Lucy Carpenter knows she needs to help and has to get that rifle stock onto her shoulder as soon as possible so she could aim, but she couldn’t get her arms to function. Instead, she just sits there, frozen stiff, as bullets pinged downwards, splintering rocks in the wall right beside her.Outnumbered, outmanned, but not quite outgunned, Lucy and bounty hunter Leon McEvoy already expect that bringing Devon “The Ghost” Masterson and his gang to justice would be the greatest challenge of their unusual partnership.Lucy just wants to save her little sister. The worst of men, there are no depths he won’t stoop to for the sake of his bloody legacy. But can a ghost ever be brought to justice? And when the pasts of Leon and Lucy collide and old wounds are torn open, how will the pair work together? Each novel in the Western Justice Riders series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.
You might remember Lucy and Jennifer from Jonah Silk. They were the lone survivors when the Red Star gang destroyed their town. A lot of walking later they end up in a small town where Lucy has to work as a prostitute, just to provide for Jenny. When Devon and his gang come to town, it looks like nothing will be normal again. Then, when Devon murders one of the other girls, Lucy knows she needs to grab Jenny and leave. But first she needs money and she makes the mistake of stealing from Devon. Almost caught, but not quite, she runs smack dab into Leon. Leon is a bounty hunter who has come to town for the bounty that is on Devon's head. Devon gets away and kidnaps Jenny in the process, figuring to sell her to the Apache. This makes for a fast moving adventure!
This book contains a good story line and covers the hardships folks had to overcome when settling the west. There was plenty of action and suspense. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys westerns.
Fast moving and exciting book. From the very beginning I found it hard to put this book down. Lucy and Jennifer was walking through the Arizona desert weak and barely able to move without food or water at the very beginning.
Lucy worked in a brothel. The man kidnapped her sister t because she had taken his money. Lu. cy and 2 friends try to save her. They have many adventures.
