For two hundred years, I’ve been the second in command to the Vampire King. It’s my job to predict threats before they happen…but I never saw her coming.
Valor Moorehouse isn’t just the daughter of our greatest enemy, she’s a real pain in the ass, and according to the mark that just appeared—my mate.
My head warns me against her captivating eyes, her sharp tongue, her delectable scent. But my heart? It demands to protect and claim. I’m everything she was raised to hate, and she’s everything I can’t trust.
She wants me to help rescue her cousin, but we’re in the middle of an all-out war, and we’re seriously outnumbered. Valor’s inside information may be the key to stopping the enemy...if I can trust her. And if I can’t… I just might be walking into the deadliest trap of my immortal life.

Samantha Whiskey, you had me at immortal Scottish vampire!! Seriously how much sexiness can one reader take???? Crimson Highlander is a singe your fingers, enemies to lovers, hot vampire romance. Lachlan is a tatted, sexy, alpha vampire. Valor is his sworn enemy...on paper, in reality she is his everything. The mating bond binds them to one another, despite their attempts to ignore it. With or without the bond, they are extremely attracted to each other, their chemistry bordering on nuclear and their love-to-hate each other relationship, the sexiest mating dance, I ever did read. If you’re like me, and a fan of this genre, then Crimson Highlander is a must read romance for you and if you’re new to it, Lachlan and Valor will make a paranormal romance lover out of you. TBR and Enjoy!
July 2024 - re-read. Still good. Still hot. And anticipating all the good stories and 'matings'.
So I fan-girl-ed all over the first in the series and that was before the hero had a Scottish accent (insert swoony sigh). The Crimson Highlander is the second installment in the Onyx Assassins series - stories about kick-ass vampire warriors who protect their race and other supernatural beings. We met the King in the first book and this one follows the King's General and best friend. When these males fall, they fall hard with an all consuming power that makes it difficult for them to function outside of the bond.
With all the action, hotness and flare of her contemporary stories and the added mystery of the paranormal world - Samantha Whiskey continues to bring it. Every time, I'm drawn to her characters and their stories. Upset when they're over. Thankfully she leaves a teaser for the next one and I can not wait! 5 stars
I loved this book, not as much as the first, but still a great read. I'm honestly glad I found this series, I'm really enjoying it, the romance is great, the plot is good, and while the twists and turns aren't super shocking or surprising, it's still very much entertaining.
I will say, this book needs to be better edited. It had quite a few glaring grammatical errors and typos. It usually doesn't bother me, authors and editors are humans after all, I don't blame them for missing one or two typos, but the errors were pretty blatant in this case and recurring.
All in all, the Onyx Assassins series is a great paranormal romance series, if alpha vampires, brotherhood, supernatural creatures, romance, and steam are your thing, you'll love it. I'm very excited about the third book, which I'll be reading right after this!
Really enjoyed this! It was much better than the first book in the series, Lachlan's and Valor's chemistry was so much more believable. That enemies-to-lovers trope gets me every time!
Moving on to the next installment, though I don't think it'll be as good as this one.
This series is taking over my life. I really enjoyed Alek & Lyrics story. But Lachlan & Valor, they take it to a whole new level. Lachlan was not my favourite Onyx Assassin in the first book but his and Valor’s story had me hook, line and sinker, and Lachlan one me over. They’re love-hate filled relationship was filled with drama.
Now I’m not going to beat around the bush, if you read my review of the first in the series you’ll know I was hooked from the get go. This series is fabulous.. I kid you not, every single character is brilliant. They all have their own quirks and traits and they all bring something to the Onyx Table (when you read it you’ll know)
I loved how everything panned out with hints to the other stories that are coming. Please tell me Xavier gets a story because as much as I’m waiting for Hawke’s story, it’s Xavier that’s going to bring me to my knees. I know it.
I’m off to devour pretty boy Ransom’s story. And I’m so deliciously happy about it. See you on the other side!
Samantha is my go-to for sports romances with all the feels and heat, and she's quickly becoming my favorite paranormal writer as well. I mean the oldest generation of vampires falling in love with humans?! YESS!! Add in to the fact that this certain vampire is a growly, broody alpha who wants the one woman he shouldn't -- you know this is going to be good!
So if you've read the first book in the series, then you know that Valor's family was into some pretty sadistic crap when it came to the paranormal, and she was always mean to earn her rightful place and continue on the family legacy (aka torture & murder), but she's long realized that the ignorant way her family lives isn't whay she want for herself, and she betrayed her own flesh and blood to protect her best friend. On the run from her family (and from the vampires she helped plot against) her world once again turns upside down when she's branded with the mating mark -- Lachlan's mark.
Lachlan is the epitome of the alpha protector, and even when he wants to strangle valor, he has this innate need to always keep her out of harms way (and to kiss her senseless.) They both fight the fate of the mark, which has extreme consequences for them both, but they find the more they fight it, the stronger the bond between them comes. And when push comes to shove, they will do anything to keep the other safe.
Talk about a HOT swoon fest. Seriously these paranormal books are the hootttessttt books SM has ever written!! And the love? Oh gosh, the love between Valor and Lachlan was just everything! The push and pull, the right amount of angst, their emotional connection, how they would be fighting one minute and then tearing off their clothes the next, it was all just fabulous. I cannot get enough of this series!!
I admittedly do not read much paranormal romances, but these vampire books are quickly becoming my new obsession!!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**
Another great read! This is Lachlan and Valor's story. In this one there was some difficulty as Valor is the daughter of the enemy to supernatural world and was being bred to kill vampires and the like...So you could see how bad it could be that Lachlan was her actual mate! They fight it in the beginning, but the mate pull is strong and eventually they come together. Valor is strong for a human and the perfect match for Lachlan, as he is second in command and the General for the Vampire army, and Valor is a bad ass in her own right. Filled with action, a pleasant surprise from Princess Avi, hot scorching sex, and a terrific reveal with Xavier, leader of the demon army and Daphne...loved it! 4 solid stars🌟🌟🌟🌟
I was enjoying CRIMSON HIGHLANDER in the beginning but it just completely lost steam for me. Enemies to lovers is not my favorite trope so I definitely struggled with all the animosity between Lachlan and Valor; and once again the author relied heavily on the fated mates trope to do all the heavy lifting when it came to the characters' feelings.
Also there were several inconsistencies from the first book, for instance, Alek can read minds all of a sudden when that was not a power he had in book 1.
It was a tough decision as to what to score this installment of the Onyx Assassins. While it is a good book by anyone's definition: plenty of action and romance, fascinating characters, quick and humorous dialogue, Crimson Highlander was not as spectacular as its predecessor, Crimson Covenant. That is not to say that the hijinks involved between Valor and Lachlan are not vastly entertaining, because trust me they are. Add Avianna, Olivia, Ransom, Hawke and Benedict to the their story and wait to see what else can happen. You'll be pleasantly surprised! Perhaps lightning really does strike twice, Alek and Lyric may be a hard couple to follow however, hard does not mean impossible....
Alek & Lyric's story was so good and hit such amazing high notes and then I read this one... Lachlan & Valor are simply amazing like two perfect storms crashing together and the dynamic between the two is just awesome. Cannot wait for Ransom's story!
OMG that was absolutely delicious!!!! Only because I have to work did it take me more than a day to read. Such a magnificent story that is jam packed full of chemistry!
Loved this book and the first one in the series. Samantha has such a talent for writing incredible books that grab a reader and don't let go! Don't wait, start reading now! Each book in this series is a stand alone but I do recommend reading the first one to understand the storyline better.
Oh my gosh that was one of the most awesome book I ever read. I’m not going to describe it to you. I definitely recommend this book. Now I can’t wait for the next book. Go ahead and pick up your copy. You will not be disappointed I guarantee it.
I loved this book, loved Lachlan and Valor and their chemistry. I wasn’t sure about how I would like this new series from Ms Whiskey, but I will say that so far it’s exceeded my expectations. I like her style of writing, the characters, and the whole premise. I look forward to reading the next installment of the series.
I have read every single one of the author's books and this one is the best one since Cannon! I could not put this one down, I stayed up way too late reading and then got up early to finish. I loved how these two came together and it was super fun to watch the lies they told themselves play out. Well done, Samantha!!! The ending was perfection and I can't wait for the rest to come out!!
Crimson Highlander is book 2 in the Onyx Assassins series this book is about Lachlan and Valor. This pair will drive you nuts but they have serious heat coming from the pages when they finally give in to being each others mate, it will also have your anxiety levels at an all time high. Looking forward to book 3.
Gah! I L-O-V-E-D this book! Valor and Lachlan were so steamy hot! 🔥 Cannot wait for Olivia's story next! I was hooked on this series after the first page of book 1. Absolutely love Samantha Whiskey books! I received an ARC for an honest review.
I absolutely enjoyed Lachlan & Valor story. I couldn’t wait too read this because I knew that their chemistry was going to be off the charts. Both stubborn but loyal and together they could be unstoppable. Lachlan will definitely have you hooked to your kindle. I am so ready for Random’s story.
