I never believed in magic.
Until I found out I was a witch.

I was just a regular college student, working double shifts at the diner to pay for classes, and hoping I could help my injured brother find his place in the world.

Then the witches came. They ripped me from my life, took me to Primrose Academy, and told me I was one of them. By the end of the semester, they claim they’ll have me wielding my powers to uncover ancient secrets, and maybe even to help the people I love.

But before I have a chance to kindle that spark, a wolf-shifter guardian stalks straight up to me on the night of the Choosing Ceremony and tells me I’m coming with him. Luke is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. He’s determined to protect me.

And he swears I’m his mate.

Excuse me, what? No one told me about this part. Now, I’m wrapped up in some ancient contract I never agreed to. And the worst part is, the restless, rugged shifter is making me start to question if I would walk away even if I could. I might fight my passions, but I’ll never make it three nights in his bed without surrendering.

And if I surrender to Luke, I’ll have to abandon Primrose Academy forever, along with my new friends, my magic training, and all hope of helping my brother.

As if that choice isn’t hard enough, there’s something else stalking the school. Something even more dangerous than a wolf…

All things come with a price

I found myself completely captivated by the magic of this book and I couldn’t be happier. I love the fresh ideas around shifters and witches, and the magic they bring together. I enjoyed the characters and I hope they each get their own book, well the gaggle of girlfriends anyway and the guardians. I’m not too keen on the mean girls, but what’s a good romance without some group who thinks they’re better than the heroines. The author did such a fantastic job with this book that I wished the next one was already available. I can’t wait to read it!

Even if i'm not a big fan of the cover, the story was interesting and it had good characters.I tried to give more then 2 stars, but i couldn't because i thought everything happened too fast and there were a few things i disliked.

Overall, the story was good and i liked the how it started ,yet in my mind i thought it could have been much better.

I found this book reads with a fast pace. Clearly it was a page turner. I enjoyed the entertainment and the intense suspense. At times there was humor that helped keep the light moments of the book going. I liked that a a lot. The entertainment was outstanding. The highs of the book was nail biting for me. The drama was very emotional in some ways. Bella had to come to some realization very quick. There was a lot of action as well. The fight scenes was very detailed. This helped me imagine the scenes as they played out from the book. There were some bloody moments from the book, but that comes with the theme of the book. Luke and Bella are a cute couple in the book. Their romance plays out as a steamy read. I liked that part of the book a lot. To me the writer did a good job with the book.

I am a big fan of this author’s writing style and this newest story doesn’t disappoint. Bella just feels ordinary and a little out of place in life but when she is told she is a witch the possibilities seem endless. She is whisked away to school for witches and is selected as a mate for the Guardian Wolf Shifter, Luke, who is sexy AF. Luke doesn’t have a lot of time to forge the mate bond but he is willing to do whatever it takes. The chemistry between Bella and Luke is off the charts and I can’t wait to delve into the series further!!

I love it! Bella has that determination & love for her family that she is going to take care of everything. She is barely hanging on, working in a diner, trying to learn to be a nurse at a tiny collage. Her apartment is just about as tiny as one room to be her living room, bedroom & dining room rolled into one. She is trying to be a nurse to help her brother, Jon. He is in a wheelchair & can no longer walk by a chain of events she sees as her fault. When she was a teenager, she tried to sneak out a window to go to a party. She fell, the doctors were amazed she survived the 3 story fall she took. Her mother used most of the money that would have sent Jon to college, to pay for the 2 surgeries that repaired Bella's arm. To try to get an education Jon joined the army. He got into a car accident while he had been there that crippled him & put him is the wheelchair. Now she is wanting to do anything she can to make things right. After one of her late shifts she decides to take a short cut through the cemetery & sees someone following her. He almost doesn't look human. She runs, but he manages to catch up to her. She starts to panic, then she sees vines wrap around him to allow her to escape. As he is getting loose a woman steps out in front of her. She raises her hand & says a word, Bella sees the thing that had been chasing her run away. Then she tells her she would have saved her sooner but she had to be sure she was a witch. They go to Bella's apartment so they can talk privately. Her name is Eve, she starts telling Bella about a school called Primrose Academy. It is a school for witches. Bella is not too trusting. When she mentions something about healing it sparks her interest. If she could heal Jon...
She asks how she would pay, looking around, she has no money. Eve tells her it would be free, she would have room & board. Now she really has her interested. She leaves everything she knows to go to this school. Eve takes her up the mountain in a horse drawn carriage, to what looks like a castle. The ride there has been a little spooky so she is a little nervous when they get there. They go into the courtyard & get out. Eve gives her a quick walk through & takes her to a small area & tells her she will be a Bellwether & stay here. Eve takes her to a kind of dorm room & introduces her to a girl called Cori. She is going to be Bella's roommate & asks her to get her settled in & help her learn her way around. She meets a few other girls who come in from their classes. A few of them are not too nice, they consider themselves better than the others because their parents went to the school as well. Kendell is one of those. Anya, is one of the nicer girls & is willing to help Bella get on the right track. It turns out there is a ceremony tonight. It happens the first night every month. The witches all get scrubbed clean, "purified". Not perfume, deodorant, lotions or anything with a scent is allowed. They put on white robe & are taken out into the courtyard to give their pledge. Cori tells her The Lord Protector is allowed to choose a girl to have if he wants one. But she tells her it doesn't matter because he never comes. This time while they are giving the pledge, Bella is listening to the others to give the right words. She notices something is coming, no one else seems to feel it. The Lord Protector, Luke steps into the courtyard to look around. He walks around the girls until he stops in front of Bella & chooses her. Headmistress Hart addresses him, & asks if he might choose another girl. She tells him, Bells is new & doesn't know their laws. He says he will wait, explain things to her. He would come for her tomorrow. His wolf is not happy. Luke is a shifter. His wolf wants it's mate now. He says soon. Headmistress Hart tells Bella she will spend 3 nights in his bed, then she can choose. She can be his mate or refuse & come back. But she says they never come back. Bella is upset, she came to learn, for Jon, not be a mate! The next day as they are going to their classes, getting to know each other better, Bella asks about the wifi codes. She tried to text Jon & couldn't get any service. She is told to protect the school there isn't any communication. She is very upset, She had left so suddenly she hadn't had time to talk to her brother at all. He has no idea where she is or if she is all right. Plus she wants to check up on him. They tell her she can call down in the village. Later thsy go to other classes. Luke isn't too thrilled about it either. He didn't want a mate, but he feels the mate bond & wants her. That night she is through the maze garden to wait for him. On the way through the forest to his house, Luke senses something. A hellhound! He gets them into a cave & tells her what is going on. She says somethings & seals the cave shut interwoven vines. He starts talking to her & when he finds out how little she has been told about him & the protectors he shows her his other form. She discovers he is a wolf. What surprises both of them is she isn't frightened. Since they aren't getting out for a while they curl up on the cave floor to help keep her warm. His body temperature runs hot so she won't be shivering. The next morning she goes back to school to study more. She finds out that the great library that they are supposed to defend had been broken into last night. It wasn't even a good try. There was a window broken & muddy paw prints. Bella is wondering if it is the hell hound that had been hunting them last night. She & the other students go into the library with to help reset the protection wards to keep whatever tried to get in, out. Bella & some other girls from her dorm are to clean it up & go to class. She knows everyone is wondering why she is back in class instead of with the Protector. She is a little worried feeling the pull to him but she is going to fight it with everything she has. She has to finish her training to get her magic in order to help Jon. She learns a few more things as well. The reason she sees in black & white for a while after she uses magic is it comes with a price. Not everyone has the same effect on them. There are Fae but had been exiled years ago beyond the veil, & that is why they have to guard the magic spell books in the library. There are many dark beings who could do horrible things if they got the knowledge. The Protectors protected the witches & the castle that surrounds them. She goes back to him again, this time they make it to his house. Luke tries to get her to ease into it talking to her with a drink. She sees he is a talented woodworker & has a lovely place. He wants her to choose him on her own. They both feel the attraction. He has her almost undressed but wants her to make the choice. He asks if she wants him to claim her & she says no. He slows it down, & lets her sleep with his wolf instead. His wolf is wanting him to claim his mate. He again tells him to wait. The next day back in class she finds it a little hard to focus. She is sure the only reason she is so crazy for him is because there is a spell on her. She is afraid tonight she will be unable to resist him & be unable to go back to school. Later during a spell gone wrong, one of the girls gets hurt & Eve has a classmate bring her a healing book. She sees the girls arm healed & quickly decides to take the book. She sneaks a button from her uniform into the book. The book is returned the library. Later, before she has to go to Luke she gets into the library & uses the spell to reunite her dress with it's button. She finds the healing book with the dress. She takes the book & runs out to the meeting place early. Afraid she will be caught she decides to find his house on her own. Having used the spell earlier she is unable to see in color & gets lost. 3 girls come looking for her to get the book back without getting her in trouble. She runs into some man who wants the book. She will not give it up. The girls catch up with her as the man tries to take it. There is a hell hound with him. She calls for Luke in her mind when she sees them getting hurt trying to help her. Luke hears her & comes to her aid. During the struggle she keeps the book but a page gets ripped out. Bella tries to save them doing more magic & tires herself out. Luke gets the girls back to the school & Bella to his house. She tells him she won't quit school. He tells her if she doesn't want to be with him it will be alright. She tells him she does want to be with him but she wants to learn magic as well. He tells her that would be fine. Now she will be claimed. She is his mate. The next day they go back to the school, he tells the headmistress if any claimed witch wants to continue her training it should be allowed. It is agreed. The book id returned to the Library. They go into the village to call Jon so she can talk to him. She tells him why she had wanted to be a nurse was to help him. She finds out he never blamed her for what happened. He has things fine now. She & Luke & a few other are keeping a closer watch on things because of the page that was stolen. One of the girls that had been there had seen it. She has a photographic memory & with a spell can put it on paper. It is about bringing back the raven king & opening the veil. So they will just need to be more alert. It is a good story!

Bella is a college student studying in the medical field to help her brother who is in a wheelchair from an accident. Bella blames herself for her brothers injury. She was trying to slip out of her home to hang out with her friends when she fell from a high window and was taken to the hospital. The bills ate up all her mothers saving so there was no money for her brother to go to college so he joined the military and was injured. Bella works at a diner and takes as many shifts as possible, when she gets off work late she takes a short cut through a cemetery and is chased by something inhuman. When she runs into a woman who explains that Bella is a witch and she can go to the Primrose Academy free of charge she decides to give the school a chance. Who knows, maybe she can find a way to heal her brother with magic. Her first night at Primrose she is part of a ceremony that should be no big deal but in comes one with the guardian protectors and he chooses Bella stating she is his mate. There is something evil trying to break into the the academy and Bella may find herself in the way of what that evil wants. Will Luke be able to protect her from the danger? I love this book. Tasha Black does it again. This is a great read with wonderful characters and an original story.

A Paranormal Romance/Academy romance.

Bella wants to do nothing more than heal her brother, who suffered a disability after an accident.
When she learns that she is a witch, and that witches can heal, she’s more than willing to go to Primrose Academy to learn as much as possible.
She is shocked to be chosen by a shifter, and determined to fight against the fate that seems to ensure that she will never learn how to help her brother...

This PNR is, like most of the author’s books, an entertaining trip into the paranormal world. Bella is young, and completely unaware of the magical world around her. Her decisions therefore are typically naïve, making sure you want to strangle the heroine or at least smack some sense into her!

Academy romances are often a little confusing. Most of the time they feature adult heroes and heroines, which means that you sit there in confusion as to why they have uniforms and experience traditional school type situations. It’s fairly obvious that Harry Potter has a lot to answer for!
This one does a fairly decent job of explaining it away as a magical thing.

An enjoyable read for fans of PNR and Academy romance.

Bella was an ordinary girl in college whose only aim in life was to become a nurse so she could care for her disabled brother until she found out she was a witch. Then she was suddenly transported to Primrose Academy where she is told in just a semester she will be able to wield her own magic. However, before she has a chance to do any of the things she wants to do one of the sexy wolf-shifter guardians walks right up to her in a special Choosing Ceremony and tells her she is coming with him as I am his mate. Luke might be determined to protect her but is she able to deny their mate bond and stick to her dreams?

I enjoyed this start to the series with suitable levels of danger and drama merged into a story of attraction and love between mates. I loved the way that Luke did everything that he could to care for and support Bella and how that fed into the end of the story. I can't wait to read about how they develop things as the series continues and the story of the witches, guardians and The Order develops. Easy to read and understand. Contains some sexual content.

Ms. Black introduces us to a world of witches, warlords, shifts and hellhounds.
A place filled with magic and powers.
Protectors and guardians and good vs. evil.
And of course love and mates.
Bella is plucked out of everything she knows and is thrust into the magical school.
Where she will learn to enhance her skills and also protect the school.
Bella is thoughtful and kind.
She’s got an innocence about her.
But guilt weighs heavily on her heart and mind.
I also really liked Luke.
He’s loyal and brave.
He takes being a protector very seriously.
But is not looking for or wanting a mate.
Until he scents Bella.
Luke and Bella have a connection because of being mates.
But I love the bond they formed before they even went through with the ritual of being mates.
I liked how they had a give and take in their relationship.
And how Luke modified and changed things to make Bella happy and truly content.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this enchanting new series.

Mediocre

EDITED: What book did all these 5 star reviewers read?!?!?!? I gave 2 stars, and that was GENEROUS

The cover art almost made me go past this.. it's awful, like a man that used to be hot is now naked and homeless. YIKES.

I was excited for a school of magic, BUT- there was no real focus on that.

I was excited about the Raven king mystery, BUT- nothing resolved there by end of book.

I didn't really feel the chemistry between the two characters all the way to the ending, she bonded more with Cori.

The author set up many interesting things, but I guess they will be resolved in later books. Sadly this was not good enough for me to care about a later conclusion.

There was nothing special here.

I HAVE to stop grabbing this author's books. This must be number 4 or 5 that I have read and they are ALL like this:
-interesting plot on blurb
-highlights of potentially interesting things
-obsession between the mc
-HEA-all other plot points forgotten.
I know if I were that author I would stop just PRODUCING books and actually focus on a COMPLETE and cohesive book.

Tasha Black does it again with another phenomenal, contemporary PNR fiction page-turner! Somehow each new story tops the previous 5-star must read and “Wolf Spell” is no different! The first amazing, offering in the brand new ‘Shifters Bewitched’ world! ... Always an original, never a copy-cat storyline, woven together with vivid descriptions, relatable characters and clever dialogue that have them practically jumping off the pages! ... The steamy chemistry between the H/h, Luke & Bella had me glued to my seat not wanting to stop! ... Even tho I always volunteer to read this author’s books prior to the release date (coz I can’t wait to get my hands on them!) it is without any outside influences. So yes, I can honestly recommend this to 18+ adult fans of fiction & now I can’t wait for more once again, but of course I will ; )

Bella & Luke

It didn't matter how hard she had to work, she'd finish college and get a good job so she could help her brother. When the chance came to do more, if it was true, she had to take it. No one told her on her first night at "witches school" she'd be chosen as the mate of a school protector. She didn't even know there was such a thing.

He couldn't make her choose him. He had a short time to build the mate bond with her. It had never been his priority but now--things were different.

A great beginning to the series. I have to admit my fave PNR character is a werewolf. Yay, here we are. Can Luke make Bella feel the same way? All the while protecting the library from an enemy that could change the world. Can they work together?

Steam, great characters, a peek at some possible new romances, and enemies that they must all fight.

Tasha Black has done it again! I love the direction Ms. Black is going in...she just keeps getting better and better! It's wonderful to see how she's changing direction in her writing for some of her newer stuff! I am loving how she is evolving as a writer! Bella and Luke...what a fantastic story! I love the way she develops Bella's character with her newly discovered magical powers. Bella is a loving sister and wants only to help her brother. Enter Luke. Yes please! Bella tries to resist the mate bond but in the end realizes she doesn't really want to! Bella and Luke must work together to save magic school and it brings them closer and closer. I love the dynamics between Bella and Luke and the surprise twist to the story at the end! Another winner and a super way to begin a new series! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Reed and Cori's story!

Luke and Bella could not be more different. Bella finds herself suddenly in a world of witches and magic. Sent to a school for witches, she's suddenly thrust into the mysterious traditions for protecting knowledge and forced into making some incredible choices. This is a new to me author so I didn't have any preconceived notions about her writing style. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I think the author did a good job setting up the world and explaining the purpose of the witches and guardians. My only complaint is that I feel the story is short. I'd love more of the story between Bella and Luke. I look forward to seeing where the overarching story line leads in her next book. A quite enjoyable story.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am intrigued by this new world. This great blend of fantasy, paranormal, romance and even a bit of adventure and mythical mystery. With characters that are relatable this engages the mind on several levels providing a taste of anxious anticipation, wonder and emotion. I found myself trying to help (and scold) Bella with her decision making. Absolutely love Luke, not just for his charisma but for his patience with Bella. Enjoyed this and can't wait to learn more about the Primrose Academy tutees and their uniqueness. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a good read and an enticing start to this series. Bella and Luke were likable and the draw of attraction between then was intense. The world building and writing were well done and that made his book interesting, engaging and easy to read. Heat, excitement, emotion, drama and tension are blended together to make a potent mixture that keeps you invested and turning pages. I really liked it. I'm electing to post a volitional review.

Wolf Spell

These are wonderfully intriguing characters. I always enjoy books by this author and this one is a very good example of why Ms. Black is one of my "go to" authors. I'm kept so immersed in the storyline and completely sad when I get to the end. The world she creates is familiar and at the same time otherworldly. Definitely want the next book in this series! I can highly recommend this as worthy of every minute of your reading time.

I'm not much of a fan of new adult romances or stories featuring magical academies-- this has both and managed to keep me captivated. Bella isn't as angsty as most new age heroines and Luke is alpha with out the hole. The magical landscape is creative and different, the story and romantic relationships develop at a believable pace. The only overused aspect of the story; the mean-girl aristocrat harassing the talented, but mundane born heroine.

Ok, this novel was so-so for me. I like the idea of witches that have to give something for their magic like a deal. Shifters sign me up as well. But this was a college settling of the academy and they still have mean girls. I really didn't like the whole mean girl thing.

Also, I would have loved more world-building. Why are only men that are shifters or women are witches? It didn't explain things well at all.

I want more…

Bella being thrown into this situation of going to witch school without any preamble made it hard to get into the story at first. But the plot became more clear as the tale progressed.i really liked Bella though I felt sorry for her at first, she became a stronger personality by the end. Luke’s resistance to take a mate but then falling for Bella was sweet and sexy and I liked his forward thinking. Good read.

A woman struggling to finish her nursing degree, then a discovery of hidden talents and the promise of a new future, a fantastical future. A guardian protector. A threat looming. This is the first book of a new series which is a page turner and a romance, a paranormal tale. Another bravo for Tasha Black.

I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An interesting start.

A slow burn, fast read, with a little mystery thrown in. The plot line is easy to follow and sets you up for the next book.
You have Bella who is a very foolish and naive, find out she is a witch. Luke is a Guardian who doesn't want a mate. They must overcome their own trials to realize they are stronger together.

Incomplete story.

Too many quick decisions and little development, but my big complaint is dropping a story in the middle simply to sell more books.

There are few excuses for a cliffhanger but what I expect will be a whole series of non-endings isn't something I'll happily fall for.

Awesome new fantasy book!

Exceptional narrative development. The immersive storytelling effectively transported both the reader and protagonist into the magical realm. The heroine's concurrent discovery of this new world enhanced the reader's experience. I highly recommend this book and eagerly look forward to the next book.

Very nice story

A mix of shifters and magical witches at Primrose school actually was a good story. Throw in an evil warlock who wants their magic and this became an excellent book. My only regret was I needed more of the story between the two MC. Can't wait to read the next books.
