The Hope Legacy Are there some wounds so deep that even love can't heal them?
Kade Jones has been in prison for the better part of five years. Count the years he was forced into his father's gang, and he can’t remember what freedom feels like. Abigail Hunter was raised to be a proper southern socialite, but the years she's spent in Pine Creek hiding from a forced marriage have forever changed her When Kade is released early and comes to Pine Creek to apprentice under the town blacksmith, the two feel an immediate connection. Will Kade and Abigail be able to emerge from their broken pasts, or will dangerous threats from all sides tear them apart?
This book grabbed me in as soon as I began reading the prologue. The prologue on page 8 was a chilling foreshadowing, “Momma’s death would mean more than just heartbreak for them.” At this point, I didn’t know the direction the book was headed, but I was soon to find out.
Starting with chapter one, we find Karissa and Beth established in Pine Creek, Texas. The how of the sisters ensconcing in Pine Creek is revealed over time, but the reader immediately sees the sisters are loved and cared for by Reverend Thomas Foster and his wife Charlotte, and in fact the whole town of Pine Creek. We also see that the strong faith of the mother shown in the prologue has bloomed in the girls. Karissa reflects on God’s grace to the sisters, “Not a day goes by that I don’t wonder at how the Lord used something as silly as a broken wagon wheel to bring us home.” Right after her thankful reflection, she finds the Sheriff nailing up a Wanted poster and on viewing the picture, realizes it is of Marcus Jones and his gang (her father). Karissa then experiences a flashback that gives the reader some new family details; she also falls into a panic attack. Her father and his gang are a real piece of work and both girls cling to their faith in response to the threat the gang is to their safety.
The kidnapping of Karissa was a little confusing, but it illuminated God’s protection of Karissa and how the cover of the thunderstorm was providential. The whole courtroom scene was difficult to keep all the players names straight, but certainly added some spice to the proceedings. Kade’s testimony in the courtroom was compelling and added more layers to the despicable acts of the Jones gang.
The strong points of this story were: Characters (both lead and secondary), the town of Pine Creek wraps around your heart, and the Faith exhibited by key characters that showed faith was integrative and not just a pious piece of clothing worn on Sundays. As this book was a three-book series, it focused on the three siblings and their growth, the siblings were Karissa, Beth, and Kade Jones and Abigail Hunter whom Karissa and Matthew rescued on their delayed honeymoon trip in the Carolinas. The major negative was the intense, graphic nature of the father and his gang, which would not be appropriate for younger readers.
This was an enjoyable, light read with very genuine faith and practice. Rated 4.6 rounded to 5.0.
I loved these books! They tell a beautiful story of the great grace of our God. The characters were true to life with both good and bad traits. They all had been through trials that had left scars and caused them pain, just like in real life. Each handled it in their own way. God met each of them where and when they needed it and were ready. We get to see how the Lord makes them each a new creation and heals their hearts. I couldn't wait to read more each day, and didn't want to end. I definitely recommend this to everyone!
These books are inspiring and enlightening as they examine the problems of people and the way evil can cause our hearts to suffer ! I am proud to recommend these stories as a testament to the love and protection of our Heavenly Father ! Trust Him and follow His lead always !
This is no lightweight book. The characters are real and layered. They live their Christian witness throughout and current and new believers move from believing they are not enough or too flawed to knowing they are in Christ. This is a great r look at shame and freedom from shame as well as fear.
This was one of the best historical fiction and romance series I have read. If you are a person who feels you can never be forgiven for past mistakes, please read this series. While the series is fiction, the spiritual part of the stories are not. This is the first time I have read Melody Ford but I will certainly seem out her other books.
The stories are not bad, but the author needs to do a little research. The time period in the books is not long after The War Between The States, but terms like “Ms.,” “care package,” “double-Dutch,” etc. are definitely not from that time. I do appreciate the author always capitalizing references to God.
This collection is a lovely, gentle, low stress series set in Texas and following the lives of several siblings who work to overcome their traumatic pasts. The supporting characters are likable and redemption themes are woven throughout. These are easy reads, predictable but in a comforting way. These remind me of many of Jeanette Oke's novels.
I really enjoyed the series. It was an action-packed story of the Jones siblings and how they found love and happiness in a small town.
Although they brought danger to the town, the townspeople never turned their backs on them.
This was quite blatantly a Christian story. Not only are there church sermons and prayers, but there are many conversations about God, grace, and forgiveness.
The characters in this book are truly amazing people. You will read about father and son’s who is dangerous who don’t care who they hurt. The sisters are running for their lives and hiding out in a little town. The author will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
All three of these books were great. The way the characters relied on God in spite of their hard life shows how God helped them survive. All the characters were strong and likeable. Highly recommended reading.
These are the stories of the younger siblings from the Jones family. Their father and older brothers formed the infamous outlaw gang. They struggled to free themselves from their father's hold and make good lives for themselves and all around them.
These well written stories tell about a family who had almost unbelievable hardships and hurts to overcome. Some of the situations depicted are hard to read and harder to imagine, but Ms. Ford did an excellent job making it seem real.
I love the entire series. I loved how the writer would interject biblical principles along with different Bible verses throughout the series. Good clean and enjoyable reading from beginning to end. I look forward to more from the author. Thank you.
Beautiful stories of brave girls who had a lot of problems in their lives finding brave you men to settle down with .There is a lot of suspense but it is very heartwarming too.A great read. I recommend these books to other readers.
I loved reading all of these books. Such great insights into human strengths and frailties. I love how scripture was innertwined in the lives and relationships as the characters
This was a fantastic Historical Christian fiction series! God's amazing grace and mercy are everlasting like He is! Highly recommended for older youth and above.
I liked how the three books connected to one another seamlessly. The stories give you hope and the redemption available to everyone. Set in a small town with small town values that challenge the people with change over the years. Great wholesome romance, also.
This boxset was amazing. I must be honest in that I only bought it because it was free, but I'm so glad I did. This author is excellent. It's the first time I have read her books but now I'm hooked. I'm definitely a fan now and will be buying her other books. She is really deserving of 5 stars 🌟
It was once said to never trust anyone by the name of Jones or Smith. The three ladies in question all changed their last names, for the better. The life and times of a small Texas town.
This three set series is a fun action Western. The downside is that it is predictable, and the author repeats herself telling the same facts over again. If you’re looking for a quick read, this would be a good fit.
I would recommend these books to to young adults and teens. It so ground the the Bible and can give God's teaching on how to handle situations that arrives in life.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. It shows God's grace and help to those who call on Him, without false promises of no pain or struggles. I'd recommend this book series to anyone who likes a good, clean love story.
I enjoyed all three of these stories. The characters were strong and the story had just the right amount of God's words in them. And of course I loved the happy endings.
