The Troll's Toe Cheese

Rate this book
“If you love fantasy, funny humor, flatulence, and friends, then Aaron Reynolds has written the perfect book for you!” ―DAN SANTAT, author of The Aquanut , Sidekicks , and The Adventures of Beekle

Fart Quest: The Troll's Toe Cheese is the fourth book in a hilarious Dungeons & Dragons inspired series by New York Times bestselling author Aaron Reynolds.

They've destroyed an evil creature with stink gas, collected barf from a truly hideous monster, and dug through a dragon's dookie for magical treasure. Now, Fart, Pan, Moxie, and TickTock are facing their scariest challenge yet―an angry mom!

The Great and Powerful Kevin has promised Pan, who lost her mother when she was a baby, that she could see her mom one last time. But instead, shes sees a distorted spirit of her mother, transformed into an evil creature bent on revenge against those who caused her death.

Meanwhile, some new information comes to light, and Fart and friends head out on a rescue mission. Deep within the goblin caves, they search for evidence of their long lost masters, facing goblins, fire rats, floor fiends, and a troll with some seriously disgusting toenails along the way.

In this epic addition to the Fart Quest series, our adventurers discover that a true hero is not measured in the sum of their mistakes―but in the difference they make in spite of them.

This was a really good conclusion to the series. I like that they didn't go on any new quest, it just brought together the plot threads and adventures from the first three books. I'm glad Master Elmore got to be more of a character instead of just a standard "wizard master" archetype. I did think that Pan, Moxie, and Fart "overcame" their insecurities and worries about blame a few too many times - the emotional resolution didn't feel very conclusive. That said, I definitely had a few tears at the end, which speaks to how much character work has been packed into all four books. Also Pan and Peat Blossom together are adorable. Overall a really fun, lovely series that I think would serve as a fantastic introduction for kids into the world of D&D.

I received an electronic ARC from Roaring Brook Press through Edelweiss+.
In this fourth book, Reynolds connects several story threads and answers questions from the previous three quests. Readers meet Pan's mom, learn Kevin's background, and discover more about the three masters from book one. We even get to see old friends from their prior quests gather for a major battle to save Krakentop Academy and defeat the banshee.
Middle grade readers will appreciate the humor and the serious message to believe in yourself and trust your friends. The story flows smoothly and the artwork brings the characters to life. This could be an ending point for this series, but as the friends set off at the end, we could be privileged to go with them on further adventures.

Finally, Fart, Pan and Moxie reach the end of the journey. Or is it the beginning?
We find out more about some intriguing characters and their motives. We understand why things happened throughout the 4 books. It's a great wrap up. A bit confusing at some points, however, extremely fun! I wish there was more ❤️.

I absolutely loved reading this with my daughter. In my opinion, this is the best, and hopefully not the last, of the excellent Fart Quest series

E-ARC from Edelweiss+
Fart Quest: The Troll's Toe Cheese is the fourth book in this Dungeons and Dragons inspired series, which somehow after really enjoying the first book, I seemed to miss reading the second and third. Sigh. From what I can gather, each book thus far has sent Fart, Pan, Moxie and TickTock on a challenge to collect items for The Great and Powerful Kevin, who then promises to reunite Pan with her mother. With its D&D adventuring and titles like The Barf of the Bedazzler, The Dragon's Dookie and The Troll's Toe Cheese, you can probably see the kid appeal. For me, I just happened to be looking for something humorous to read, that has exciting, descriptive action scenes. Plus, I just love Cam Kendell's illustrations, although the E-ARC didn't have all the finished drawings, it was really cool to see the early sketches of artwork yet to come. This time around I also took note more of the experience point markers that punctuate each chapter, each shows the unlocked achievements and earned experience points for various actions in the story. It felt kind of like a plot diagram, sequencing the events of the story. While it would've been helpful to have read the prior books for certain details, I still really enjoyed the story. Especially that Fart, Moxie and Pan were able to reconnect with their old masters and how they transformed from these seemingly bumbling apprentices in the first book, to skilled adventures, heroes capable of overcoming any foe.

My 10 year old and I just finished this book this morning and we both cried that it's over. This series has such a fun experience to have with my kiddo and it's left a lasting mark on us. We laughed and we cried... a lot.

My son says TickTock is still his favorite character. Mine is definitely Fart.

My son's review is, "this book was definitely a lot darker than the other three and I felt like it had a lot more darker themes, especially in the Goblin caves, that was dark. But I love the way they don't give up when they are together.

I loved the way everything comes together and you find out everyone's true motivation. I don't know how to feel about Kevin. I'm kind of sad about that but also he deserved it.

I also loved how all the friends they've made along the journey showed up for them, I really cried reading that, it was beautiful.

All together I feel satisfied with how their story ended, now I want to play the game!"

Well, crud on a cracker, what an end to the Fart Quest series!

Fart, Moxie, Pan, and TickTock return from their quest to give Kevin the
final ingredient he requested from them. As a reward, the team is met with unexpected challenges.

It was full of twists, some foreshadowed and others unexpected. I enjoyed the group dynamics and potty humor. I hope to see Fart, Moxie, Pan, and TickTock in a spin-off series.

My kids and I are so sad that we’ve finished this series; we’ve loved it so much! As a mom, I highly recommend! My kids (8 & 10) both loved it! We’ve shared soooo many laughs over the span of 4 books; this particular book gave us allll the feels! No spoilers here; but we’re happy with how it ended but also hoping for MORE!

Ok. After Rick Riordan books I think this series might be my new favorite and I think this one is my favorite out of the series. There are so many good lessons contained within this book, so many good quotes and (some) of the adults ADMIT when they make a mistake and that is such an important thing for kids to hear/see.

A perfect ending to a thrilling series! I read the whole series with my 8 year old son & we both got a little teary-eyed at the end, and he immediately asked for more Aaron Reynolds after we finished. All characters had great arcs (and did some really icky but important things), and kept us both hooked and entertained. Would recommend for all fart and poop- loving kids!

This book is a great end of the Fart Quest series. The characters show real growth from the beginning of the series and many elements from previous books culminate in this one.
