Spooky Stories By: Eldritch Black Narrated by: Hannibal Hills
Lol! For this being a group of spooky stories, I sure giggled a great deal! It's another great middle grade book I requested and received from the author but I would say its for middle grade and up! It has several stories including ones with a group of ghosts, a girl that has magic and is picked on because she's different, a gal that is sick of love notes and does something drastic about it (my favorite!), substitute letter getters get into trouble, Pumpkin men terrorize town, and more.
Lots of fun and clever stories with a scary theme but the witty writing or dialogue made me laugh plenty! I wasn't sure if it was for kids or not or just clean fiction. When I finished I saw it was under middle grade classification. I enjoyed it and couldn't tell except maybe one or two stories. Fun and entertaining! The narration was pretty good.
I would like to give this 4.5 starts, but there's no half- stars, so I rounded up. This is a collection of YA fantasy stories, and I know I would've loved it as a young reader! I kinda loved it as a grown adult reader. The stories are whimsical and somehow nostalgic...timeless (occasionally jarred by the mention of a cell phone) and thoroughly enjoyable.
I couldn't help but notice the absolute Englishness of these tales‐ from the names of characters and places to the attitudes of orderliness and rebellion. Makes sense, since the author, Eldritch Black (wotta pen name), was born and raised in London, England. He now resides near me, on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where I found this book, in a local bookshop.
The tales are creepy, yet full of innocence; perfectly safe to be read at any age. I love the Christmastime monsters and myths, and the fictional homeland of monsters called Grimwytch. Fun!
Excellent short stories with familiar characters and told by master narrator Hannibal Hills!Loved it!I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
