A delightful read by a Ballarat (Victoria, Australia) Author and set in the same historic town. As an e-book novella, it is a quick and entertaining read. Perfect for readers of light romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a sweet, clean second chance at love romance. It takes place in Australia so some of the terms were a little different for me but I enjoy reading and learning new things from different places. There were some places that I had to read several times to figure out if it was those differences or just needed additional editing.

This was just from Lilac Loveday POV. It would have been nice to have Harris (Harry) MacAulay as well. There were some scenes that would have helped having his POV. Like when he rushes from the cafe.

Lilac (what a great name!) is a landscape designer. She struggled to raise her two children after her husband's death. She fought long and hard to be the woman that she is. But her only wish, GRANDKIDS!!!! She goes about plotting to get her daughter with some single young men. In her first attempt, she fails miserably but she meets a gentleman just a few years older than herself.

Harry is an owner of a very prestigious construction company. He doesn't come off as wealthy but very down to earth. After a second fail attempt with Harry witnessing it again, he suggest that they plot the "Operation Grandchild" together.

The plot was a good one but it could have used a little bit of more polish. There were times when I was confused as to what was going on. The foundation was a good one but it needs a bit more polish. I can see the author has potential.

3.5 Candles

In a vain attempt to get her daughter to meet someone, fall in love, and give her a grandchild, Lilac Loveday will do almost anything. After two complete failures, a duo of falls, she meets a good-looking, blue-eye man who sees her for what she truly is—but it’s a pity he’s too old to be her future son-in-law. Yet, there is something about the man that makes her legs tremble, wakes up parts that she thought were dead since her husband died.
Harris MacAulay is a big deal when it comes to construction, and she can’t help but wonder what he sees when he looks at her. Lilac would rather hang out in the sun with a plant than have a spa day. Harry is truly remarkable, but is he too good to be true? A widower with a big heart, he seems to care about her, but why would he want someone who’s makeup is out of date and is more comfortable in work boots. Yes, he says he will help her with her grandchild project, but soon she wonders if having a grandchild is just a patch for her lonely heart.
