The fate of the world rests on a knife edge. A new dawn is fast approaching. Dark times wait to unfold. Soon, everything will change.
I've lost everything.
Now what? Embrace part of myself by taking the easy path? Fight even with my hope stripped away? Fade into my sorrow? I have to make a choice. The clock has run down.
Time's up.
Change is a beast in need of feeding, however that plays out...
Reckoning is the fourth and final book in the Fallen Fire series. Get ready for an Urban Fantasy tale packed with action, adventure, and a slow-burn MM Romance.
Richard Amos is an author from England who is constantly lost in the worlds he writes about, and the ones in the queue yet to be written. He also has more books in his house than anything else, and is never without a book (and chocolate) in his hands when he's not writing. He’s a proud nerd who loves to dance. Hard.
Richard writes M/M Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance, all with tons of kick-ass action, adventure, twisty plots, and yummy times.
First things first...do not pick this up unless you've read the preceding books in the series - it definitely needs to be read in order.
Oh man! This wonderfully complex tale of good versus evil, both on a small scale (Zayn's internal battle with Uriel) and on a significantly higher scale (we're talking potentially the end of the world as we know it here!), reaches its conclusion in Reckoning. There's a real sense of 'darkness before the dawn' as Zayn's love and loyalty are tested, Charlie is returned and discovers more about how he can influence the outcome. We've also got all of the different factions' machinations (Lucifer/Lilith/Raphael) and their use of Demonbloods/Magicblooods, etc, in their attempt to fulfil their agendas. Then, just because things aren't interesting enough, there's some 'enemy of my enemy' at play in an epic battle in Angelica.
Overlaying the action, of course, there's the slow-burn matter of Zayn and Charlie's relationship. I love Charlie and his unwavering belief in Zayn and his willingness to throw himself in harm's way to do the right thing in spite of his fears. He's an absolute hero! And Zayn - oh bless. There's so much anguish whilst he's caught up in the ongoing fight for dominance with Uriel, whilst under pressure from outside influences. These guys truly deserve the happiest of hard-won HEAs.
Sometimes I'll have that bittersweet feeling at the close of a series - happy because things have concluded the way they should but sad I won't get to read more of those characters' escapades. Not here. Not because I don't like the ending - it's actually perfect. I just think these poor guys have been through enough...honestly! They more than deserve to live out a sweet HEA; maybe retire somewhere nice to live out their days in peace and quiet. Evoking this level of empathy and depth of feeling takes some serious skills from the author in terms of character development, world building, plot development and storytelling. So I'll just say 'so long and thanks for this epic rollercoaster of an adventure' to Zayn and Charlie...and bring on the next series.
In case it needs spelling out; I think Reckoning is exciting and imaginative 5* urban fantasy writing - a fabulous conclusion to the Fallen Fire books.
An ARC was provided by the author. This is my honest review.
I have been reading this author for some time, and I really enjoy his writing. This latest is a series ender, and I am sad, as always, to see it go. Uriel/Zayn is with Lucifer, and he is extremely devastated about the end of the last book not knowing the truth. This book was a wild ride full of so much action and stuff going on, I felt like I had whiplash. I love Charlie as a character almost more than I love Zayn. This was an epic end to a great series. I do admit that I was not happy with how poor Zayn ended up in the end (can’t say much because spoilers), but what a great author that I ended up feeling this way. LOL! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This has been an awesome series and this last instalment did it justice. Action packed and intense with incredible world building and great characters this has been an exciting and thrilling ride and has got it’s well deserved epic ending!
New Dawn is approaching fast, and Lucifer seems to be unstoppable. With the dragon at his side and his most trusted nephilim turning back into his fallen angel self, Angelica city is on the brink of change no one expected and few would welcome. But the resistance is feeble, and barely anyone is really willing to stand up to the Dark Lord. Will Zayn find enough willpower to usurp back his body? Will Dave Ellison's secret work save the day, or the Dragonbloods? A little bittersweet ending to the series, with as much pain as there was love and hope. Yet it makes the book only more realistic, as there are always casualties at war. There is death, suffering, and grief. People lose their lives, their hope, their loved ones. One cannot help the celestial war would be different. Yet Charlie's strength, unyielding love, and stubborn determination show everyone that the one considered weak could be the strongest of them all. There are moments worth reading the book for, moments of wisdom, and even silly moments of collecting those Billy Wizard Bears :D I really enjoyed reading the series.
The final book of the Fallen Fire series. This book was such an emotional roller coaster (well the whole series was). My heart went out to the guys: so much to endure, it had to get really really bad before getting better. The previous book ended on a devastating note, and although my brain realized that it wasn't the end, there was one more book ahead, so it couldn't be the end, right? My heart was breaking and aching together with the characters. I am a huge Charlie fan. Such a wonderful loving guy, a kind compassionate soul. He was through so much and still stood strong believing in good, believing in Zayne. And although he cried a lot (which he hated doing and which was so endearing) he was the strongest one out of all the characters of the book. Admire him so much. As for Zayne my heart was full of empathy for him. All the suffering he went through, all this split soul stuff was so hard and the fight almost impossible to win. .. The book is packed with action, everything is constantly in motion: Lucifer, Lilith, Raphael...all taking their stage time. That was fascinating, gripping and so emotional! I often don't want the book to end as it's usually time to say goodbye to the main characters who have managed to find a permanent place in your heart, but in this case I welcomed the finale and not because the book was not engaging - quite the opposite! No, I wanted the guys to stop suffering and find their so much deserved HEA. They endured enough, more than that. And I loved the ending. Kind, tender, just the way they deserved. So, this book is a really fascinating read: an urban fantasy with artfully developed world and characters, with likable and complicated MCs, lots of action, and a HEA. What not to love? Highly recommend💖
I got hooked on this series with the first book, and the conclusion doesn’t disappoint. The action ramps up, and I liked that it’s not just Charlie and Zayn’s POV the reader follows, but Raphael and Uriel’s too. The worldbuilding is fabulous and detailed, yet doesn’t slow down the plot. I’m sad to see the last of this world.
Charlie is my favourite character. He’s a nice guy and in over his head, yet finds the strength to do what he needs to save the world and the man he loves, even if he doesn’t always know what he’s doing. He actually swears for real in this story, which shows the seriousness of the trouble they’re in! I thought the author did a great job in showing how torn Zayn/Uriel is, and later Uriel’s own inner struggle. I liked Raphael too, and his and Owen’s relationship. I hoped all the way through that Lucifer and Lilith would get what they deserved. Those two are well suited in a lot of ways.
The supporting cast rock. I love Gaby. I liked the part the angels played in this, and I was very happy to see a couple of characters from the previous book I thought had been killed.
As an aside, I always roll my eyes with a New Zealand reference related to sending someone as far away as possible. Although it is more or less accurate.
The ending is perfect for the story, and I liked that there were consequences for Zayn’s actions and what had happened to him. I thought the loose ends were tied up nicely, and I’m going to miss these guys.
Book hangover. Took me by surprise, too. Book 1 wasn't much of a heavy-hitter but left me curious all the same. Book 2? Exposition, more questions, lots of incredulous cursing on my part, and so it went with the other books.
Fuckery aplenty. Angelic fuckery, Luciferian fuckery, demonic fuckery, draconic fuckery. Oh, my! I had to binge-read because my burning questions and unrelieved tension weren't going to resolve themselves. (I wrote this rave review at 4am for obvious reasons, so apologies if it's incoherent, 😂).
The series simply got better with each book, every addition ratcheting up the tension by several bazillion notches and leaving me on a knife's edge. I binge-read these in the space of a few days and was exceptionally absorbed in the story. I can confidently say this yanked me right out of my book slump, abruptly and violently. Wonderfully complex, set in England (mostly), multidimensional characters (lovable, likeable, despicable and everything in between), perpetually shifting landscapes, the old, the new, the familiar. Creepy, compelling, heartbreaking, infuriating, maddening, earth-shattering. I highly fucking recommend.
P.S: I'm pretty much dead inside and that scene Zayn got with you-know-who yhat gave him a measure of closure brought me close to tears. 💔💔💔💔
Content warning ⚠️ for: body horror and copious amounts of violence.
This will be a review for the complete series. Overall, this was an entertaining read, however there was just many things that rubbed me the wrong way. The magical "system" in this world had no real rhyme or reason. Characters would just basically "wish" for something to happen and it did. The characters weren't properly fleshed out. It seemed Lillith and Nuria, despite being strong characters themselves, were just accessories tied to Lucifer. Nuria was a DRAGON queen yet had no goals or ambitions of her own. Lillith had such potential to be a true adversary yet her character was so lazily pieced together she just fell flat.
Also, the Angels? More like filler pieces that had no real place in this story. The supposed archangels were killed so quick there was no difference between them and the other angels. They could have contributed so much if there weren't running around not having a clue about literally anything.
The romance was decent and the main reason I stuck around till the end. I loved Charlie.
Reckoning is the fourth and final book in Richard Amos's Fallen Fire series and you're not going to want to miss this book if you have enjoyed the series this far. Things pick up where book three left off with Zayn in torment with how thing ended. Charlie is gone. Burned to ash and Lucifer is back. Zayn is at war with himself, Uriel, but for how much longer can he hold on? He's fading as Uriel gets stronger, but is Uriel fully on board with what Lucifer has in mind? Reckoning is a gripping novel and had me page-turning to learn what happens next. There honestly isn't any way to say more because then that would be a spoiler alert with every word. LOL! But you're not going to want to miss what happens in this book. The last book left you with a cliffhanger and your jaw on the floor, but this book will give you answers and so much more. I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. Don't miss out on this book!
This is book 4 and the final book in the series, you definitely need to have read the previous 3. This was an action packed ending to the series. Zayn continues to fight against Uriel for control. Charlie was killed by Lucifer in the last book, however he finds a way back and is befriended by an unlikely group of allies who are determined to take back control of the city. This book just doesn't stop from the beginning. There was just so much going on. I liked all the different viewpoints from the main characters, it really helped to understand what was going on from all the different sides. Charlie will always be my favourite character from this series. I really enjoyed the ending, I think it really fit the characters.
Zayn, a humanblood and reawakened Nephilim Uriel, is reeling from the fact that he killed Charlie, a felineblood and his friend, which triggered Lucifer being reborn whole. As the story progresses a divide still exists, a miracle occurs, and when the final reckoning comes everyone will be affected. Richard Amos’ Reckoning brought the series to a thrilling if emotional end. It will be sad not to have Zayn and Charlie’s adventures to read.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
From the opening words, this book became one that I could not read fast enough. I needed to know what would happen next, who would succeed, who would fail, how it would end. And I didn’t just need to know those things now I needed to know them right bleeping NOW! Even though it left me a weepy mess and was not at all the ending I expected, it was probably the ending I needed. It hurts my heart a little bit to know that it’s over now, yet I don’t think I’d change anything about the experience. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Hold on to your knickers! As the series conclusion, this was an amazing read! Like all the books, it was fast-paced (if possible, even more than the first 3!) and had you turning the pages asap to figure out how the characters will work their way out of the current predicaments - and there are many of those! It's always sad to read the final book in a great series - we can never read them for the first time again. But having the story of Charlie and Zayn (yes, I adore Charlie <3) finished, was amazing. I definitely recommend this book.
*I received a free coy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
This is the finale we have all been waiting for. The last book ending on a devastating cliff hanger setting things up for this to be quite the up and down ride as the story plays out. Full of plenty of surprises we finally get all the answers we have been waiting for as well as the conclusion these characters deserve after they have gone though. Makes for a truly amazing read. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Epic conclusion to this wonderful series. Zayn and Charlie get their well deserved hard won HEA. There’s a rollercoaster of action and suspense. So many levels of action and struggle going on. Without giving anything away, Zayn really goes through it in this book.
You’ve got the personal struggles and world level battles. Very well written and well planned out. No hanging threads to annoy and the best HEA. Definitely recommend this book after you’ve read the whole series.
What a up and down round and round tale. Never knowing what would happen next. Would the bad guys win out, would the good guys yes, no, yes, no. Every page you turn every chapter you read you fall deeper into this world of good versus evil. Zayn, Charlie and all the other characters keeping you gripping the edge of your seat. What an ending lived this story from beginning to end.
This was a fantastic ending for a very entertaining series. This was the first series that i've read from this authour and I am so glad that I picked up the first book. The characters are well developed, the world building is solid, it's a well paced, well written story that is full of twists and turns, keeping you entertained all the way through. I am looking forward to reading more from this authour.
I loved this conclusion so much! So much action and just wow. There were a lot of emotions and I am going to miss these characters so much. Zayn and Charlie had so much to deal with and they had a wild ride throughout the story. Definitely a rewarding ending for them and I’m so happy with the HEA. This is a great series and so worth the read! I never wanted it to end but am very happy with this ending.
Epic Conclusion to a fast-paced Roller Coaster of a ride series! Written from multiple POV's and I particularly loved the internal battler between Zayne and Urial This storey and ending will have the hardest heart breaking for Charlie and Zayne as it is so well written and emotionally packed even though its also non-stop action. Less steam than Richard’s norm but i am beginning to like that as the storey lines becoming more complex and the action more than makes up for it. Richard Amos has a very rare talent for the most imaginative and amazing world building plus creating complex characters and relationship dynamics that is missing in so many books these days. Just Brilliant !
This has been one of my favourite series so far this year. It’s full of so much action, twists and turns and I’ve really enjoyed watching Zayn grow from the reclusive shy guy at the start of book one into one of my favourite ever characters. Charlie is just so much fun and adds the light heartedness to the story as it delves into darker realms!
What a finale though! It was so well wrapped up by Richard Amos and the ending was sublime. What a finish! If I could give more stars I would!!
Amazing! I was anticipating and dreading this book to come out because I had to know how everything ends, but was not looking forward to seeing The End. This was everything I wanted and more for Zayn and Charlie. I loved every minute of this nonstop, pulse pounding ride. There was plenty of action, surprises, and twists and turns. It was sad to say goodbye to these characters, but I will definitely be rereading them soon.
While Zane struggles with dual identities, Raphael trying to regain his strength and Charlie gathering his courage, the world comes to a world shattering ending. Will everyone prevail? Or will Lucifer burn it down with dragon fire.
I absolutely love this book. JUst be prepared for the ending. It's going to rock your world.
Richard Amos has never been short on action of any sort in the Fallen Fire series. Zayn and Charlie are in impossible situations with impossible odds of making it through. When you add Lucifer, Nuria, Raphael, the Angels, and all the Bloods, the odds are not in their favor.
Loved this final book in this amazing series. There is a ton of action with their continued battle with Lucifer and I was shocked and, quite frankly, still a bit upset over what happens with Zayne/Uriel. I really grew to love Charlie and for better or worse, the book did have a HEA. It really takes you on an epic ride and keeps you drawn in from page 1. Well done!
The last chapter just blew me away. The scene between Scott and Zayn was the scene I did not realize I needed! Authors have a tendency to forget about secondary characters like Scott, but this author gave him a proper good-bye.
I'm giving this five stars because of the last chapter.
Book 4 of Fallen Fire finally brings together the disparate threads and the conflicting stories are unravelled to be seen for what they are. More mysteries and conundrums surrounding Charlie and Zayn are revealed and resolved but be warned not all the answers are revealed.
I enjoyed reading this from bbeginning to end and had to keep reading once I started. I finished it in one sitting. It moves along at a great pace, has amazing characters that you will fall in love with and a story that will not disappoint. This is a must read book, no doubt about it.
I've read everyone one in this series just everything Charlie and Zayn went through made me cry and root for them to get a HEA. So yay they survived and get to stay together. I love happy endings.
