Brian Bear loves to play basketball. He takes his basketball with him wherever he goes. When Brian’s mom tells him bears sleep all winter, Brian becomes sad. How can he sleep all winter? Will he choose staying awake and playing basketball or being with his mom and dad?
A charming story about Brian the Bear and his desire not to hibernate when he could be playing Basketball instead. My daughter loved the story and super cute illustrations. She also agreed it would be much more fun to play basketball then to sleep all winter.
"First Winter" is a cute, short story about a little bear who would rather stay up and play basketball instead of hibernating through the winter. He tries to prepare himself for hibernation after learning what it is, but he tells his parents that he can't because he wants to play basketball. After his parents go to sleep for the winter, the little bear goes out to play basketball. He is lonely and goes in for a snack. He is lonely while eating alone without his parents. He decided to lay down next to his mom for a rest in hopes he wouldn't be so lonely. He tries to stay awake, but he falls asleep. This is a cute story for kids. It can be educational for learning about hibernation. It can also help kids who have a hard time falling asleep because they would rather play.
What a perfect book for this upcoming fall! It is crucial to not rob children of the wonders and lessons that writing has. A book, such as this, allows your child to be transported through each page. In regards to illustrations, the pages are luminous and caught my eye immediately. The flow of the story was well written, as well. This is a great, engaging book that parents will enjoy reading to their kids! “First Winter” has my stamp of approval.
Adorable little story about a basketball-obsessed little bear who can't believe his ears when his parents tell him he has to sleep all winter long. He doesn't want to hibernate! Will he end up going to sleep? Or will he play basketball on his own all winter long while all the other bears are hibernating? Read for yourself :)
Great topic Bears hibernating and very creative that the bear loved basketball
I really liked this book. A good read for kids to learn about bears and how they have to go through hibernation. I thought the story was funny and creative, the writer had the bear loving to play basketball I know most little boys can identify with that. Very good read for kids
Cute story with sweet illustrations. Needs minor editing, but no big deal. Reading it to a small child might help in getting him (or her) to go to sleep at bedtime or nap time!
A cute story to teach children what hibernation means. The bear in the story wants to play all day long and when it’s time to hibernate thinks that he will skip this time around. Read to see what happens to the best. Loved the illustrations.
Heartwarming Tale! This is a heartwarming and sweet story about a young bear Brian who loves to play basketball. When he learnt about hibernation, that he would have to sleep all winter along, he got very sad that he wont be able to play basketball. The book beautifully captures the journey of Brain through his first winter and how he understood that hibernation after all is not difficult. Easy to follow. Nice illustrations. Recommended for children aged 3-8.
This book talks about a little bear being resistant to hibernating and how he discovered that it’s not so bad. I’m sure every kid could relate in the sense that they’d rather play than go to sleep. Very good!
Basketball or hibernation? Read this book to your kids to find out!
Brian thinks he has a choice of whether to hibernate. He plans on playing basketball all winter long - he might not have thought that through. This short book is a simple introduction to hibernation, but it also is a sweet story of a little bear who really, really, really wants to play basketball. His parents end up deciding not to argue with him about it and they just say they’re going to hibernate. Brian needs to decide between something he really wants or something that he probably needs. The simple but playful illustrations are a good match for the story.
This is a precious story about a bear cub who loves basketball and does not want to hibernate with his parents because he will miss out on playing. He ends up missing his parents, and joins them with his ball to sleep after all. My kids and I enjoyed this short, sweet story. (We definitely want to try honey casserole now.)
Sweet story about a young bear cub who loves to play basketball. Good bedtime story. May be helpful for parents teaching their children about patience. Young readers can also learn about bears, some of the foods they eat, and hibernation. Nice family story with soft, pleasing illustrations.
This is a cute story about a bear who loved playing basketball, but the little bear was left with a predicament. He must choose between hibernation with his family or continue to play basketball in the winter. This is a fun book with great illustrations.
Very cute story about bears in hibernation. The young bear loves playing basketball so he was not looking forward to hibernating. He tried to talk his parents out of it. In the end he fell asleep I woke up in the spring ready to play basketball again
Brian is a young bear who didn't understand the reason why bears hibernate. He would have to give up the sport he loves to do WHAT? SLEEP! Brian didn't want to sleep all winter long... he wanted to have fun. Follow Brian to see how he learns about hibernation. I recommend this book!
Brian loves basketball so much that he doesn’t have time for hibernation. But without even realizing it he falls asleep all winter and realizes hibernation is not so bad. Great family story to encourage kids!
A sweet story about a little bear who doesn’t want to hibernate
There’s a lot to like about this story. A young bear would rather play basketball than hibernate. His wise parents don’t try to force him - instead they go off to hibernate and let him go play basketball (and learn some lessons on his own). He becomes a little lonely, so decides to lay with them just for a little while. Before the cub knows it, he’s waking up from a long winter’s nap!
