There were sicknesses in this world even holy water couldn't wash away.

In vicious nights, beautiful monsters lay.
Some with faces known, some ready to play.
Unsure of a friend, unsure of a foe,
Be certain of nothing you think you know,

Because what once enters Winworth,
never leaves again.

Skylar Blackwood thought she knew what monsters looked like.
But in Winworth, nothing is what it seems.

Not the arrival of a stranger with eyes that see too much, and lips that taste like danger.
Not the young women who begin disappearing in the night.
And certainly not the people in the sleepy town she grew up in that begin to turn on one another.

One truth is undeniable, something wicked is loose in Winworth.
No one is safe, and trusting the wrong person could cost Skylar everything.

Trapped between the two worlds as secrets start to unravel, what little sanity Skylar has left threatens to shatter, leaving her with more questions than answers.

Turns out, real monsters are never what they seem.

APATHY is the first book in the Secrets of Winworth series with dark themes that might be triggering to some readers.

L.K. Reid is a dark romance author who hates slow walkers and people being mean for no reason.

In her opinion, Halloween should be a public holiday, and she also has a small obsession with all things historical—especially Greek mythology. During high school, she wanted to be an archaeologist, and ended up studying law, but obviously neither one of those professions worked out.

If she isn’t writing, she’s most probably watching horror movies, listening to music, reading, or plotting upcoming books.

What the fuck did I just read and where in the fuckery is the next book!! GAH!! I don't even know how to even go about writing up this review!!

I'm kind of sitting here trying to work my brain around all the happenings which occurred in this book, this book took me on such a unique journey that I don't think I was even prepared, I wasn't ready for half the shit this book threw at me.

Twists and turns, so much left hidden and not revealed, the frustrating thing with that is god my anticipation levels have spiked up for that next book!!

5 Darkness Rings Stars.

Apathy is, by far, to me, the author’s best book she has written. My review will be vague to avoid any spoilers. If you want to read a book about the occult, Apathy is for you.

If you saw the world burning, would you let it burn, or would you try to extinguish the flames? Or would you be the one that set it on fire?

From that moment on, I was hooked—one of my favorite quotes in the book.

Winworth is like no other town; it's packed with a ton of secrets, Evil, creepiness, and betrayal. Our Girl Skylar seems to be stuck in the middle of it and to find out the secrets.

Apathy is one of the most intense books I have read; it's also dark and complex. Skylar is one of my favorite heroines. My heart broke for her from the beginning. She is just surviving, not thriving, and covering her pain with drugs. No one sees her for her until Ash. I did question everyone in this book, especially ones closer to her.

I literally was on the edge of my seat several times, and that ending!!!!!! Never saw it coming, and it left me wanting more. I can't wait to see what happens next.

"𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙞𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙪𝙥 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚"

The opening line, if you like reading book involving, occult, with Founding Families, thrilling and dark romance then this is it!
I was hooked from the start and couldn't put it down.

The book starts with our heroine in this small town 'Winworth' but
Winworth is like no other town; it's packed with Secrets, Evil, creepiness, Danger and Betrayal, Secret society, and Murderers.
It is inhabited by monsters hiding behind beautiful faces. Our Heroine 'Skylar' seems to be stuck in the middle of it all.

"If you saw the world burning, would you let it burn, or would you try to extinguish the flames? Or would you be the one that set it on fire?"

It's Intense, It's dark, It's depraved, It's complex. With twists and turns, you couldn't Imagine.
I had a ton of theories from the first page, while some of them were right others blew my mind.
I questioned every character in this book.

"𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙡, 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚 "
The push and pull between Our Heroine and the anti-hero(whom I fell for pretty hard and fast) is breathtaking. Their relation is so complex you couldn't help but root in and out for them. Their connection was immediate and neither know how to react.

'𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙙. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙣."
And don't even get me started with the Ending!!!! I scream read the last 30% of it. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

Thanks to L.K.Reid & Wildfire Marketing Solutions for generously providing me with an advance copy. In exchange for an honest review.

A dark city plunged in a world full of mystery that reeks of death and despair. Ms Reid sets her story in this hopeless background, her words brings to life a sense of loss and perdition, her vivid writing portrays a powerful tale full of feels.

~𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙞𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙪𝙥 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 ~

The author has no qualms in delivering an harsh reality, nothing pretty waits for you in this sick sick world and yet it’s impossible not to be sucked in, the small thread at the beginning of this story will pull you in until you’re in the middle of a scary tale, surrounded by centuries old secrets, murders and depravation, and just like a drug gets you addicted to its sweet oblivion, you’ll be hooked to this. The narrative tempo so in tune with the ominous atmosphere pervading the pages, it’s like an eerie tune softly whispered whose call you can’t escape no matter how afraid you might be, you must follow its call.

I was scared senseless, sometimes disgusted others angry while reading this story and I loved every line, I couldn’t predict what would come next and I kept questioning everything. Bravo Ms Reid for giving us such an amazing experience. I’m left hanging over that cliff salivating for what will come next, I’m coveting more of Winworth.

This was my first time reading LK Reid but it definitely won’t be the last, I’m just at the beginning of my charming journey.

Twisted and overly prosy

Mix elite founding families with cult, secrets and ritual, and a harrowing tale of turmoil, deception, and power is cast. Even the progenies of that society are bound, caught up in duty and exclusivity, the obligation requires of them. And besides those, the plot complexity is further enriched with a revenge plot and stalker, gradually unfolding with the unexpected just to keep the reader questioning.

Sklar, despite a privileged child of one of the elite, is closed, maintaining distance from others, and very obviously emotionally traumatized. She is both sweet and feisty. And she experiences an immediate connection to new student, Ash. Ash is broody, sardonic and by appearances detached, and also has his demons. Their connection is electric.

The character development in this story paints unique, tangible personalities where the strength is the feelings they inspire and their presence, and less about their physical traits. Every character's contribution has significance and is integrated, puppeteered in the story's disturbing canvas and shrouded in mystery.

Definitely a dark story -- psychologically dark -- arising from its grittiness and what is hidden, some taboo subject matter, and copious adaptation (i.e., "vices") techniques. It is delivered at a slow to medium burn pace, eliciting a heavy degree of angst.

The gradual pealing away of the plot is tense and alluring, but at times, the story falters with too much inner expression and thoughts, personal commentary and wisdom to the point of feeling repetitious and undeservedly hampering the pace. Also, it was generally prosy, lots of telling with too little balance of dialogue.

Spice level is low (1/5) and works to the degree that story gives more the vibe of being centered around intrigue, relationships (caustic or not), and dark pretense. Still, the chemistry between the two main characters can be felt.

Overall, the beauty of this book is dual: the creative and unique storyline and the feelings it evokes -- sorrow, disquiet with flashes of character connectedness. It is twisted and worthy of a read, but stylistically not as engaging as it could have been. The weak writing is a detractor to a potentially good story.

6 WTF stars

THIS IS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE!!
To think this is just her third book... it amaze me.

Apathy is more than I could ever dream of....

THE INTENSITY,

THE DEEPNESS,

THE DARKNESS,

THE DEVRAVITY.....

Each emotion, each action, each word hit me hard.
Four days after finished it, i'm still stuck in Winworth.

Winworth is the town no one would ever live in.
It's filled with secrets.
It's creeepy.
It is inhabited by monsters hiding behind  beautiful faces.
Evil things happen there.
And Skylar is in the center of all of it.

There’s no way to escape from it.

To run away from Winworth.

There’s no space for love, no matter how strong are her feelings toward the new guy whose eyes speak of violence and anger.

There’s no trust, when the closer people are the ones who lie better.

L.K Reid created sucha complex web of deception and evilness.

From the beginning each word gonna drag you deep in the story, leaving you clueless and eager for answers.

I loved everything about this story!!!
And i'm not really able to put into words how much I loved.
But trust me on this and READ IT!!!

PS. I understood why Apathy needed to be out before Oblivion (my poor little heart 🖤🖤).
If you don’t know what i'm talking about go read Ricochet and Equilibrium now before Apathy' release!!!

DNF.

Word repetition killed this book for me.

In the 9% (36 pages) the word “started” was unnecessarily used 29 times (I counted).

Sometimes it was used 3-4 times in a single paragraph. It felt like something an editor should have caught.

Example (and the paragraph that finally made me DNF) -

“somebody started pulling me backward. I started thrashing against them, hitting their sides, trying to pull away their hand, while a scream lodged inside my throat, and my eyes started watering from the lack of oxygen. Whoever the person was, they wore gloves, and they were much taller than my five-foot-six. Panic gripped my insides, and my stomach started turning”

WHY?!

Example of simple editing -

“somebody pulled me backwards suddenly, I thrashed against them, hitting their sides, trying to pull their hand away, while a scream lodged inside my throat, my eyes watered from the lack of oxygen. Whoever the person was, they wore gloves, and they were much taller than my five-foot-six. Panic gripped my insides, and my stomach turned”

There’s just no excuse for throwing in the same word 29 TIMES IN 36 PAGES. Seriously, get a fucking thesaurus.

Sacrifici, antichi rituali, segreti peccaminosi, passioni perverse.

I don't think I would have actually managed to finish this if it hadn't been so easy to skim. The reason is was so easy was because Skylar, the heroine, had a bunch of poetic, existential thoughts that I didn't care about and were irrelevant to the plot. I'd have been super bored if I bothered to read them all.

I might have been more interested in this book in the hands of a different author, but the way this was written just wasn't for me. For one, some things were pure shock value. Like the fact that Okay, you just want to be edgy. The real edge was in the fact that her brother was obviously copping a feel while undressing her for bed while she was drugged up, because WHY would any brother do that?

I also don't buy that Skylar had to research the town to find out what was happening. She grew up in one of the prominent families and had NO IDEA? They should have groomed her to accept it from a young age. Then your job would be so much easier, you dumb culty jerks.

The romantic development was surprisingly lacking for a book of this length, and the fact that the love interest dropped the L word. I love toxic romances and I love messy, fucked-up heroines, but this just wasn't my jam. The writing wasn't good enough for me to overlook those issues, and the tenses weren't consistent. I did want to find out if I was correct in guessing the twists, and I was, so this gets an extra star for entertainment value. But I don't think I'll be reading the sequels, even though this ended on a hell of a cliffhanger.

A p a t h y is book 1 in a new series "secrets of winworth"

So if you've read this author previously then you know the style of dark and twisty and secretive she can deliver and this was no different. I'm left with questions goddam it, questions!

"There were sicknesses in this world even holy water couldn't wash away."

Skylar lives in the town of Winworth which is full of mystery, secrets, lies and unsolved crime. She is suffering through abuse and grief and turns to alcohol and drugs as a crutch to try and numb the pain.

Ash, a new guy in town soon has her attention, falling right into his hands. Ash is in town for revenge and his plans include taking Skylar down. Incoming feelings....Will his plans be derailed?

Vagueness in full effect here so I don't give away any spoilers but I will say I'm an Ash fan. So that means he will probably be short lived because, you know, LK. Also Dylan gives off hella creepy vibes...he will end up being the knight in shining armour, you just watch.

Keep in mind this is book 1 so your signature LK Reid cliffy is in full effect! No wrapped up tight with a pretty bow in sight.

'I was alive, but I wasn’t living. I was touched, but never understood. I was loved, but never really seen."

L.K has done it again. This woman never disappoints me ever. Apathy is another amazing dark read. This one is one I wasn't expecting at all. I didn’t know where this book was going, I just felt like something was creeping up on me. L.K likes to shock her readers and keeps everything close to her chest and that's what she’s done with Apathy. This book has so many different elements to it. All the way through I couldn't wrap me head around what I was reading. I love nothing more than Secret Society and Cults. LK has outdone herself with this one.

This is a dark story, Skylar stories is one I've never read before. It's an uncomfortable read at times, so be aware. Skylar is going through something that is unpleasant and intense to read. It’s pretty heartbreaking.
She is a young woman, living in the town of Winworth, nothing is as it seems. Things are happening and no one can understand why or how they are happening.

Her family and town hold many secrets. The mystery to this book is gripping. The not knowing killed me when reading it.
Skylar lives a dark life, but she's not truly living though, she just numbs the pain with drugs. Until Ash comes along. He shine his light on her and she starts to see Winworth for what it truly is.

If I write anymore I will ruin it for you lol.

This book is definitely a MUST READ.

I can not wait for the next book. I can't wait to have some bloody answers.

Phenomenal!!! This book is a must read!

This book immediately sucked me in right from the start I read this story from cover to cover in one sitting there was no sleep for me and holy hell I LOVED it! The suspense is strong the mystery the emotions the twists and turns and a shocking plot twist at the end that I didn’t see coming I was truly left with my jaw on the floor! I love the characters so much Skyler is so broken she truly just wants to be free to live and love not be controlled by her family some messed up stuff has happened to her and she is literally drowning. Ash comes to town he’s new in school and is mysterious sexy and carries a give no fucks attitude that Skyler is immediately drawn too there is so much chemistry between these two it’s intense they fall for each other fast and hard but Ash is carrying a secret that could destroy everything they have together. And there’s a killer on the loose and it looks like he has his sight set on Skyler there’s a huge secret that her family is keeping from her and it’s all coming to head ! You guys this book is amazing you have to read it there is so much going on in this book I don’t want to give anything away but sheesh this story blew my ever loving mind ! That ending I didn’t see it coming not even a little this is definitely L.K. Reid at her best !

I am so confused by all of the 4 and 5 star reviews.
I'm only 40% through and I'm struggling big time. SO MUCH unnecessary description, I've been skimming a lot.
Like, how many times do we need to be reminded of how depraved/creepy/spooky the place is?! But it's taking faaar too long to explain why.
Nah I'm bored.

I finished reading at midnight and I’m trying to write this review to avoid falling asleep… about to dream of crows, spooky fog, and hooded people chasing me. Welp! 😩Whenever you have secret societies/cults, satanic rituals, blood sacrifices, it’s sort of a given mindfck but still some parts were difficult to digest. Hello dark romance-ish story..

Skylar is a senior in a privileged small town of Winworth living on the right side of tracks, or a bridge in this case. This book wastes no time to get into the twisted, be warned. At first sight, she seems like a spoiled little rich high school student bored with her life and acting out but of course there’s more to her than meets the eye. Once you find out what she’s hiding from everyone it’s truly devastating. I felt for this girl…I just wanted to go all psycho and get revenge on her part. Ash is a new student to Sky’s school and has his own secret agenda. Loved Ash. They have this instant connection but secrets remain…

I loved the scenery LK painted in this story. I really felt as if I was in small gothic town of Winworth, surrounded by mountains, picturesque views and old architecture. You could feel the darkness lurking off every page underneath all this beauty. Bring on the next book… I’m ready! Not really but give it to me..

Between 1-49.5% I was going okay where is Leila going with this....

I had sneaking suspicions about certain things and I was right but others just blew me out of the water!!! I started to lose my head at 50% and from about 75% to finish I was hyperventilating whispering to myself WTF Leila!

If you love "The Skulls" type vibes in your books then this is definitely the story for you. Full of suspense, secrecy, murder, and sex!!! This book will have you wanting book 2 and ANSWERS as soon as you finish.

There’s so much to this story - romance, cults, secret societies, murder. This release is perfect for halloween/fall 😈🎃

Apathy follows Skylar Blackwood who belongs to one of the founding families in Winworth. She’s perceptive and knows something is wrong with the town and tries to mentally escape by any means. Ash previously lived in Winworth and returns at the beginning of the school year. He has secrets he’s hiding and a plan up his sleeve. Their connection was immediate and neither know how to react.

This book was interesting and not like anything i’ve read before. I loved Skylar and just wanted to hug her. i didn’t necessarily feel a connection to Ash, or feel anything towards him. but honestly i really loved Dylan Blackwood. His character was my favorite in in this book.

I can also honestly say i have no clue where this series is going but there’s so many different directions it can take!

Apathy by LK Reid is a dark romantic suspense. This is the first book in the Secrets of Winworth series.

The book comes with a warning "APATHY is the first book in Secrets of Winworth series, dealing with dark themes that might not be suitable for all readers. It is recommended only for readers above the age of 18."

All I can really say is WOW! Leila knocked it out of the park and left me begging for more! She does an amazing job pulling you into story. I don't want to give anything away so I will say this was definitely one of my top 2021 Reads!

I really enjoyed getting Skylar and Ash's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life. The book ends on an amazing cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next book in the series to be announced.

I would highly recommend this book if you love dark romance or romantic suspense.

WTAF!! I knew I was going to love this book because iv loved every book Leila has wrote, but fuck! I was not prepared for what this book had in store. It is full of secrets, murders & cults. I couldn’t get enough of this book once I started. It will have you in the edge of your seat the whole time, wondering wtf is going on and where it’s going.

Ash and Skylar’s story is like nothing you will ever read. They are both keeping dark secrets from each other, and there is loads of dark secrets within Winworth that none of them are prepared for.

This book is very dark, so I’d you have any triggers then it won’t be for you. If you like all things dark and forbidden, then you’ll love this book.

Apathy is the first book in L.K. Reid’s Secrets of Winworth series.

The town of Winworth is shrouded in mystery, secrets, and death. Not all is as it seems with the town or the families in it. Skylar is the daughter of one of the founding families. She’s a hot mess and in a never ending cycle of self-destruction, after tragedy strikes. Ash is the new guy in town with dark secrets of his own, and questionable intentions. Skylar and Ash have an instant connection, but will their connection be their downfall or their salvation?

There’s so many twists and turns in this story. What you think you know about what’s going on in Winworth….you DON’T! Gah, this story is dark, brutal, and it tugs you along until you’re at the cliffhanger dying for more.

I have nightmares sometimes and I'm pretty sure everyone out there has their fair share of experiencing nightmares in their dreams. Even though my nightmares are not that scary but they are spooky and effective nonetheless. Like:

1. An old hag she's pretty much bones and skeletons. So, I don't think it's decent on my part to even call her an old hag. It wouldn't do her justice but who cares right? She's just a figment of my imagination. (Anyways) With a few muscles hanging barely here and there on her bony frame literally in a murky pound full of bones and weeds (alike her) with disgusting white worms crawling out of her eye sockets. Beckoning me to come closer to her.

2. I'm in my room and I'm sleeping (Yeah, I'm sleeping in my sleep too) and I wake up suddenly. Only to come across two huge white beady eyes with no pupils and blood trickling out of them and a toothless manic grin directed at me from outside my window.

3. I'm playing badminton in an indoor badminton studio which is near my house when out of thin air, a man and I don't think it's appropriate to call him a man much less a human because that thing had an octopus for the head, paws for hands and hairy chimpanzee legs. It started chasing me out until I was out of breath and when I look back, it's gone.

And adding People in cloaks chasing me through the woods with a knife in hand isn't something I want to add to my growing list. But I'm a masochist, so I can't help but read the second prequel to this book too and seriously damn the consequences.

This was my first LK Reid story and she blew me away. Every page of the book was magnetic and I would think about what I read long after putting it down. Since I mostly read this one right before bed, I had so many vivid dreams which led me to still not forget the content. This is a seriously dark romance. It felt like a combination of my favorite dark dramas, mysteries or horror movies. Heed the dark warning before reading.
Skylar seemed to be at the heart of the story. My heart really went out to her because, without knowing all the details, it's obvious she is suffering. She uses substances to dull the pain and survive each day. Then Ash becomes the new kid at school. The draw toward each other is undeniable but there certainly isn't happiness that shines in his eyes.
This story will keep you guessing and trying to make sense of all the things going on in this town. No one is who they seem, in fact they may be the complete opposite. There are occult practices, secret societies, murders, revenge plots, and evil all having a million different reasons. It was absolutely impossible to not be drawn in and kept engaged throughout. It ends on a whopping cliffhanger so don't say you weren't warned. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

This book sucked me in from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. It's harsh, real, sick. Not for the faint of heart.

The town of Winworth is filled with centuries old secrets and maliciousness. Almost everyone is a monster hiding behind a beautiful façade. And in the middle of it all is Skylar, a young woman who is trying to hide her pain using drugs. She is just surving, not living. She feels like no one understands and sees her for who she truly is. Until she meets Ash.

Oh Ash, Ash, Ash. Let me tell you I fell in love with him since the moment he first appeared. For some reason he reminded of a Rhysand/Casteel mix in a contemporary setting. The immediate connection between them, the complexity of their relationship is simultaneously breathtaking and heartbreaking.

This book managed to make me feel disgusted, angry, scared question everything and everyone. Secrets, mystery, betrayal, depravity, evilness, death are a few ways to describe what this book is about.

After finishing it, I can't understand why this is my first read of L. K. Reid. What the hell have I been doing all this time?
I seriously can't wait for the next book to come out and to also dive into her other books, because her writing is impeccable!

Before you decide to read this book, please make sure to check TW. This is a dark romance so as you expect there will be some situations described which are not suitable for everyone.

I honestly haven't heard about this series until my lovely @_charreads mentioned it on her page. I'm very happy I gave it a go.

It's dark, twisted with secrets popping out of every corner. And I ate that shït like candy lol

The book starts heavy from the first pages, and you already try to come up with answers to try to understand what's going on and who the villain is, and why.

I will not reveal too much of the plot because I believe it's good to dive in blind into this. What you can expect are secrets, a girl with a broken soul hunted by unwanted memories and trauma who just wants to escape, a boy on the revenge mission, betrayal, a secret society, and a cult.

I truly enjoyed this craziness and couldn't put it down. I'm on book 2 already 🩵

Sweet Jesus...what did I just read?!? I freaking love dark romance...LOVE! This story sucked me into a town where the most vile and disgusting cult of families rules the people with an iron fist. Skylar is a broken girl who dreams of escaping the darkness surrounding her. So many triggers in this book...but I freaking loved these gray characters and not knowing who to trust. And the mystery of it all. The sexy stranger. The obsessive ex. The possessive brother. I mean I could go on and on. At one minute, I'm devouring the pages and trying to figure out what might be the next step and the next I'm cringing and wanting to hide in the corner. Crazy, insane stuff happens in this story. I'm dying to see where the author takes us next. Please keep taking me out of my comfort zone and throw me to the wolves because I'm all in!
