A vampire must overcome his centuries-old disdain for witches to save his fated mate.
Cassie McClain is a twenty-two-year-old witch who’s tired of hiding her powers. Even though exposing her magic could put her life in danger, she takes the risk and goes to a nightclub for the supernatural. But her girls’ night out turns into a life-altering incident when she meets a powerful vampire who’s after more than her blood.
When Branan Sinclair sees Cassie, he’s instantly enamored of her. He knows, without a doubt, she’s his soul mate. But Cassie is a witch, and he’s learned the hard way that witches can’t be trusted. Damning her to darkness isn’t worth the risk, but when her life is on the line, he’ll do everything in his power to save her.

USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Pulkinen has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.
Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves red wine and chocolate, and in her free time, she likes to read, take pictures, and spend time with her family.
I gave this book 3 stars- it was only fifty some-odd pages so it's hard to really rate it. It was super cheesy and cliche but in the grand scheme of things not horrible. The author did a decent job telling the story in such a short amount of pages. It's hard to really like characters when you only given snippets of them. Overall not bad,
Carrie Pulkinen tells the tale of protagonist Cassie and vampire Branan in her short story "Bewitching the Vampire." The 71 page story moves along quickly with very few spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. This story would be classified as a 'cute' read more than anything; if not for the sex scene at the end of the tale, this reader would say it belonged in the young adult genre. The problems the characters faced were easily relatable from headlines and school horror stories - shaming and bullying, with hate groups that humans might join to go after supernaturals. Even Pulkinen's writers voice carried a younger tone that would likely appeal to teens and young adults. The main characters fell in love very quickly, without truly knowing one another; while it is acceptable for a vampire to love this quickly due to fated mates or brides, it seemed out of the scope of reality for Cassie to fall in love so quickly. The quick love-forever-after between the characters actually diminished the tale a bit, in this readers view, giving it a cliche feel to the tale.
The story takes place in New Orleans and not much description was given to setting, to truly make one feel they are there... but then again, a writer might make editing choices to keep the word count down. Characters were given just enough description to allow a reader to visualize them, although they could have been fleshed out more; however, they were described fairly well for a short story with so much action taking place. Dialogue was interesting and authentic to character. Pulkinen had vampire Branan reveal something to Cassie at book end that this reader cannot recall any other writer having done before, and it took me both by surprise and I found it quite a delightful gem to read. Much kudos to Pulkinen on Branan's tidbit!
This reader has absolutely no qualms recommending Carrie Pulkinen's story for a quick, cute read. The tale was steamy at times, although never quite sensuous in this readers view. The pacing was so fast, this reader never thought of putting the book down until it was finished. Was it my favorite read of the year? No. But interesting enough to keep the name Carrie Pulkinen firmly in mind, when perusing books to read.
Carrie is a witch living in the human world. The supes have to hide their identities, otherwise they would be killed. They sneak out and go to a club for supes only. Cassie’s mother had a premonition about Cassie while pregnant with her. At the club, she meets the mayor, Branan, a vampire. He knows she is his mate and makes a second date. When he doesn’t show up, she leaves with the humans. Only, they will do something to her that puts her life on the line. Will Branan be able to save her? What will be the price?
Cassie McClain is a young witch who is tired of hiding who she is. She goes to a club for supernaturals with her friend and meets someone who will change her life.
Branan Sinclair sees Cassie, knowing she is his soulmate but she is also a witch. He hates witches and now he must figure out if he can trust his mate or cast her away.
I give this story 8 out of 10 Stars or 5 out of 5 Stars! It was so good! I love every character, I love how well written this story is and the bond between the main characters. I always want more but I am satisfied with the way it ended.
Words that may bother some readers: A Asshole - 3 times B Bastard - 1 time Breast - 2 times C Came - 1 time Climax - 1 time D Damn - 3 times F Folds - 2 times G God (not religious) - 5 times H Hard Ass - 1 time Hell - 4 times Hellish - 1 time Hell Bent - 1 time L Length - 1 time N Nipple - 2 times Nub - 1 time O Orgasm - 1 time P Pleasure - 2 times R Rape - 2 times T Thrust - 3 times W Womb - 1 time
This was a short story about a witch and a vampire. The witch and her friend go to a supernatural club. While there she meets a vampire. Its the first vampire she has ever talked to. Her mom had a vision while she was pregnant with her and it was her death surrounded by blood. So she figures if she has nothing to do with vampires then she'll never die from them. That all changes when she meets a vamp at a club.
The title isn’t very accurate because Cassie didn’t use any magic. But it is about vampires and witches amongst others so that’s okay. Branan has a lot of power and has a thing against witches, which raises lots of questions about his past. Cassie is still pretty young and curious about what’s outside. But you know what they say about curiosity and cats?

It wasn’t a lie that this was a short story. It took me about an hour to read, but the ending was very sweet and dare I say romantic. Since it was a short story I was left wanting more. However, on the other hand that is what a good story does, it leaves the imagination open for possibilities and endings.
beautifully written story.... I loved it and I hope to read more about these two characters... Cassie can tell us what it's like to become a vampire and Lord Sinclair's vampire in particular...Thank you Carrie....
Very enjoyable story about a witch and a vampire finding their happy ever after. Would love a second story expanding on their relationship within the witch and vampire communities. Does Cassie retain her powers, does Branan acquire any of Cassie’s magic power?
Really enjoyed this story. Was a quick read for me but I loved it! Definitely worth reading if you love vampire stories. Branan is the vampire lord who despises witches. Cassies is a witch who despises vampires. Together they find a way to move passed there differences!
Branan an old vampire is thought to be an evil man but Cassie a witch sees right through his facade. They are drawn to each other the instant their eyes meet. Great twist on the middle of the book. I highly recommend this book.
Una historia paranormal diferente, con un toque romántico y sensual muy balanceado, que hace agradable su lectura. Me leí la historia en una tarde y sin parar.
Very disappointing read. I am sorry but this felt like a waste of time for me. Knew how it was going to end almost immediately I started. There was no build up at all and it was a very very short read
Very short and spicy🥵😍💖 love a good vampire love story💖 that ending though... Ughhhh... Please, please, please tell me there's more Cassie and Branan to eat up! 🥱😍💖 Highly recommend! 💖
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Cassie, a 22 yr old witch has been warned her entire life to stay away from vampires. Her mother had a vision while she was pregnant that vampires would kill Cassie. Cassie went to a hidden club for supernaturals and her ability to read auras told her what each supernatural was. She met and was instantly drawn to Branan the lord of all the supes and a vampire. He stands her up for a date and she gets poisoned by a human out to kill all supernaturals. Her life is draining away and her mother realizes that a vampire is meant to save her, not kill her. Can Branan save Cassie, since it is so difficult to change a witch and will she ever forgive him?
I don't usually like short stories because they normally lack something. Writing techniques, character development or world development. For a short story this was all really well done. Nice little plot, insta-love theme. Some steam, but it is short, so not a lot. Still overall well done!
The 71-page short story is a fast read. Cassie McClain, who is tired of hiding her powers even though exposing her magic could put her life in peril, and Branan Sinclair, a vampire who despises witches, are introduced as the main characters.
Pulkien’s voice and style have a very YA vibe; even problems such as school horror stories, shaming, bullying, and hate groups adapted to the storyline so humans might join and hunt the supernatural. And the fact that the main characters fall in insta love would likely appeal to teens and young adults. However, the clumsy, explicit content removes this book from the teens and young adult spectrum.
Perhaps it’s the shortness of the piece, or Pulkein’s younger tone, or the fast-paced action that makes it feel like the characters never really take life; they aren’t fleshed out enough for readers to truly connect with them.
Although the story is cute, Pulkien doesn’t provide many descriptive details about the surroundings, which prevents readers from being transported there to share the experience. The ending includes a sweet revelation from Branan to Cassie, which is about the only fresh twist this story had to offer and the reason why this book became a 2-star read instead of 1.
This was a short free read from Carrie. I don't usually like Vampire books but Carrie has a way where you fall in love with them, as they are misunderstood!
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
When the one you fear could be the one to save you...
Cassie shouldn't be accompanying a friend to a hole-in-the-wall nightclub filled with fellow paranormal beings, even if she is a witch. She definitely shouldn't be catching the eye of the most fearsome vampire of them all. Her mother's vision of Cassie's death at the hands of a vampire should be all the deterrent that Cassie needs to run away from the handsome vamp with captivating eyes.
Branan shouldn't be allowing himself to fall prey to a pretty little witch who knows nothing of his past and can't possibly be happy with him as her mate. He's immortal and the only way to keep Cassie by his side would be to turn her and curse her to the darkness that he lives every day. Even if it means living without his supernatural soul mate.
Just when Branan makes a decision to leave Cassie alone, for her own good, Cassie finds herself in the company of a human who means her great harm. Poison leaves Cassie on death's doorstep and her mother is frantic to save her daughter before it's too late. The only solution? It just may be the one thing that Branan was trying to avoid all along.
Cassie is a young character and even though her age isn't really discussed, her naivete is obvious in her actions of going somewhere alone with a stranger and joining a group of peers without a second thought to her safety. On the other hand, Branan is a vampire who has lived many years, though his actual age is unknown, too. He plays a more mature character to Cassie's young and lively one.
This was a short story, yet there was a lot that happened in the small span of time and we are introduced to several characters, as well. The first part of the story does feel a bit rushed, because we are thrust right into the developing romance between our couple. But by the end, I feel like the characters were better fleshed out and Branan's history is revealed.
I think there was definitely enough here in the way of plot and character depth to turn this into at least a novella, if not a full novel. We could go deeper into the paranormal war happening in the city and get to know the secondary characters a bit more. Perhaps, there will be more to come from this world.
In closing... A quick read with witches, vampires, and humans with a grudge against the supernatural. Four suns!
This was a good short read and I LOVE the book cover! It is very pretty and very eye catching.
We meet Cassie and her friend first, going into a club just for the paranormal. Here is where she meets Branan Sinclair, a sexy powerful vampire who is drawn to Cassie right away.
Until he touches her he doesn't know she is a witch though, and he has had a bad past with them. To be with her he has to overcome some serious trust issues that he has against witches.
Cassie is innocent and head over heels for Branan before they leave the club the first night, too bad her mom would kill her if she dated a vampire!
I liked Bewitching the Vampire It was a nice short read that had a little bit of everything. Romance, a dash danger, and some steamy scenes. There is a lot of plot there for a longer book in the future if Carrie Pulkinen wants to take that world she has created in that direction. I would be really interested to see that, as I'm curious about the interactions between the paranormal and the humans in this world.
Overall, I'd recommend Bewitching the Vampire to anyone looking for a good, short, paranormal romance read.
