This book sucks you in and doesn't let go

Completely enjoyed this time travel romance. The author truly brought 1944 London in World War II to life in a genuine and unique way. The story of Anne is so unique that I don't want to give a bit of the plot away so you can enjoy it thoroughly. Anne fell through a rip in time and was transported to 2008 where she spent time in a hospital with no memory. A benefactor came to her aid and their story is a touching testament to the loveliness of this book. Please check it out.

I have read several of this authors books and have really liked all of them. Time Stranger, along with many of the author’s other books deal with time travel,, make me wonder if the author knows something that we do not know, about time travel. The details that she provides about ttime travel start to make you think, this is possible… Maybe it really is?! Anyway I couldn’t put this one down either, read it straight through! Wondering what the next one is going to be about.

One of the best time travel books I've read

So well constructed that you can actually believe in time travel. The characters were well developed. Was hard to walk away from this story but life keeps intruding. Thank goodness I have this as an ebook. Now I can reread it anytime I want

Time Travel is the best entertainment

I liked the time travel in the future and the people who help. But Traveling back and what follows is satisfying

Thoroughly engaging!

This is a very interesting book dealing with WWII London and NYC in 2008. During a London air raid a young woman becomes a bombing victim but awakens in a modern day NYC hospital with no idea who she is or how she got there. As the story progresses, she wants nothing more than to get back to London of 1944 and her son and American pilot lover. It is a very exciting story and a very satisfying ending.

A wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable read! Every chapter was a surprise, and I was completely knocked over by the ending. Fabulous!

I received an ARC from the publisher, but the honest review is mine. Highly recommended, if you like the time travel genre!

Elyse Douglas – Time Stranger – Reviewed 2/18/20

How do you return when you cannot believe you left?

1944 - Anne Billings is going to meet the man that she loves, Lieutenant Kenneth Cassidy Taylor, and introduce him to her son. The day started great, the sun was out, and she was happy. Then she hears that horrible sound, the whine of the air raid sirens and the sound of the German bombers approaching from the east. She is seized with fear, fear of not getting to the safety of the air-raid shelter. She and every person in the city of London know this fear. She grabs Tommy’s hand so tight that he tells her that it hurts him. She looks upward and sees the barrage balloons floating in the sky, they were designed to discourage low-level attacks. Only this time they were not low level, they were high in the sky, above 10 thousand feet. She knew that this would be a bad one. Gripping Tommy’s hand, she tells him that they need to hurry and get to the shelter, Quick! He looks up and you can see the fear on his little face, he says, “Are those airplanes going to drop bombs, Mummy?”

She thinks to herself, I was so close, they would have met, and kissed, and he would love Tommy. The bombs are falling all around them, she lost sight of the shelter, then a flash almost blinded her. But then, everything seemed to be in slow motion, and Tommy was ripped from her hand.

2008 – Anne felt like she was swimming, everything was so hazy, she felt pain, terror, screams, and like her eyes were glued together! She strained to open them, but then the bright light crashed in and she squeezed them shut again. She heard people’s voices, noises, the sound of the bombs, the terrible pain, and then she slowly opened her eyes a crack and saw tubes connected to her arm, beeping sounds, and what were those monitors?

And the story begins…

What did I like? This book was so different, in most of the other books that Elyse and Doug have written that I have read, the time travel is backward, not forward. I really like this though. My reaction was also different, because of the emotional shock that Anne felt. The unbelievable thing that had happened to her, the disparity of finding her way to “her home”. She is so disoriented and feels this incredible loss, without knowing how to deal with it. How could this happen, and how was she going to fix it? The best part is the help that she is given by Constance. Constance, the wonderful angel that is there for Anne, giving so much, yet you can also feel her own loss, her need to fill the hole in her heart from that dreadful act that took her daughter from her!

What will you like? Intrigue, mystery, disparity, anger, emotional distress, and loss! Elyse and Doug have this wonderful way of using their words to build this fictional world that has all these feelings just floating there, then they share those emotions with us. I cried, and laughed, and cried again. The descriptions will fill your mind’s eye with the horror of the war and what it did to that magnificent town of London. You will be able to hear the bombs dropping, the sirens screaming, and the world exploding. When you listen really hard you will hear the beautiful swing music of the ’40s. The music will sweep across the pages right into your tapping feet, making you want to jitterbug to the wonderful sounds. Then through those same descriptions, you will feel Anne and Constance’s loss and despair. All this will lead you to this absolutely wonderful ending that will have you shouting, Hurray! Truly remarkable read, that you just cannot miss adding to your expanding Library!!! This will be available on March 3, 2021… mark your calendar!

Kept me reading 👱

I really enjoyed this story because it was different from other time travel books I have read. The only thing I was a little let down about was the ending. I did not expect the way it ended and I would have like it if the ending stayed with the original story line instead of going in another direction. If you read this book as I feel you should because it is good, maybe you will understand what I mean or maybe you will like the ending as it is. I feel they should have all gone back to 1944 😀

Love this book. I’ve read many time travel and loved every one. However, this one is different. It’s very complicated and you don’t know the result until you’re told. I’m not making any comments because the littlest bit of information might make you go in the in the right direction, but you definitely don’t want to know early. I’m looking for a new one right now because I want to start the next one right; I’ll be spending a lot more time reading than playing games on the computer! (I don’t think the books are connected in any way. I hope not.)

I had a feeling...

This was a totally delightful story. It kept me wondering where, and more accurately, how it would go. One thing I was almost certain of, is how it would end. And I was right. It was beautiful and choked me up. Throughout the story, Elyse Douglas did a wonderful job of describing how a time traveler would feel when thrown into such an incredible situation. I do recommend this book to not only people who enjoy time travel, but also history and adventure.

Eh

It's OK. Clunky at first. The writing gets better. It's not a romance though. So that's weird that it's in the title. Not that I care...its just confusing. She has a couple dates with a guy she falls in love with in 1944 then a couple in 2008. It's clean, sweet and ends well. It has great potential but not as it is. It's just ok. However I read a ton of time travel so I likely expect too much.

A Nice Comfortable Read

As a keen follower of Time Travel stories I thought I would give this one a go.
It isn't the best TT story I must admit but it was a pleasant read nonetheless. It still has that wonderment of someone like Anne Billings being tossed out of war-torn Britain in 1944, and flung into New York's Central Park in the year 2008.
And what a change to have it all tied up nicely at the end.
Yeah - I'd recommend it - a nice comfortable read.

A good read. I am fascinated about time travel and living between worlds, so this lecture was pleasant for me. A good story with a happy ending in a way. I do not want to spoil newer readers hope, before they starting the read. Jumping on the next book by Elyse Douglas. I feel, I am resonating on the same harmonic with these writers. Thank you for making me to escape, from the busy real times, in your fascinating universe(s).

I am really Into these time travel books by Douglas - third one I’ve read this week! Such an intriguing idea to me. In this one, Anne Billings is in London with her young son in 1944 when a bomb hits - she is transported in time to 2008 in NYC. She has lost her memory but people help her as she puts her life back together. The story is complicated when the CIA learns she has time traveled and they pursue her as she returns to London. The ending was a surprise and I loved it!

Good suspense. But I had to put the book down a few times ...

I forced myself to read the whole book, while cursing out the heroine for being so stupid, undisciplined and totally lacking in common sense. I kept wanting to just slap her silly face!
I loved the story, but I hate a heroine that I can't respect.

One of the better time travel books...

I enjoyed this book, I needed a fluff book to read when I wake in the night and can't sleep. It was just interesting enough, but not so compelling that I would stay awake for hours reading it. I liked the way the author wrapped up the story. It is a book I would recommend.

Terrific book!

I am intrigued by time travel, but the books I've read so far were set in Scotland, etc. This was very different to be in WWII and contemporary. It was well written, had great suspense, and historically plausible. I read it in two days. I will look for other books by this author. This is a winner!

This may well be my favorite of all the historical fiction and science fiction time travel that I've read!! Absolutely couldn't stop reading , and the conclusion was beyond satisfying. Characters were so well written, locations so well described, and premise so beautifully set. Kudos!

Good story

The story was good. I read it into days off and on.... I really like time travel stories. This one is different from most books. I was caught up in the drama of trying to take care of the secrets Anne had. Keeping her safe. So happy for the ending to see how it all turned out. Thanks for a nice read.

I'd say this story is a blast, but you'd have to read it to understand my meaning. Yes, the book is predictable but that's part and parcel why I liked it. Our main character is Anne Billings and you could say she's a blast from the past who fortunately falls into good hands. I feel I've struck a goldmine by finding Elyse Douglas books and I'll continue to read quite a few more.

Better than a Lifetime movie

I’m a sucker for time travel books and it’s always a coin toss whether they “work” or not. This one dragged for me until the sensational twist ending. The authors Douglas needed more than the usual romance here. It’s worth your time to see this through to the surprise ending.

I love time travel!

I’m a huge fan of this Husband and Wife duo writing time travel stories. I really enjoy Historical Fiction and Science Fiction and these time traveling stories combine the two. I highly recommend these authors. All of their stories are really well written and keep me reading until the last page and I can’t wait for more!

A Reversal of Travel

Again, another outstanding story. This time instead of the heroine going back in time, she goes forward. This is an easy all day read. I can't wait for Elyse Douglas' next book!

Fun story with a romantic ending.

Fun and enjoyable read...do not under any circumstances skip ahead. It would ruin the journey and fun. You might think you know how it will end but you just might be surprised.

I read the other reviews and sorry, I just didn't like this story. I usually like a time travel story but the plot and these characters didn't't feel real to me, their reactions and emotions felt stilted.

I couldn't put this down

I really liked the characters and the way the settings changed between times. Anne's confusion about being in a different time was well written.

I will read more by this author.
