This is an OK mail-order bride romance, with likable characters. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.
My main complaint was that it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Blaze and Drew.
I liked Blaze, and loved that she tried to help her sister, then took on her nephew after her sister's murder. She deserved to find a good husband, which she found in Drew.
Drew was mostly likable, and I liked that he accepted Blaze's nephew Kenny, even though he wasn't sure he believed her story. He wondered if the child was really hers, and she just didn't want him to know. He did get a little irritating when he got angry about Kenny waking them up so much, but that wasn't so surprising -- especially since he didn't know Blaze would be bringing her nephew. I did like how he seemed to get past his initial irritation, though, and ended up helping protect Blaze and Kenny from her awful brother-in-law.
This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
The author has written a sweet and heartwarming story, yet one filled with lots of human emotions. This is a story of murder, grief, revenge, lies, a prison escape, danger, and romance. This is Bernadette ("Blaze") Cook and Andrew ("Drew") Wagner's story. Blaze who was planning to head West to become Drew's MOB, takes her nephew Kenny with her after her sister is murdered by her husband. Upon her arrival, Drew is not sure he believes Blaze's story about who Kenny is suspecting that Kenny might actually be her son. As the couple navigate through the suspicions and try to build a relationship, Kenny's father escapes from prison and tracks Blaze down putting all of them in danger. Will Blaze and Drew's relationship survive not only the stress on their relationship but will both of them as well as Kenny be able to escape the danger? Will Blaze and Drew build a HEA? Be sure to read this wonderful story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
This is a sweet, loving mail order bride tale, written by Caroline Clemmons. She has done an excellent job with the plot and the characters. Drew is the owner of a small ranch in Texas and wanted a wife. He writes to Blaze asking her to be his bride. Blaze’s sister has a near two year old son and a husband that is meaner than a snake. He has beaten his wife severely and this time she is in the hospital. Blaze, her sister and her son decide when her has healed they will all disappear to Texas and Blazes mail order husband. Lester, the cruel husband arrives at the hospital drunk and again beats her only this time so severely she dies. He is finally arrested for murder and Blaze takes Kenny with her to Texas, even though her husband to be is not aware of the child’s arrival. Lester and two of his compadres escape prison and come searching for her and his son. You will enjoy discovering how Drew and Blaze find their happily ever after.
.....or what he needs? Drew has very fixed ideas about his new bride and how she will fit into ranch life, imagine his surprise when he gets a feisty red head with a nephew in tow! A sweet romance that shows this newly wed couple that although there may be bumps in the road, there is a possibility of HEA if you work together.....as a family. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
A very good story but it’s sad to see how many things haven’t changed. Blaze loses her sister to her brother-in-law’s fists. She has made plans to be a mail-order bride so she takes her nephew. Everybody on the ranch and in town are kind and accepting of Kenny once Drew gets used to the idea. I really enjoyed this, at times, hear wrenching story.
This is a really fast paced short story of Blaze, a mail order bride. Due to horrific circumstances she is compelled to take her young nephew along with her. Danger follows them. Will Drew, her new husband, and his men be able to keep her and the child safe?
