The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us to pray. In the Psalms: The School of Prayer study program, discover how these sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God's loving and wondrous deeds for us.
In this 11-session study, presenters Jeff Cavins, Tim Gray, and Sarah Christmyer show you how to establish a deeply personal dialogue with God through the Psalms. Learn how to meditate fruitfully on the capitvating words of the Psalms using lectio divina and study the many ways the Psalms foretell the life and mission of Jesus.
After twelve years as a Protestant pastor, Jeff returned to the Catholic Church under the guidance of Bishop Paul Dudley. His conversion story, one of the best known and inspiring stories of its kind, is chronicled in the best-selling book, My Life on the Rock.

The Great Adventure presents the entire sweep of the Bible in a way that is easy to understand and genuinely fun. Its unique Bible Timeline learning system has revolutionized Catholic Bible Study for hundreds of thousands of Catholics since 1995.

EXCELLENT introduction to the Psalms! I've always loved the Psalms, but this study has reintroduced them to me, which doesn't happen that often anymore at my age. It wasn't so much the material was brand new as it was that they pointed out subtleties in the arrangement of the Psalter itself, the different types of psalms, and the language and various techniques by the writers which opened my eyes to treasures right in front of me. Maybe everyone else already knows these things, but for me they were revelations. Now the Divine Office is new again as is the daily liturgy. I've passed the CDs over to my husband for now but would like to listen to them again before returning them to my friend. Most highly recommended.
March 4, 2016: Actually started this back in February, but didn't realize this was on Goodreads. I have done The Great Adventure Bible Timeline 24 Part Study DVDs many years ago -- back when we were still homeschooling. I want to do it again. It is a great way to read and learn the Bible historically. This time I'm hoping to drag (just kidding) my husband through it with me. Actually I think he will enjoy it too. We will both get more out of it doing it together. But first I want to finish this series on the Psalms which I was doing with a group. Had to drop out because I'm now babysitting on Tuesdays, but they loaned me the CDs so I can continue on my own, by listening and doing the workbook. I never knew how much I didn't know about the Psalms. Great study!
This study changed the way I experience the Responsorial Psalm at Mass (for the better)! I pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily, and now I feel even more connected to the very same prayers Jesus prayed when he walked upon the Earth.
