A very talented Toucan juggles cans in this laugh-out-loud Level 1 Ready-to-Read!
Can Toucan juggle two cans? He can! What about three cans? Or four? Young readers will root for Toucan and his can juggling act in this silly story that ends with a colorful surprise!
Heidi didn’t want to be a writer when she grew up. In fact, after she graduated from college, she became a probation officer in Florida. It wasn’t until she was 28 years old that she gave in and joined the family business, publishing her first short story in a book called Famous Writers and Their Kids Write Spooky Stories. The famous writer was her mom, author Jane Yolen. Since then, she has published 20 books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children. Heidi lives and writes in Massachusetts on a big old farm with two houses.
Toucan tries to juggle cans – first two, then three…but can he juggle five cans? Simple, alliterative text has several words that have the ‘-an’ root – can, fan, can-can – with some rhyming. Fun retro animation-like art show a jungle setting with toucans, flamingos and other birds amid stylized plants. A silly, appealing reader.
Can toucan juggle two cans, or more? There were many puns and plays on words in this book, which was delightful for me, and language is simple enough for those just learning to read.
