Nestas 44 homilias de casamento, Douglas Wilson escava os tesouros contidos nas lições fundamentais da Escritura sobre matrimônio, especialmente aplicando sua relação com o evangelho -- com Cristo e a sua noiva, a Igreja.

Surgem analogias e desenvolvimentos muito bons a partir da vida e do perfil de cada casal em questão. Escriba versado no reino dos céus, ele "tira do seu depósito coisas novas e coisas velhas". É curioso ver também as homílias que proferiu no casamento das filhas e do seu filho.

Embora este livro seja uma festa para os pregadores, por seu extraordinário repertório de ideias, ele é para todos: quem casou, quem está se preparando para casar, e até para quem disse que não quer casar de jeito nenhum.

O autor é muito firme quanto ao papel bíblico da mulher, de respeito e honra. Mas, para não fugir ao seu hábito, dá aquela grande paulada é no espinhaço dos homens. Perdidas todas as ilusões, somos lembrados da missão de, pela esposa, em tudo, entregar-se, e morrer - como Cristo por sua igreja.

Love bestows loveliness and respect bestows respectability. Douglas Wilson points husbands and wives to these and other truths in this collection of wedding homilies. I have seen the fruit of this teaching in the lives of many of the couples addressed in these homilies, and it is a lovely thing to behold. I have also seen the fruit in some who have neglected or rejected this teaching, and it is sobering.

Having lived in this community for most of my lifetime, I remember a good number of the weddings represented in this little ebook and still watch many of the marriages.. Now, as a wife, the reminders contained in these homilies are quite helpful and challenging.
