She promised him for better and for worse.
Torga’s been keeping a secret from his wife. While Reina, an accomplished monster hunter, was overjoyed to be reunited with the man she loves, what would happen if she found out that he was actually one of the largest monsters in history?

Torga’s plans to reveal himself are interrupted when a conspiracy of other gods sends him and his wife to Helheim, a frozen waste where their skills and magic are stripped away. He’ll have to recover his powers, and possibly make a deal with some of Helheim’s less savory residents to escape, but will Reina accept his help once she realizes who he really is? He’s going to have to convince her, because her mortal body is dying, and if it does, she’ll be trapped in Helheim forever.

Really enjoyed the continuation in the series. Full of adventure and excitement. Not much in the way of originality but nothing to complain about. Solid 4.5 stars.

A large portion of this book had zero actual progression as it was basically a power down episode. It wouldn't be so bad if he had any actual dialogue with his wife but it turns out that part didn't actually matter and most of what they talked about was negated due to a plot point. Basically only like the last few chapters actually contributed to the overall story.

Good book

Good book but not much happened plot wise it is the shortest book in the series and with the cliffhanger it feels very underwhelming still worth a read dont expect huge plot progression.

A Slithering Descent - "A Snake's Rise" (A Snake's Life, #3) by Kenneth Arant

Rating: ⭐ (1/5)

In Sum: "A Snake's Rise" by Kenneth Arant plunges to new depths of monotony and uninspired storytelling. This third installment offers little more than a prolonged hiss of disappointment, as the series continues its downward spiral into mediocrity.

Brief Lamentations:

The narrative meanders aimlessly, revealing a startling lack of progression and a dearth of compelling events.
Any semblance of character growth evaporates, leaving the protagonist more stagnant than ever, devoid of the promised rise.
The recycling of tired themes and lackluster conflicts further contributes to the narrative fatigue, leaving readers with a sense of déjà vu.
The fantasy realm, initially brimming with potential, remains a barren landscape, failing to evolve or captivate the imagination.
Instead of addressing the issues that plagued the previous books, "A Snake's Rise" inexplicably compounds them, creating a cacophony of narrative missteps.

Final Hiss: "A Snake's Rise" epitomizes the nadir of the series, a disheartening continuation of lackluster storytelling that will likely leave readers questioning why they embarked on this literary journey in the first place.

A wrong direction.

I have really liked the character Torga with his attitude and disregard for any authority. But this book takes the plot into a ridiculous direction. The "all knowing" beings that are clueless and the overly complex story. Taking the main character and chaining him up with his wife that ruins the feel of his whole character. This one is a misstep in what could be a great series.

Alert

First, my review, then it’s time for a new copypasta:

“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

I am not a bot even though my reviews are identical. Of course, that is what a bot would say trying to pass itself off as human. But I would argue that trying to pass as human is enough to at least qualify as a reviewer.

I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.

Cheers

This book which is jam-packed with action is a bit too fantastical for me, it is too exaggerated in it's action though I guess when the enormous devourer of worlds and the mighty Gods do battle nothing less can be expected. Torga would do anything to keep Raina his reincarnated hero wife safe, even though she did not feel she needed protecting. So, when the Gods decided to kidnap her to take in front of the judges to question her about Torga and he heard about this he went berserk! However, since he too had been taken into the underworld and stripped of all his powers there was little he could do to save her. In fact it took him a while to realise that the Reina who was traveling with him in the underworld and showing her hatred for him and who he had become was an imposter and that his real wife and love of his life was in danger some place else. When the God's enter into the battle they are vengeful and cruel to the extreme and show little care for mortals. This book ends on quite a surprising cliff hanger as Torga's life is once again in the balance. For readers who love fast paced and continuous action, battles between mortals, Gods and other fantastical creatures, this is a series you will definitely enjoy!

A bit of a downer story

First of all let’s get a good part out of the way “the writing was excellent”. Unfortunately the story was a bit of a let down. Without give any of the story away the main character was pretty much on someone puppet strings throughout the whole story. And some of the most powerful as beings in this universe turned out to be as easily tricked as a five year old child. Plus in this story the main character never advance at all. In fact he spent most of the story trying to get back his abilities he loss at the beginning of the story. I can’t think of a single part of the story where something positive was added to the characters abilities. In fact the very end of the story felt like it was just something added to this book just so that the story did not end on a totally negative note.

Another fun book

I’d give this one a 4.5. This was a great continuation on the whacky life and adventures Torga. My only problem with this instalment was that Torga was basically nerfed for a majority of the book for plot reasons. That really took away some of the entertainment value; apart from that, this was a fun book as I’ve come to expect from the author. Can’t wait for the next book.

3 stars

I’m only giving this 4 stars because I really liked the first two books. This one really fell flat for me. The power levels seemed to be all over the place. The whole wife thing has really lost me. I liked it better when she was a goal, now she’s an emotional anchor sinking the plot. I’ll read the next one with high hopes, let’s hope he goes back to the style of books 1 & 2.

A few issues but good story.

Ding you got 1 skill back, but lets show every single stat again for no reason. This was quite annoying while reading and very unnecessary, a few full re-iterations of the stats is nice but really dont need it spammed /// was sad when i realized book was over at 90% through, 1/10th of the book being filled with another book promo and a very large list of other books to read rather than just dropping author name and "viridian gate series"

Solid

This series continues to impressed. I would rate this book a 4.5, but I’d rather round up than down. Fun unexpected plot twists. Plenty of action. A good balance of seriousness and humor. My only real complaint is that it’s very unclear how the Asgardians have their city sacked twice. In both this book and the previous book, an army of ice zombies materializes out of nowhere. This really doesn’t make since and seems like a plot hole.

Nice succession of the previous book. It is exciting to read and has some pretty original plot twists.
However it felt like the plot was rather short compared to the previous books. The fighting-scenes were a bit too lengthy for my taste while the fights themselves were mostly fist-fight brawls instead of using Torgas skills and traits...
Still it was very nice to read and I look forward to the next book.^^

I have a really hard time putting down a series once I start it because it leaves an itch in my brain if there is no conclusion. I CAN NOT finish A Snake’s Life. It makes me so angry that the author keeps dropping plot points and retconning their own writing, character personalities are in constant flux, every female is written then same (irrational, quick to anger, abusive, and easily aroused). I just can’t anymore.

Short but good

We want more! And it can have more in it too! I’m interested in how the series will play out, though there is little room left for character growth as far as I can see. The plot thickens with an extra armload of cornstarch, and whatever that blob uses to cook pickles and burgers...

Nice follow up

The book is nicely written and I like the style of the author. However, it felt like a lot of it was "fillers" with little story progression. It leaves the story in a sort of cliffhanger that I usually don't like. Cliffhangers are ok in TV series where you need to wait 1 more week. But in books having to wait months or years, a cliffhanger is not OK.

Some sneaky stuff!

Plots within plots. Great read. Not much growth but may storylines coming together. I recommend you reread the series so you will catch all the plots that come together here.

Good read for isekai fans

Overall the characters are interesting and the story has good continuity. There are some slow points and some rough transitions, but I liked it overall and I’ll be waiting to read the next book.

The MCs progression/evolution completely stagnated in this book. While I loved how OP the MC is, it felt like this should have just been bundled in with the previous book due to how short it was as well as the lack of progression.

This entry has Avery different feel from other books in the series. There isn’t any advancement. It is very plot driven which is very refreshing. The story is good and the other characters are further developed.

Entertaining

Although some parts of the story were a bit slow, overall, I do find that the entire story was entertaining as a whole. If you enjoyed the first two books, I do think that you will enjoy this one.

Really enjoyed the first two books. This book was okay, worth the read for fans of the first two. Did not personally enjoy where the story ended up by the climax.

Excellent

Excellent story, well written characters, and challenging twists.

I like how Torga's godhood and powers don't make him OP in the book.
