Night Frights #2

The Lurking Lima Bean

Rate this book
In this second installment in the spooky and silly series that’s perfect for fans of Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a girl’s dinner comes back to haunt her!

Wolver Hollow is not a normal town. The adults are too busy shuffling off to work at the old coffin factory to notice or care, but the kids know all about monsters, ghosts, and strange lights in the sky. Strange things happen in Wolver Hollow. Creepy things.

Madeline Harper does not like lima beans and she’s not afraid to make that clear. But when she gets sent to bed for not eating her vegetables, she’ll find something far worse than her mother’s frustration. A lima bean scorned is a terrible thing and it will not stop until Madeline Harper eats her vegetables!

Madeline Harper refuses to eat her lima beans, and soon the entire town of Wolver Hollow is trying to convince her to EAT YOUR LIMA BEANS! Apparently the folks of Wolver Hollow are turned into Zombies from eating lima beans, and now it's up to Madeline and two others, Sally and Gilbert, who have not eaten any lima beans to save the entire town.

My 7 year old chose this book from the library and wanted me to read it to him. I ended up reading it to him, his brothers, and their friends as a read aloud. It was spooky and silly at the same time, and they all enjoyed it. I thought it was a fun one! Not groundbreaking children’s literature by any means, but a quick, fun read for all.

A cute sequel - with some familiar characters but also some new characters - and the same old spooky/goofiness! I liked the first one better - the image of the mustache driving a car will stick with me - but this one was a lot of fun to read. Perfect for young readers interested in a shorter chapter book (with a few pictures)!

Can already tell you that my favorite character in this series is the suspicious but helpful librarian. 😉
