Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood usually teaches children good lessons whether it’s in book or television form. Baking Day is a Pre-Level One book, which is meant to be a shared reading experience between a child and an experienced reader. This book is short, to the point, and appropriate for preschool age children.
Daniel, Prince Wednesday, and Baker Aker are baking Trolley cookies. Along the way, each character makes a mistake and has to figure out how to fix it. This book is good for helping kids learn about the baking process, but it also teaches them that baking may not always go exactly the way they expect. It’s important to know how to adapt and to fix any mistakes that happen along the way.
I read this book with my preschooler and quickly saw the potential value of rereading it. We bake throughout the year, but bake more through the winter months. Since it’s likely that we may experience some mishaps during the baking process this year I plan to have this book on hand so that we can read and discuss it before and after baking.
