“There are a lot of things in this world we can’t see…But they’re real. Even more real than what we can see.”

“Evil is out there. We both know it. We’ve seen it. Our minds, our imaginations, can sometimes create an opening for something dark.”

“Only Jesus Christ can create a brand-new human being.”

Another entertaining read from Nancy Mehl. If you like edge of your seat Christian suspense fiction with a little romance, then this is the book for you. It is book 2 for behavioral analyst Alex Donovan, so definitely read book 1 as well as the Kaely Quinn series. Speaking of Kaely Quinn, what makes this book special is that Kaely joins the BAU team with Alex and Logan as they hunt a psychopath serial killer who is targeting behavioral analysts and threatening their family members and forcing suicide on the analyst. Dark stuff for Christian fiction at first glance but Mehl is quite adept at this and never is gruesome in her details.

While this is a very good book, here are my complaints. One, for some reason I always figure out the villain in a Nancy Mehl book! I did it with all of the Kaely Quinn books and now both books of the Alex Donovan series. I will say that I still usually enjoy her books even though I guess the villain. And then two, sometimes the dialogue doesn’t always ring genuine.

Also there is a bad typo in my ARC on the last page where it says Kaely instead of Alex! Hopefully that will get fixed before final print!!

But complaints aside, I still feel like this is a 4 star book and worth reading if you enjoy Christian suspense.

Dead Fall - Nancy Mehl - 4.5 Stars rounding up to 5 (Book 2 in The Quantico Files Series)

OK YA'LL Nancy Mehl is a FAVORITE author for me for sure. After reading Cold Pursuit, Night Fall and now this -- SHE ALWAYS GOT ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT! Top tier Christian Suspense author.

This book took me through it! We follow Alex and Logan again through their journey together as FBI Behavior Analysis Unit workers but this time the BAU co-found John Davis is found dead in his hotel room - with NO evidence of anyone having entered the room. Turns out, there's a serial killer on the loose who is causing people to commit suicide. How can you find the killer when he never touches his victims? The killer is targeting Alex's unit and things get crazy after this.

We get to see Kaely Quinn from the Kaely Quinn Profiler series, which I haven't read yet but don't feel like I missed anything by not reading it. BUT now I want to read it!

I had no idea who the killer was (as usual LOL) so I was so surprised and on edge. Love the faith that Nancy weaves in with the characters and seeing Alex lean into her newfound faith and how the Lord shows up in every circumstance for them.

4.5/5 - so good! Excited to read book 3 next year!
Trigger warning for suicide mentioned and some unsettling killer moments.

HA! I called it. WOOOHOOO!!!

Okay, but really:

Nancy Mehl writes supremely tight, action-packed suspense--even with behavioral analysts! It should be a lot of sitting around and jabbering, but even that has action and tension applied. Brilliant. Excellent characterization, stunning psychological work with the creep, and a faith element that really kicks you in the gut and says, "Are you listening???"

Dead Fall will keep you on the edge of your sanity as you try to figure out who must be behind it all can possibly be. And that, my friends, is genius.

Kaely Quinn is back in the Behavioral Analysis Unit at Quantico working with supervisory special agents Alex Donovan, Logan Hart and Monty Wong. The case was about a man who committed suicide while video-viewing an unknown man threatening to kill his wife if he didn’t kill himself in the next 30 seconds.

The team's job was to profile the man who made that call so detectives would have a handle on who they might be looking for. Tirelessly they worked on this while the caller did the same to others, one after the other in the matter of just a few day…all connected to this team.

This was (really) complicated, suspenseful, completely engaging and hard to put down. The team did a lot more detective work then just profiling. They wanted this guy caught because it got way too personal for each one of the analysts.

Good book with mild Christian undertones.

The narrator was very good as well…no complaints at all.

Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl is one of the best mysteries I have read all year. She is a master at suspense and keeping you guessing.

This is the second book in the series and I was thrilled that Kaely has a role in this story. Kaely is the lead in the previous trilogy that could have been a lifelong series. The characters were THAT good.

In Dead Fall we continue the story with Logan and Alex (Alexandra) who are behavioral analysts for the FBI. They are facing their most crafty villain yet.

I dont want to spoil any of the plot twists and stories for you. But trust me that this is a wild ride.

What would you do in the situations the villain puts you in? Is it considered murder?

There are several secondary characters that add depth to the story. And there are possibilities as to who the villain could be. She will have you guessing until the end.

She is at the top of her game with Dead Fall.

Violence - several deaths but not disturbing imagery.

Good & solid book, loved the Christianity aspect. But I felt like all the characters were a tiny bit watered down. I couldn’t fully connect to any of them, they all kinda felt the same yk. But overall a good book!!

Really this is as 3.5 star read. I really like Nancy Mehl books but with her book I find them a little long in the middle and I tend to drift off. This book the same, but I have to say that the ending of her books are amazing, this one included. Another problem is I always figure out who done it, but alas I did not figure it out on this book. That makes it even better. Who is killing agents? With help from the famous Kaely Quinn the detectives are on the search on who is killing there own. Can they find out who is responsible before more killing occur? Again it does drag on but so worth read and I can't wait to book 3 in this series. Highly recommend for you especially if you love a great who done it!!

I loved Criminal Minds, and this serial killer is right up the alley of that series.

I enjoyed catching up with Alex and the rest of the BAU and loved that Kaely from the Kaely Quinn series played an important part in this story next to Alex.

But more than figuring out who the twisted serial killer is who is causing BAU agents to be killed in unique ways, it was also a story of finding out who you are and not to compare yourself to others and trying to fit the world’s idea and mold of who you should be.

Genre: Adult, Christian fiction, romance, mystery, suspense
My Rating: 2.5 stars
Language: Clean
Age range: 16+
Content: Murder - that's basically the content. It does give small descriptions of how people died, but it wasn't gory enough to make my stomach squirm.
Favorite Character: Kaely and Logan

Conclusion: I'm just not a fan of the main character, Alex. She doesn't really think things through and I found her to be... annoying. The plot is basically the same as the other book

Honestly, I'm not sure if I will even read the last book in the series. It was slow going, and it just wasn't my liking. That doesn't mean it was a horrible book - just not my favorite.

In the thrilling book 2 of The Quantico Files, we not only have another story about Alex Donovan but we meet up with the famous Kaely Quinn from a previous series. This was a fresh and intricately layered story of a diabolical UNSUB that the FBI team is trying to profile in hopes of aiding local law enforcement.
“He’s the puppet master who expects his puppets to act out his plan perfectly.”
Ms. Mehl manages to wow us with her seriously bad guys and gets her protagonists into impossible situations but the way they get out of their predicaments and solve their problems is always interesting and highly entertaining.
I especially like the characters of Alex and Logan and how they grew in their spiritual journey, learning to rely on God through the really tough times. I always enjoy anything to do with Quantico, FBI and other agencies. This book series deals with the Behavioral Analysis Unit and profiling. I am looking forward to the third book in this absorbing, dramatic series.

Nancy Mehl’s Dead Fall is over-the-top intense! First of all, Kaely Quinn is back! If you haven’t read the Kaely Quinn Profiler series, it’s one of my favorites. But Dead End follows the FBI Behavioral Analyst Unit team. A killer is on the loose, targeting members of the BAU, and Alex Donovan and Logan Hart team up with Kaely to create a profile of the serial killer. But they can’t seem to get a read on their UNSUB, who continues to go after the team.

I loved this story! So many twists and turns. I couldn’t figure out who the killer was. Nancy weaves an incredible spiritual message as she dishes out the suspense. Readers get to know more of Alex’s story and of course there’s the budding romance between her and Logan. I highly recommend this novel to suspense fans, but caution that it is intense in some scenes.

Overall Rating:
5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)

Suspense Rating:
5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)

Nancy Mehl writes my favorite Christian suspense novels that I’ve come across: they are fast paced and suspenseful, with just enough suspension of disbelief to be interesting without being absolutely improbable, like some other Christian suspense I read. Dead Fall wasn’t my favorite Nancy Mehl book, but overall it was really fun and very suspenseful.

Alex Donovan is the main profiler in this book, but Kaley Quinn from Mehl’s other series (Kaley Quinn Profiler) is also prominently featured in this book, which was really fun. I really enjoyed Kaley Quinn’s series so it was nice to read more about her. The relationship between Alex and Kaley was also really fun to read about, and there was some interesting discussion that was generated from the them working together that I enjoyed.

The mystery/suspense aspect of this book was more disbelievable than some of her previous books, and it took me a while to get into this book (whereas for some of her other books I’ve read, there is nothing but action from the first page). The conversation seemed a little more stilted than usual and the story seemed to flow a little less smoothly. Not to say there wasn’t action early on, which there was, but it took me a bit to get into the story. The suspension of disbelief was greater than the other Mehl books, and so it wasn’t quite what I was used to also.

This book was SUPER suspenseful when it picked up though, and I could not put it down: it was such a thrilling experience! Once I got into the story, it was nothing but action. The villain was incredibly masterful, and the suspense built very well until the conclusion.

Overall, this wasn’t my favorite book written by Nancy Mehl, but I did really enjoy reading it! The twists and turns of this story made it really fun to read about, and I also really enjoyed the interactions between Alex and Kaley and the discussion of the field of behavioral analysts and why they were in the field.

If you’re looking for a good Christian suspense author, Nancy Mehl is a good one to pick up.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion; I was not required to write a positive review.

Dead Fall is the second book in Mehl’s newest series, The Quantico Files, following a strong first installment, Night Fall. This series follows Alex Donovan, member of the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, Alex is investigating a series of bizarre killings that soon come close to home.

PROS: Those that enjoyed Mehl’s Kaely Quinn series will be thrilled to learn that the author has melded the two series together as Kaely rejoins the BAU alongside Alex. As a Christian romantic suspense, the book features a strong faith element that doesn’t feel forced. As a reader who is much more interested in the suspense element than the romance, I appreciated that this book is much more focused on the suspense aspect than on the romance.

CONS: Some scenes were very cliche. There is one particular scene that came across like the old cartoon where the bad guy is tying the heroine to the railroad tracks cackling evilly and twirling his mustache. (There is no tying of anyone to the tracks in this book, that’s just the feel of it.) When the protagonist says to the antagonist, “You’ll never get away with this” it just felt cheesy. When the action finally picks up, the book’s end felt rushed and the wrap up eliminated the action I’d been waiting for through the entire book.

Overall, this installment of the series wasn’t as strong as the first book, but I do plan to check out the third book in the series, should one be released, since oftentimes the second book in a series ends up being sandwiched between a strong first and third book. Thanks go to NetGalley and Bethany House for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this story to the fullest! I even found myself looking over my shoulder.
Of course I read this book straight through the night.
Some of the scenes made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck for sure and certain.
I couldn't put it down.
Mehl is an awesome suspense writer. I like how she pulls her readers into the book and keeps them guessing right up until the end. I love books like this.
I was happy to see Kaely Quinn again. She's one smart cookie.
I really liked seeing all of the different agencies that Mehl portrays. I can tell that she has done her research well
Thanks for another awesome read!

Okay, I had some mixed feelings about this one to begin with, but it came through with the goods in the end!

I thought the beginning lacked Nancy’s usually stellar storytelling style, but after about the first 10 chapters her usual style kicked in - in overdrive!

This was non-stop action once it got going! Not a single pause until the last page! And freaked me out just a touch more than once! But just a touch! I loved revisiting Alex and Logan as characters, and I’m loving that their story is a super slow burn! Add in the return of Kaely Quinn and a plot twist worthy of an Agatha Christie novel (but really, yes, it was total Agatha-style & every bit as unpredictable as one of hers) and you have a pretty solid combination! Just the right balance of creepy, action, unpredictability and character growth.

Definitely recommend for fans of romantic suspense - especially those who don’t mind it a little light on the romance and a touch extra creepy!

This second novel in the Quantico Files series brings back profilers Kaely, Alex and Logan and Noah, all FBI agents that we have met in earlier books along with an interesting cast of characters. In this story, someone is targeting profilers. They appear to have a list of victims in mind and the profilers are trying to rush to make a profile on the killer before he kills the next person on his list. Reading this I gained a lot of insight into how profilers work and how they help their counterparts track down the criminals. I enjoyed the FBI theme, which is one of my favorites. There is plenty whodunit in this book, suspense and twist. I always enjoy Nancy Mehl's books and this one is no exception. I love that these FBI personnel are on the side of good and not evil and all have found a relationship with Jesus or are pursuing one. I like that the story is all about the plot with no salacious personal details.

Wow! What a great second book in this series!

There were SO many things I loved about this story! Alex is such a complicated character. Getting to know her in book one helps the reader to understand why she is the way she is. The author is spectacular at creating multi-dementional characters. Add in Kaely Quinn from the Kaely Quinn Profiler series and you've got a recipe for perfection!

Logan reminds me of Noah in the Kaely Quinn series. They both have feelings for the female protagonist, but they're so broken and in need of God, they have to hold themselves back. Logan seems to live on the edge of frustration.

This story... whew! Sheer insanity from the start. There were a couple of times throughout the story, about 3/4 of the way through, when I thought I knew who the evil person was in the story. Then the author threw in twists that took me away from my idea, but in the end I was kind of correct. Mostly. At the end, when the reveal happened, I "knew" it was someone else and was completely wrong. I was actually surprised when my line of thinking actually was true! I may have patted myself on the back.

How an author comes up with these storylines is mind boggling. The ability to write such diabolical characters and follow their line of thinking, plotting, and carrying out plans is an absolute gift!

I absolutely LOVED how the salvation message was presented in this story! The strong faith from Kaely and Logan is important to the development of Alex and her brand new faith. Also, I LOVED how the author talks about Satan being real and active! I'm so thankful she doesn't shy away from truth like that. I appreciate that she also reminds us that he's defeated through Jesus!!

I would've liked to have the ending more "involved" with the evil person instead of being told what happened (seemed a bit anticlimactic because I want to see the bad person pay hahaha). The VERY end though... THAT was... wow!

"Those in law enforcement pay a heavy price when they constantly look into the dark minds of evil."

Unfortunately, the man who penned those words is now dead, police finding the eerily prophetic words written on a note that was presumably slipped underneath the door of John Davis' locked hotel room. Before his fellow behavioral analysts have time to create a viable profile of John's killer, another bizarre death occurs, under similar, yet very different circumstances. Both men had been killed from afar; hands off from their murderer so to speak, with clear indication that more dead bodies should be expected to surface. When the F.B.I.'s highly trained Behavioral Analysis Unit begins to review the cases, two impressive team members unite their skills; Alex Donovan and Kaely Quinn. But will it be enough?

Honestly, the ebbs and flows of this book made it a little difficult to rate . . . . . the story line is an interesting combination of cerebral investigative collaboration and a boots-on-the-ground frenzy to the finish line. Refreshing spiritual depth is combined with creepy psycho vibes, but it works. It really does, and suspense fans will be just that . . . . . fans.

Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl is a twist of Criminal Minds with a taste of romance. I enjoy a good suspense novel that dives deep into the killer's perspective or mind. CSI is one of my favorite series about solving the mysteries because I loved watching the science and the evidence lead toward a captured killer or bad guy. With Dead Fall, Mehl is pretty much doing the same thing with a novel format. Alex, the heroine, was in the first novel, so she is a returning character. The hunt for the clues to solve the mystery lead the story along. The characters acting and reacting to the different elements that kept the story moving along. The mindset of the Behavior Analyists kept me glued to the story. There was a touch of romance, but too much. Maybe something for later. Overall, Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl is definitely a book that I want to add to my bookshelf. If readers enjoy CSI, Criminal Minds, or these type of stories, then I would suggest picking up this novel.

This book is a twisty knot involving coerced suicides. Could they all be connected and can the FBI's behavioural unit figure out the connections before it's too late? When one of their own becomes a victim, the stakes only get higher. The suspense is great, the romance good, making this a book that lovers of romantic suspense will enjoy.

This is the second novel in The Quantico Files series by Mehl featuring members of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. They are the people who create a profile of the killer. This series focuses on Alex, the agent featured in the first book, Night Fall. Kaely Quinn is a co-worker of Alex and features prominently in this series. She has appeared in a previous series, Kaeyly Quinn Profiler. Her way of profiling is unique and to obtain the best experience of understanding her character, the series featuring Kaely should be read first.

The action in this novel is a bit different from typical ones featuring FBI agents. This novel sees the agents sequestered when it becomes evident someone is targeting members of their unit. Most of the plot centers on BAU agents sitting around a table reviewing information and then trying to create a viable representation of the killer. His method of killing is manipulating people to commit suicide so the evidence is slim.

I felt there was quite a bit of repetition as the team discussed yet again the little evidence and conjectured on the character of the killer. At one point Kaely says, “We're just going in circles.” Alex expressed my own feelings when she replied, “I feel the same way.” (2244/3808) Alex made a revealing comment a bit later. “Working a profile is boring, detailed work. Very repetitive.” (2263/3808) My thoughts exactly.

This is a novel for readers who like characters thinking about their past actions and current growth and possible future. Alex thinks much about who she is and who she wants to become. I really appreciated the Christian aspect of the novel as Kaely and Alex have some good discussions with the gospel clearly presented.

While this may be different from the FBI style plots I generally like, I did appreciate a good dose of suspense at the end as well as a twist I did not see coming at all. Mehl continues to create engaging novels centered on character development and I will be looking for the next in this series.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

This new book emphasizes Nancy Mehl's amazing ability to get into the minds of those who are intent on evil, and I was fascinated with the villain that she's created for Dead Fall. This madman is targeting the members of the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, and it becomes apparent that the murders are being done from afar. Alex Donovan and Logan Hart are back, from the first book of this series, and they're both caught in a frantic race to discover the killer, before they lose more of their team members. Kaely Quinn is also involved, and I'm once again impressed with just how special she really is. I became her fan after reading the Kaely Quinn, Profiler series, and Kaely's own tortured past offers her special insight into Alex's personal issues. She is there to help and encourage Alex, and I loved seeing the friendship that evolves between two women who have each overcome so many obstacles.

Mehl has created an intense thriller filled with danger, adventure, and surprising twists, and she once again weaves a compelling faith message into her story. Dead Fall is an intriguing psychological drama and I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian suspense novels.

I always enjoy Nancy’s storylines and characters, they are unique. I love watching how the characters unfold who the UNSUB is. This book actually had me guessing until the criminal was revealed. I wondered about that person but I didn’t think it really was. She did a great job of throwing off the reader and keeping us guessing.

There is a strong faith message but unfortunately it’s not really the gospel message. There really isn’t any mention of sin and out need for a Savior because of sin, but more about how God will make our lives better. He does, and can, but not always in the way we want Him to.

I also hate reading about people’s dreams. I find that so boring because I know it’s a dream. This happened a couple of time in this book and I really just skimmed over it. Nancy and I also disagree on theology as hers comes through very clearly in her book. Not that I don’t think some of the things she is writing about can’t happen but it is rare and not something, I believe, Christians should be chasing after. I as there once and I started chasing the gifts instead of the giver and that put me in a very angry place.

With that being said, it is a very interesting story and I did enjoy the plot.

After putting to rest the most personal case of her career, Alex Donovan is ready to move on and focus on her future at the FBI's elite Behavioral Analysis Unit. When the BAU cofounder is discovered dead in his hotel room, the FBI is called in to work on the strangest case they've ever faced. How do you find a killer who murders his victims from a distance?

When it becomes clear that the killer is targeting agents in Alex's unit, they are ordered into lockdown, sheltered in the dorms at Quantico. Alex bunks with controversial agent Kaely Quinn, and as they work together, Alex discovers in Kaely the role model she's never had--despite being warned away.

As Alex questions the type of agent she wants to become, things get personal when the brilliant killer strikes close to home. Now Alex will do anything to find the killer--even at the risk of her own life.

My review: What an interesting book. How do you find a killer when it appears to be a suicide? But you know the person would never commit suicide. Alex is task with doing just that. Every where she and her team goes, it seems the killer knows what they are doing before they do.

This is the second book in the series The Quantico Files. It's not necessary to read the first book in the series before reading this one. I recommend it as you learn more about Alex's background.

I recommend this book to all who like a good mystery.

Nancy Mehl’s books keep getting darker and more dangerous – and this makes for a thrilling read that you won’t be able to put down. I loved the psychological aspect of this one even more than the last, but even better than that were the lessons about preparing for and fighting evil. We all need to know how to do this, and Mehl has crafted the perfect story to illustrate this.

I also loved the connection with the last series. The crossover elements that included Kaely Quinn added an element of fun for this bookish fan girl, and I loved getting another look at a character I loved. Her inclusion added new dimensions to Alex’s character that I liked, as well, and that growth makes for a deeper, richer story.

If you have issues with shows like Criminal Minds, where the story takes you into the darkness that permeates that place, then this might not be the book for you – but if you enjoy swift twists and turns, plot twists that will keep you guessing, and high-speed action that will keep your heart racing, you need to grab Dead Fall now. You won’t be able to put it down. I think this is Mehl’s best book yet.
