I am sure if you follow my reviews; you know all about my love for cookbooks that tie into novels, or TV shows. I was excited to dive into this one. I loved Bridgerton, and I adore cooking. So win-win, right? 👩🏻🍳 Unfortunately, it didn't exactly blow me away. Don't get me wrong, it's a cute cookbook. Well laid out, with easy to follow recipes, photos, and little bits of information about the recipes or ingredients. I tried "Household Hasty-Bake Oatmeal Pies with Sugared Berries" and they were quite yummy. As was the "Rumor-Stirring Blueberry Lavender Fizz". I don't think I would pick this one up regularly when looking for ideas, but it makes a cute addition to any cookbook collection. Especially if you are a Bridgerton fan!
This is a pretty little cookbook with recipes that people are likely to enjoy, but doesn't seem to be at all historically accurate. I collect vintage cookbooks and this one seems very modern but designed to seem old fashioned and suitable for a tea time or pretend feast. Ingredients and methods are not at all representative of the time. There are some photos, typically of the food presented on fancy china and such to fit the theme. No nutritional information is provided. Most of the recipes call for wheat and sugar, and many call for meat, so it will be less suitable for those on special diets. Tidbits about Bridgerton are used throughout.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook.
I might be one of the last few people who hasn’t seen the show yet, but I love food porn so I was excited when my request was approved.
This is a fun cookbook filled with both easy and complicated recipes that require fancy schmancy ingredients typical for a ton with labor intensive steps you shouldn't attempt unless you have half a day to devote to it or a scullery maid to do the grunt work.
My favorite part was the factoids at the end of each recipes about a particular ingredient in the preceding recipe or a fact about the old timey fun timey past.
I wish there were more photos but that might change when the book goes to press.
This would be a cool gift for a Bridgerton fan though I can't see many home cooks attempting many of the recipes, unless its for a Bridgerton themed party.
This is a fun cookbook, perfect for Bridgerton fans! Each recipe has a Bridgerton story tied to it, and some of the recipes are authentically traditional British ones. I was happy to see there were recipes that fit with the theme but used modern ingredients like chocolate chips. The pictures are lovely too!
I’m definitely trying:
Dignified Delicata Squash Benedict’s Perfected Cod à la Hollandaise Lady Bridgerton’s Salmon Tartare Fervor Sinkers (hot chocolate balls that open in hot milk) Granville’s Sumptuous Chocolate Mousse Cups
I’m sure I’ll refer to it many times, 5 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
ehh this is not my favorite. I admit I have only seen the tv show and been to the actual castle. I didnt care for nearly all of the recipees and i understand it was supposed to be food of the time. I think it could have been enhanced with more bridgerton quotes or stories as most recipees just wont be made.
The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook is an engagingly whimsical collection of period style recipes with tie-ins to the popular historical costume drama. Due out 23rd Nov 2021 from Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 240 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.
This is a fun themed cookbook full of small delightfully civilized dishes and trifles. The author has arranged them thematically: breakfast, luncheon, afternoon tea, banquet dishes (soups, vegetables, fish, and meats), and sweets & libations. The recipes are full of small details and descriptions highlighting details about ingredients or historical preparation and presentation methods.
Each recipe includes serving yields, lots of special notes, and prep times. Recipe ingredients are listed bullet point style along with optional ingredients. All measurements are given in American standard measures only. The directions are given step by step, numbered sequentially. The nutritional information is not provided.
Most of the recipes' ingredients are easily to find and the resultant dishes are quite fancy and appealing. Some of the ingredients will be difficult to source outside of specialist retailers and/or large metropolitan areas (or mail order). Roughly 20-25% of the recipes include photos. The photos are beautifully styled with elegant place settings, china, silver, and presentations.
Four stars. This is the perfect gift for cooks who love high tea, brunch, entertaining, and aren't intimidated by time/labor intensive dishes.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Very Good! A fun look at the 19th century Regency Era (1811-1820) with its historical dishes and dining customs. It includes some modern twists to entrées and fun food facts about the time-period.
The book has elegant photos for a variety of delights: sweet tomato jam, standing pies, tropical fruits, muffins, gooseberries, and cocktails. There are eye-catching recipe titles, such as: "Lustful Lobster Thermidor, Debutante Punch, and Meringe Kisses in the Garden."
The book has good writing, easy instructions, and poetic overtures that can feed both the stomach and heart!
🌷Book Quotes:
"Noble and forgiving, the pork shoulder never falls from grace."
"Here we have a hearty gentleman's soup, one not easily swayed by seduction or levigated by lust."
"And what is more suitable a dish to an island nation than fish?"
Like I wrote about the outlander recipe book, this too is very interesting and provides some realism to the story. I enjoyed the photography. Photography is part of the reason I even pickup cookbooks. This cookbook is very dainty and the foods much more delicate in appearance, far more attractive looking in comparison to the Outlander cookbook, and understandably so.
3/5. Very pretty but the recipes are really just copy and paste and not very descriptive. Also don’t like that a lot of the more difficult recipes don’t have a picture of what it should look like when completed.
3 - 4 stars as the non recipe pictures was a letdown. “The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook” is as described, a well written recipe - cookbook that you have the opportunity to recreate and eat certain recipes from the show. Recipes range from drinks, pre dinner snacks, meals and desserts including items served at the balls, picnics. The cookbook is similar style to the cookbook in the older times but with a couple pictures of what the item should look like; whereas to compare to a modern times styled cookbook should contain a picture of each recipe. The cookbook isn’t what I expected but still ideal book to recreate the recipes from the timeline of Bridgerton. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Adams Media via NetGalley for my honest review of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own thoughts, feelings and viewpoints of the book.
Dear Readers, I have taken to my bed with a fit of the vapors and a bottle of laudanum after this supposed Regency-inspired cookbook began with a recipe for buttermilk biscuits and gravy. What followed was not all bad but it did not in any way, shape, or form bring to mind the splendor of Bridgeton or even high tea at Pegg House. Panko bread crumbs, avocado soup, heaven forfend! However, I shall be referring to Caprese salad as tomato tartare henceforth.
[Librarian's note: no doubt I will be adding this to the collection because other Bridgerton fans will demand it. I hope Julia Quinn's getting her cut since this title takes the names of her characters and settings in vain. Let me be clear, these recipes are in no way authentically Regency nor are they even authentically English at heart. These recipes are the sumptuousness of the Regency era deconstructed.]
I love reading cookbooks and I read this one cover-to-cover. I'd have to say I wasn't overly impressed. I had hoped to find one or two new things to make for my Christmas tea party, but I wasn't inclined to try any of these recipes. Nor was I fond of the storytelling or annotation or whatever Lex Taylor would choose to call. the writing.
Even if you haven’t watched the popular Netflix Bridgerton series, The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook: From The Viscount's Mushroom Miniatures and The Royal Wedding Oysters to Debutante Punch and The Duke's Favorite Gooseberry Pie Inspired by Bridgerton, is a fun cookbook to add to your cookbook collection. It includes recipes from Regency England that will be appealing to everyone who loves food, especially food from the past. The recipes are very “English” and include classics such as scones and tea sandwiches, as well as refreshing beverages, cakes, and biscuits (cookies), muffins, and even macarons. The side dishes and especially the main dishes are fairly elegant and fit for royalty, but not overly so. They are, however, mouthwatering. Unfortunately, there isn’t a photograph of every recipe, but there are lots of beautiful pictures that will make it difficult to choose just what to make next. The recipes are written in the traditional form and are easy to follow. Many are quite easy, too.
All told, this is a fun cookbook full of great recipes to serve while watching Bridgerton or other shows from the period. Almost everyone will enjoy re-creating these lovely recipes, and everyone will enjoy eating the finished dishes.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook is a treat in and of itself, whether you make the recipes or not. Each recipe has an appropriate Bridgerton name and small blurb about the recipe. The blurb states fun facts, some real, some fictional, about who from the show/book enjoyed this recipe and why, and also facts about the time period. It makes it fun and more intriguing. I believe even if you are not a fan of the show/books you would enjoy this cookbook, it just has a great vibe. The ingredients for most of the recipes are nice and simple and the steps are easy to follow. I think someone just starting out on their cooking journey would be able to follow this book which is awesome. Also, someone more experienced may be able to take some creative liberty to jazz up the recipes. It would be a good cookbook for anyone who enjoys cooking.
The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook is an absolute must have, it has the perfect balance of recipes, photos, and Bridgerton flare! I would recommend it to anyone who likes the show/books and also to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. This cookbook would make a great gift for housewarming or a birthday!
Fans of the Julia Quinn series and the Netflix show will adore this cookbook! The book interweaves some prose about the book and everyone’s favorite characters/scenes with somewhat period accurate recipes. While slight modifications have been made since readers are cooking in the year 2021, the recipes are pretty spot on for what the ton would have been eating at the time. The pictures are beautiful and fully evoke the ambiance of the source material. The only criticism to offer this gorgeous book is that sometimes the instructions feel a bit sparse for modern cookbook users. This is entirely a personal quibble, but a common refrain when running a cookbook club was that the instructions were not specific enough for some cooks. It is something that I tend to notice even though it very well may not impact the functionality of the cookbook. All in all, this one would make a great holiday gift for any Romance readers in your life and a fun addition to any cookbook collection.
Do I love Bridgerton? Yes. Do I love cookbooks? Duh. Did I ever dream I could get my hands on a book that combined both of these things into one magical thing?! No. That's crazy talk. How could I ever imagine such a unicorn of a book would ever exist?! Run out and grab a copy of this book immediately and get to cooking. It may not have a recipe to transform you into Simon's spoon, but if you serve up any of these other recipes you're sure to be the talk of The Ton.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been working my way through all the Bridgerton cookbooks and this was my least favorite. I appreciate the metric conversions in the back of the book. Besides that, I didn’t find this book insightful or matching the Bridgerton vibe. First of all I would like to avoid using a microwave, that just makes me cringe in a cookbook. Cookbooks should teach you new ways of doing something. Placing a glass bowl over steaming water on the stove to temper chocolate is what I would want to see in a book related to Bridgerton. Also why is there a random blurb about homosexuality and how it was a “punishable offense“; this just makes me sad to read and random in a cookbook after a recipe for chocolate mousse cups. I wouldn’t recommend this Bridgerton cookbook, there are others that are astonishing and the photography is wonderful.
The Unofficial Bridgerton Cookbook is beautifully illustrated with gorgeous photos topped with plenty of recipes. The recipes contain food history, serving hints, or a backstory on how one of the Bridgerton characters could have served one of the recipes found in this cookbook.
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Royal Indulgence Biscuits with Gravy High Society Scones Cucumber Miniatures with the Lady's Clotted Cream Portia's Green Soup Lady Featherington's Society Sponge Cake The Prince Regent's Potato Plumpers Royal Wedding Oysters on the Half Shell Duchess Champagne Cocktail Debutante Punch
Recommend.
Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley
Going into this book, I was expecting it to be filled with very high class foods. And it was! It starts off with bakery items that sound delicious. A note, this book is not for anyone on any sort of diet, however it does capture the spirit of the period very well. The pictures are beautiful and will cause you to want to make everything. There is a vegetable section that does provide some recipes for a vegetarian, which was unexpected. The biggest section is the dessert section which is amazing!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute recipe book for Bridgerton fans.
There's some nice pictures of the recipes and information about each. The recipes themselves are pretty straightforward, but honestly not stuff I'd regularly make. The recipes seem fairly accurate for the time period. There's some nice recipes for tea time or snacking.
A fun cookbook. I liked the format for each recipe. The introduction to each recipe refers to the show Bridgerton (not the book series). The recipe follows and I especially enjoyed the history tidbit as the closing paragraph at the end of every recipe. This was tasty morsel of a history lesson.
The recipes itself are very modern recipes that cover tea, soups, drinks and main courses. Just enjoy fancifulness and have fun.
The cookbook includes 100 recipes inspired by Bridgerton for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and dessert. The recipes include a short introduction, an ingredient list, and numbered directions. However, around a fourth of the recipes include photos. I would have loved it if more recipes included photos as you have a clear idea of what the dish looks like, and you have an easier time telling if you would like to make it. That said, there are several recipes I would like to make, including Prudence's Breakfast Pudding, Cucumber Miniatures with the Lady’s Clotted Cream, Colin’s Favorite Corn Cakes, and Mango Curd Tarts Befitting Royalty. The cookbook would probably be nice for fans of Bridgerton, but the lack of photos does bring down the quality of the cookbook.
Thank you Netgalley and Adams Media for the ARC to read and review.
Well, for all you Bridgerton fans, here is a cookbook filled with Regency inspired foods to tide you over until the next season is ready for viewing. Breakfast, Luncheons, grand parties, and Afternoon teas are all covered here in this extensive cookbook. Very cute and very clever.
This cookbook was so much fun! I loved that there are actual historical recipes that you can't find very many places. It's also wonderful to see British recipes that you don't need a scale for which can be helpful. The section on recipes for tea time was my favorite and especially delightful. I recommend it for any Bridgerton fan!
This was okay. I love a novelty cookbook, but although I appreciated the little historical or food oriented blurbs on each page, very few recipes seem worthwhile. Many had a random character’s name thrown in front of them, like “Daphne’s Maiden Oats”…okay…
Glad I got it from the library, but not planning on buying or even making any of the recipes.
3.5 stars. Such a pretty pretty book. Of course, with Bridgerton on the title I was curious. And I’ve always wondered about the food they ate during that time. Not sure how historically accurate the recipes are here too but it was fun to read and look at the pictures and enjoy the little introduction to the food or chapter. So even if you aren’t a fan, it’s a nice cookbook to check out.
It's a fun read, a modernization of what could have been recipes during the Regency era. It was a lot of fun to read and I will surely try some of the recipes. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The Bridgerton Cookbook will delight fans with it's beautiful pictures, luscious recipes and wittiness! The recipes seem to fit the food that they'd eat. Probably not something you'd make everyday, but fun with some delicious results! Count me in!
I mean this cookbook is really gorgeous but I think the recipes needed to be fine tuned a little more. This cookbook is fun with varying levels of difficulty.
