STORY:
I really enjoy this story. This was one where I had negatives and positives, however, the positives outweigh the negatives for me. Adriano’s and Callie’s story started out not so great. Callie’s father owes money to a mob boss (one of my favorite trope) thus starting this crazy ride. While holding the family at gunpoint, Adriano took Callie and threaten her with a choice of marriage, or he kills her family. Adriano was the worst at the beginning of this story. His coldness is what started building my excitement as he gave zero f@&$s about anything. Callie is very timid, with a submissive attitude towards her situation. I have to say that I like that because it gave a good read when they clash.
Although I like this story, I felt Adriano’s coldness and his brutality did not have a long life span during the story. I thought he turned to mush too quickly with Callie. Don’t get me wrong, I liked his transformation, but it was too quickly done. Noting this, I felt like the violence and his treatment of Callie was mild to medium and with that, the first 25-30% of the book was dark adjacent. Once Adriano started to change, it didn’t give me dark anymore, but I still got an enjoyable story which I still liked. Also, I don’t feel Callie was a very strong female character to keep fighting back so if that’s what you are looking for this may not be for you.
CHEMISTRY:
So when I read the author’s book Not Safe, I thought their sexual chemistry was good but could be more, however, in Payment, I enjoyed Callie and Adriano sexual chemistry. I felt Adriano sexcapade matches his attitude and that’s what made it enjoyable for me.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I like Callie’s family and her sister Harper. But there were no secondary characters that I came across that I would want to see a story on for a series.
OVERALL, I enjoyed the book as a whole but more so the beginning. This is my second book by the author in 3 days and want to try 2 more of her remaining books.

Mysoginist "hero" meets too stupid to live "heroine ". He's a "tough crime Lord" because he tells us every other sentence. The other sentences are all about how he wants to screw our hapless heroine so he can maybe kill her. Because, romance?!?

To save her family Callie becomes Adriano’s wife. What will happen when sparks begin to fly between them? Can he keep her safe from those who are after him? Fast-paced mafia read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great characters and a steamy, entertaining read. I liked it.

1.5 DNF/Such a disappointment. This was a quick read that went from bad to worse and then attempts to resurrect the story later in the book. I usually try to finish books, but some don't meet my minimum requirement to finish a book.
Definition of Rape: "Sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will. An act or instance of robbing or despoiling or carrying away a person forcible". Some stories can get away with pushing this scenario when it comes to forced sex/rape; this story initially didn't pass that precarious line.
The storyline was lacking from page one; the character development was poorly done and the characters weren't interesting. The story is one that has been done quite a bit and done well, unfortunately this story fell short. The writing was all over the place and the timeline had some gaps in it that made the story spotty in places. Adriano's family are nothing but as........holes who treat women like yesterday's trash who think nothing about whoring them out or killing them.
Callie is a doormat and Adriano is a douche bag in this short story. His character is part sadist and part narcissist. He has no reason to want to break a young woman he knows nothing about so this is not about revenge; it's just about him being a sadist and getting off on bringing pain and suffering to an innocent young woman.
He starts to show some cracks in his armor as the story progresses but not enough for me to want to finish this book. He enjoys death and mayhem too much and will do anything (including destroying an innocent woman's life or getting her killed) to get what he wants in the end just so he can give his dead father and grandmother the middle finger. He could have found a willing pawn to be his wife who met the (virgin) requirement without kidnapping Callie from her home and using her family as leverage to keep her in line.
Callie's character was supposed to be a fighter but she really wasn't. She expected a monster to treat her like a wife, not a pawn or f.....k buddy, but couldn't figure out that wasn't going to happen. Too child-like and immature to really be a noteworthy heroine.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!

By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!

Talk about gritty with twists and turns, drama, suspense, danger, murder, secrets …more secrets that all come to the light eventually. Callie enjoyed a quitter life; she read and helped her papa in their restaurant. Changes were headed her and it was coming fast in the form of sexy Adriano whom her father owed a protection debt and he sees Callie instantly wants her killing two birds with one stone so to speak. He can fulfill his father’s last conditions to inherit and secure the criminal empire. According to his father’s will he have to marry a virgin and Callie is the one to help fulfill that request. Adriano finds her a distraction something he can’t afford with fighting with his father’s family who wants to take what was left to him but when he realizes Callie is in danger will have figured out his feelings for her to save and protect her. Will it be enough for Callie I mean can you really love a man who held you captive and used threats against your family to get you to what he wants, and can there be a HEA for the two of them?

PLOT-
Now, there's NOTHING much to the plot,as the title suggests,the h's daddy took a HUGE loan from the mob boss Adriano,and failed to pay it and when Adriano came to collect the money, he instead took Callie with him in exchange for Callie's parents lives. He married Callie to secure his father's property , which stated that he marry a virgin to secure all his property.
Then its the same ol story about who is going to become the head of the Crime Family, who is currently ruled by Adriano's grandmother Graziella, who actually wants him to marry a reputed girl from a crime family rather than marrying a commoner.
Then there are the bad uncles who all have taken Graziella's side that he divorce Callie and marry someone else, they are also fighting Adriano to prevent him from becoming the head of the family, because technically Adriano's mother (who was a prostitute)wasn't married to his father when he was born. So, he is not considered a Castelli.
I would like to show you Adriano's grandmother-
Not really though, remove that smile and you can see Graziella. Seriously that lady was dangerous!!!!😣😲
Anyways, moving on, the plot was.....okay.
If the author was trying to write a DARK romance, then she failed big time.
You know what? In the beginning to SHOW the readers that it's a dark romance there are a couple of DARK scenes , one of them is the Hero killing someone in front of the h, and the other one is of him using sex toys with the h.
And there's one more...which was REALLY wierd was....the H took the h to his gym where a woman was practicing on a punching bag and asked the h to fight that woman. Like...boxing you know?
That woman beat the shit out of the h all the while H was sitting there just staring at her.
And yes!! Before marrying the h, the H called in a doctor and stood on the side while the Doctor check for her virginity.
That's it. After chapter 8.....the darkness did not feel that dark at all(does that makes sense?🤔)
Also, the way every scene is written, it makes it look a little less triggering, i mean...the triggering scenes are ...well...pretty triggering...but you won't feel that they are, because they are written in such a way, that was completely normal.
If the book had been a bit longer, it would have felt like a dark romance, the MCs gave into each other feeling too easily, would have been better if she or he had fought and resisted a bit longer(even though i HATE it when they resist , but i believe that it is what is SUPPOSED to happen in a dark romance right?You aren't supposed to give in to the captor easily.).
The H was VERY much cruel, but as i said above, he started going soft on her TOO early.
And she started to feel for him too easily because she took pity on his shitty upbringing without love. She felt that SHE'LL be the one to show what love is.
Strangely enough, i liked that thing about Callie. I like when the h tries to spread lightness in the otherwise dark world of H.
But after what all he did with her, i felt like she could have resisted more...i mean...he had her beaten by a female boxer!!!!! 😭😭😲😲. Here is where i felt that it's a Dark romance.
But after they give in to there feelings...no.... it lost its element.

Callie enjoyed the quiter life, she studied, read books and helped put at her fathers restaurant. But her life was all about to change when Adriano comes knocking. Callies father owed a protection debt to the Castelli, when Adriano goes to collect he finds a better solution in taking Callie. In order to fulfil his late father's will conditions to inherit and secure his criminal empire Adriano must marry a virgin and Callie fits that bill, though she is also a distraction one he cant afford, especially when his fathers family where ganging up against him, intending to take over his territory. But when Callies life is in danger, Andriano has to figure out his true feelings and what Callie means to him, but can Callie truly love a man who has held her captive by threatening her family?
This is well written and nicely paced with an interesting story line and chemistry sizzling characters that pack a punch to the hot scenes!

I appreciate the overall concept of the narrative, but I believe it would greatly benefit from a darker tone. The main character, the male lead, lacks the level of complexity and shadow I was hoping to see; his portrayal feels somewhat one-dimensional and fails to capture the intensity and gravitas that I envisioned for him.
Moreover, I feel a crucial moment in the story was overlooked when he procured birth control for her. Rather than taking such a route, it would have been far more impactful if he had confronted the weighty issue of her getting pregnant head-on. This shift could have added layers of tension and moral ambiguity, enhancing the emotional stakes and reinforcing the darker elements of the plot. This would not only deepen the character dynamic but also create a more compelling narrative arc.

TLDR: fine for a holiday read but wouldn’t recommend
My main issue with the novel is that it just moves too quickly. Adriano and Callie fall for each other too quickly, they have sex too quickly, and even the chapters feel like they pass too quickly.
Additionally the sex scenes would have been so much hotter if they were a little longer or there was more of buildup for the tension. Likewise it just felt like it was all too rushed.
I can forgive bad writing and dialogue but overall this book just wasn’t it. Fine for a holiday read to take your mind off of things but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

The Perfect Read
I love how quickly I finished this book. It usually takes me a while to get through one but I just couldn’t put this one down.
There was the perfect mix or romance and steamy encounters, you feel a connection to the two main characters (Callie & Adriano) and want everything to fall in to place for them.
The ending did feel a little rushed but I still loved it and the Epilogue made it all the better.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good romance, a steamy read or Mafia stories.

Great read
I never really know how to do this, give a review. I don’t want to give away too much information, but always feel as if I don’t give enough. So, here goes. It starts out kinda slow, but not really. The characters were well developed and you really get to know them over the course of the book without it being too much. Some authors give to much information when it’s really not needed. That is not the case here. The characters are really relatable. It was really well written and very engaging. I would recommend this book.

No soy una experta en dark romance, no he leído tantos pero no se donde me perdí en la historia.
Lo odia, esta tratando de buscar sus puntos débiles, pero en cada oportunidad que tiene para hacerlo, ya no importa porque se enamoro.
El nombra que es muy distinta a las otras chicas y que hay algo especial en ella por lo que tiene que destruirla.
Follan más rápido que deletrear el abecedario.
Soy una blanda con los epílogo eso si, mi parte favorita. Ponme una escena de 10 años después donde todos son felices y me pongo así 🙊🥰

Adriano Castelli needs a wife. What better way to get one than from someone who owes him?? He'll take her, use her and then rid himself of the chains of a wife. The thing is, his wife Callie is not someone he can dismiss. She's sweet and loyal and even scared and afraid for her family, she makes the best of it and soon makes him happier than ever. Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. This story was between Callie and Adriano it had twists and turns, she had to marry Adriano. Callie was perfect for him in all the ways his father wanted.

Callie and her family are having a nice dinner with a friend when Adriano and his men interrupt them. Adriano decides to take Callie as payment because he needs to marry a virgin in order to get his inheritance and Callie fits the bill. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

So Callie never really does anything. Like anything. At most, she was a foil to Adriano’s dumpster fire of... development? She’s like Irina in Vlad but more useless and pathetic, which is strange because I liked Irina, but no one else seem to—and they seem to also say she’s useless and does nothing. I dunno, I just wished Callie was important in some way.

Would you marry someone you didn't love to save your life? This book is about just that. I really enjoyed it. The storyline was well developed with strong characters. A great read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read however I am a fast reader so I don’t know if that impacts the review a bit. It was a book that kept me engaged and excited. A bit of smut as well but it was really well written. Excited to read more from this author.

Great plot concept poorly executed
What a shame. The makings of a very good plot. But the writing was poor and not fleshed out sufficiently. This should have been a full length novel.
