Grad student Savannah Evans is thrilled to be accepted as a resident to a prestigious art colony. Where else would she be able to focus on her craft of writing poetry in a setting like that of the medieval-styled castle? The remote New England island is a respite from her hectic city life. When she meets her benefactor, a mysterious French sculptor, her expectations for carefree days writing near the ocean are distracted by unprofessional fantasies about her sponsor.

Antoine Chevalier built Les Beaux Arts on DeRoche Island to bring purpose back to an existence that has lost meaning. He’s wandered the earth for decades and finds solace in returning to art. When Savannah applies for a residency, something about her words touches him. After her arrival, a physical attraction grows between them, which he struggles against. She deserves more than someone of his kind.

Antoine proposes they become lovers during her stay. But the situation turns complicated when Savannah discovers his secret. She had suspicions about his identity, but finds the truth overwhelming. Consumed by her desire for Antoine and faced with a tough decision, she is blind to the danger that has arrived at DeRoche Island.

A slow firm hand
This author loves to toy with my emotions. The slow build up to a relationship, the heated scenes, the sensuality, the hint of deeper feelings, the touch of danger, all swirl around my mind from the first moment and continue to build until the HEA, resulting in a reading experience that I can’t wait to feel again. The author created these fantastic characters, I love their interactions and the quick intensity of their relationship, and then she filled the pages with such detailed descriptions that I almost felt as if I were there. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to seeing what happens next with our elusive artists.

This was a fun, fast read! The passion is smoldering, and the pace lightning fast! I would have liked to get to know Savannah and Antoine a little better, but there is only so much you can do in such a short amount of words, so we got a glimpse into their personalities with little as to their daily thoughts and deep desires. This is definitely not your grannies' sweet romance, so be prepared for some teasing, pleasing and graphic interactions :) Overall this was a great first book in a series that can technically be read as standalones, though you certainly would want to read them chronologically to avoid any spoilers. 4 stars of sexy awesomeness

This was short & not so steamy. Like most vampire stories, there’s the dark & mysterious man, the castle in a creepy isolated setting, and the innocent young woman. While I found the storyline interesting, I did find it to be lacking much depth, but there’s only so much you can fit into a limited amount of pages. It does feel like you are starting halfway through the story - I would have liked to see them meet for the first time. I also would have like to see something from Antoine’s perspective, instead of Savannah describing the world around her.

I love this author. I’ve been reading her for years. At the Chateau, there are many different artists. Savannah is a poet and she has drawn the attention and interest of the owner, who is a sculptor, Antoine. It is an intense read. Beautifully written and fast paced, Antoine is a rare thing, a gargoyle who had been turned vampire. His love of Savannah makes him even more awesome. I couldn’t put the book down.

A well-balanced blend of paranormal, eroticism, and spine-tingling thrills!

Since she had arrived for her stay at the artists’ colony called Les Beaux Arts at the Chateau DeRoche, she’d noticed something different about the owner, Antoine Chevalier. And not just the way his eyes bore into hers, shooting shivers through her and making it difficult to breathe. His quiet nature, his preference for seclusion for days at a time, and his still, composed temperament belied an intensity within. Noir eyes that rarely blinked spoke of haunted depth and smoldering passion.

Lisa Carlisle’s Dark Velvet is a darkly sensual vampire story with lots of depth and spice to the story. The story is action-packed with smoldering sex scenes. It will grab the reader’s attention from the start and never let go. This is the story of French sculptor Antoine Chevalier, the vampire owner of Les Beaux Arts, and Savannah Evans, a graduate student of poetry. This particular installment was my personal favorite in the series with sizzling off-the-chart chemistry.

While Dark Velvet is the first book in Lisa’s Chateau Seductions series, I would highly recommend that readers first pick up Darkness Rising, the prequel novella to this series. Darkness Rising is told from Antoine’s point of view and focuses on Antoine’s story prior to Dark Velvet. In addition, Savannah is first introduced in Darkness Rising. I was already vested in Antoine’s character and in Lisa’s entire Chateau Seductions world by reading Darkness Rising first. Each of the installments in this series are fast-paced and the characterizations build as the story progresses. If you do not read Darkness Rising first, you may feel that Antoine’s and Savannah’s character development is lacking in Dark Velvet. I actually cannot imagine reading the series without reading DARKNESS RISING first. So do yourself a huge favor and start with the prequel… and then continue reading the series in order! You won’t be sorry!

The characters of Antoine and Savannah truly shined. Antoine is actually a cross between two species. He was born a gargoyle but was turned into a vampire against his will while studying sculpture under Rodin in France. His vampire side thirsts for human blood; while his gargoyle side is driven to protect humans. He exudes mystery and sensuality. While his purpose in the castle is to encourage the artists who reside there, his attraction to Savannah is much more than that. He cannot stop thinking about her or stay away from her. I want my own Antoine!

Savannah is taking a break from her graduate studies to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the famously renowned Les Beaux Arts colony. She loves the castle, the beautiful DeRoche Island and the other artists in attendance. Her poetic creativity is thriving in this setting. However, she wasn’t counting on her strong attraction to Antoine, the castle-owner and her benefactor. When she looks at him, all she can think about is how it would feel to be in his arms. Thankfully, the attraction between them is not one-sided.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Dark Velvet:

“You wanted to see me?” she asked after shutting the door. She remained where she was, not daring to move any closer.
He turned his gaze from the fire crackling over the logs to face her. Those dark eyes scanned her from head to foot and when they reached her once again, they gleamed with unmistakable hunger.
“Take off your clothes,” he said calmly.
---
“Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Art is full of agony and beauty. The pen itself a sword of pleasure and pain, isn’t it, my poet?”
---
“I bought new lingerie today I wanted to show you, but I didn’t get a chance with all that happened.”
“You’ll have to return tomorrow night then…. Maybe we’ll order an entire catalog.” His smile and the glint of mischievousness in his eyes reflected lascivious thoughts. “You can model all the outfits you’d like for me.”

There was absolutely no way I could stop reading Dark Velvet once I started. This is not a sweet romance. If you are looking for a clean romance, you will want to look elsewhere. But, if you enjoy well-written, well-plotted steamy reads, you’ve most definitely come to the right place. I alternately swooned, gasped and got goose bumps. Readers who enjoy a well-balanced blend of paranormal, eroticism, and spine-tingling thrills will be well-rewarded. I inhaled this whole series in days. This is actually a book that I would not hesitate to read again. It’s that good.

Suggested Reading Order:
The Chateau Seductions series
Darkness Rising (Book # 0.5)
Dark Velvet (Book #1)
Dark Muse (Book #2)
Dark Stranger (Book #3)
Dark Pursuit (Book # 4) – a holiday romance!

Savannah Evans is taking time off from her graduate classes to attend a prestigious art colony, Les Beaux Arts. This is a once in a lifetime chance for the poet. The quiet island, the castle, and other artists are a wonderful influence on her work. Another influence she wasn’t counting on was the castle owner Antoine Chevalier. Savannah quickly finds herself hopelessly attracted to the mysterious gentleman, and the attraction is far from one sided.

Savannah seems to me to be someone who lives in her world of the arts. She is a poet, but appreciative of the arts in all forms. She doesn’t seem like one with a terrible lack of confidence, but Antoine brings forth boldness in her. Her relationship with Antoine is also sort of a journey of self-discovery. She is also intuitive; she is able to sense there is more to Antoine that meets the eye. Antoine is mysterious, sexy, and more than an ordinary man. Although he is there to encourage the artists in his castle there is a sense that he is a secretive man, but he sees something in Savannah he can’t stay away from.

Carlisle gives readers a blend of the paranormal and the erotic. This novella was a very enjoyable read for me. The setting on DeRoche Island was beautiful, and felt like it was from another time. The chemistry between Savannah and Antoine is sure to draw the reader in as well.

Dark Velvet is the first novella in the Chateau Seduction series. I am very excited to read Carlisle’s next installment!

In Dark Velvet, You meet Savannah Evans, a grad student, who applied to prestigious art colony. She is a sweet girl who as the book progresses explores her sexuality with Antoine, the owner of the castle and art colony. Antoine is a master sculptor, who has a dark secret he wants to keep from Savannah. After weeks of secret looks, they succumb to their mutual desire for each other. Antoine wants Savannah to become his lover during her time at the colony, before she can give him her answer she is attacked. Secrets are exposed and a decision are made by both of them on where their relationship will go.

Dark Velvet has a dark eroticism that makes you want to be Savannah. It is a book that is a good, quick and darkly thrilling read. This book pulled me into it very quickly, I wasn't able to put it down until I read the very last page.

Great Series!
This is a great new series by Lisa Carlisle. Savannah is thrilled when she is accepted as a resident to the prestigious art colony. While there she will be able to just focus on her poetry. Every time she sees the sexy owner of the colony and famous artist Antoine, she can’t think of nothing else but how it would feel to be in his arms. The attraction between them grows until he makes a move. He is dark, and has a secret that he is keeping from her. This book was very easy to read in one sitting, I did not want to put it down until the end. If you are looking for a great paranormal romance, with some suspense then you need to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Looking for a sexy vampire novel? If so, then this is definitely a must buy! Why? First off, it's set in a medieval castle on an island off the coast of New England. The author's description was so detailed that once I finished, I did a Google search of castles that I'd like to visit. Second thru ninety-five (The number of pages the book has!): The insanely hot chemistry between the female protagonist Savannah & vampire Antoine. Their intensity starts off right away and you're not a chapter in before it takes off like a rocket. Slight S&M with love involved? Sounds perfect! My only complaint was the length, because I definitely want to find out more about the world the author created.

Fanfiction-esque

This read a little too much like fanfiction for me. No intro or build up to the background of the characters before they’re already into each other. Really stiff and formal wording. Seemed like a missed opportunity to not show the slow burn of the first couple weeks she was there. The sex scenes (which this seems to be focused around) we’re pretty clinical and cold. Nothing very new there. Stopped reading at 33%.

Short sweet and sexy read. I appreciated that the story had depth although it had a limited page count. I would have enjoyed seeing what happened next for Antoine and Savannah -- especially with her humanity :).

This book drawls you in from page one. Its dark sexy. Antione has a secret. I would have loved for it to be longer. I felt there was just so much more to tell. If you are looking for a short dark sexy read, this is the book for you.

Can Savannah Walk Away From The Sexy Sculptor?

I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Vampire paranormal romance.
Savannah is a grad student who is attending the island's workshop retreat for a term to work on her poetry. There she meets the owner of island Antione, a very gifted sculptor.
They are aware of each other from the start & the tension builds.
You are taken on an erotic, steamy journey as their relationship develops.
After learning Antoine secret, Savannah has to decide if she is willing to go forward.
Will her distracted thoughts prove to be deadly?
Even though this is the first book I have read by this author it won't be the last.

I always enjoy this author's work, I love paranormal romance especially gargoyles and vampires. So when I read the blurb for this book I knew I just had to read it. It did not disappoint, I enjoyed is immensely and read it in one sitting. Although if I'm being picky I would have like to have heard more of Antoine's thoughts instead of only Savannah's.

Savannah's attending the Les Beaux Arts on DeRoche Island which she's excited about as it's a retreat for artists of every genre. It's there that she meets Antoine, the owner, to whom she's immediately drawn. But Antoine's hiding a secret, a secret that will change her life forever, will she be OK with that and will there be a happy ending? You'll have to read it to find out.

The book explores the relationship between a school teacher/poet and the castles owner a vampire/gargoyle struggling to accept what is happening. It was a sweet fast moving love story. I enjoyed the castle setting and that the characters are artists. The story is mainly from Savannah's point of view, but Antoine is explored, offering insight into the characters. Savannah's reaction to finding out he was a vampire, made you want to stop her. Overall, it was truly interesting story and left me wanting to see wanting is in store for them.

I loved the beginning to what is truly a great series. its short, its hot and it has action that keeps you interested in Savannah & Antoine's story of true love.

Savannah was thrilled to be accepted to the Art Colonies program, what she never imagined was to0 be so attracted to the very dark, but talented sculptor and creator of the colony. The characters are really complete and the background they both carry gives you a complete image of who they are.

The chemistry between these two is very real and deep and nothing will keep them apart!

I love the teasing and unavoidable coming together between Antoine and Savanah...

Brava Ms. Carlisle a sure hit!

Sensuous and atmospheric read.

I wasn't sure going in to this book, as I had not loved the prequel 'Darkness Rising' which provides the background story to how Antoine came to be at the Chateau, however I really enjoyed this short read told from Savannah's perspective. From the first page I was drawn in to the seductive and atmospheric telling of their story. Despite the shortness of the book, Lisa deliciously drew out the anticipation of Savannah and Antoine's connection, interspersed with darkness and danger. I look forward to learning more of their future in the subsequent stories in this series.

Savannah and Antoine continue their banter in this book. Savannah wants him but he is holding back. He wants to open up to her but he fears that she won’t understand. When he finally gives in, Savannah realizes her true feelings. Will she run or will she stay? Excellent writing. This series keeps getting better and better.

Savannah a school teacher/poet and Antoine is the castle's owner (a vampire/gargoyle).

This was an interesting change in the paranormal genre with the mixed breeds. The author does share some of the characters back story to help us understand. I will be reading more books in the Chateau Seductions series.

Savannah is very taken with Antoine and he with her, he makes it clear that he is interested in spending time with her alone. She wasn't sure when she sees something on his face that terrified her until he makes her realize she must have been seeing things until she bites her lip and draws blood. Drama, suspense, romance, and some violence. A good storyline and characters are very interesting. I received a copy via BookFunnel without obligation. I volunteered an honest review.

Hot!

Smoking hot vampire/gargoyle vs school teacher and poet in a wicked romance. A castle, villain, stormy night and oooh you'll just have to read it.
I left off a point in this rating only because I hate errors....more than two is a point in my world.
Aside from this fussy readers assessment..Check out this sweet, short read.
