4.5 stars- this was such a good read! Surprisingly this was better than the first book and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for more.
This book, for only being 250 pages, packs one hell of a punch. There is so much that happens and I can easily see this turning into a 5+ book series! We pick up right where book one left off, with Mai being taken away. Over the course of the book we learn more about who Mai is, who the Fall alphas are (if you couldn’t have already guessed from book one), and meet some new faces along the way.
What I loved about this book is that Bailey doesn’t spend too much time where it isn’t needed. Mai spends a few weeks in captivity and it doesn’t take up 50% of the book, meaning we’re able to see a lot more of her journey progress. I also am loving how Mai is becoming confident both with herself and with her alphas. On the other hand, this is a slow-burn book and I’m looking forward to them all just being upfront with one another about how they feel.
One of the drawbacks is that the book feels extremely overwhelming at times. Baileys universe is intense, with wolves, angels, humans, griffons, courts, and more. Greek mythology also plays a huge role in this story, so needless to say there is a lot going on. I think this leaves room for a ton of spin-offs, but also leaves enough room for confusion with the reader. Im hopeful that the next book will help explain some of the setting more, as I would love to have a clearer image of this society.
Lastly, the characters! For as much as the alphas say they trust Mai, it irked me that they blew her off every time she mentioned that she did not like Adira or at Adira had done something to hurt her. I can understand their reservations, but damn I’m looking forward to the moment where Mai can have her “I told you so!” moment. Another nw development is Callahan, the angel from one of the courts. Callahan is a character I’m really looking forward to getting to know. Is it bad I want him to be part of the harem? He certainly gives the alphas a run for their money, and it’s refreshing to see Mai interact with a man not part of the group. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow closer to Mai, romantically or not.
While a lot happens in this book there is still so much more to be told, and I can’t wait for the next part!
