Penance. It is the only thing on his mind. He merely exists as a tool, a weapon for the Restitution till the gods are satisfied he has suffered enough. He has no dreams for a different future, until...
...a human, one he rescues, falls into his arms.
For the first time in a long while, something stirs within Ajos. But this unknown feeling is not the only thing that stirs.
Maybe taking the human on a secluded planet had not been the best idea...
Now, instead of fighting the enemies that plague them, the person he has to fight the most...is himself.

Ajos de A.G. Wilde
Argumento:
Penitencia.
Honestly surprised at how much I liked this one considering I wasn’t expecting much. Alien romance can be hit or miss but this one was a hit. Excited for the next one in the series!
When I picked this up I didn’t realize it wasn’t part of the Sanctuary series but I liked it. There’s a good gradual build to the relationship between Kerena and Ajos, good chemistry once they get together and overall their crucial Firsts (meet/kiss/love scenes) worked for me. There’s a lot of Ajos’ motivation to not accept a mating because he feels unworthy but in the end it’s resolved quickly and that lowered my rating a wee bit because it felt kind of rushed. But overall I’m appreciating AG Wilde as a SFR writer. Looking forward to the next one.
Guys, guys, guys...the alien’s skin is minty-teal. It’s super important that you be reminded of this 27 times throughout the book.
Yes, I counted.
Oh, and Karena’s mouth opened and formed a lot of “O’s”. So that’s a thing.
The repetition killed me.
It wasn’t the worst sci-fi romance I’ve ever read, but it wasn’t great either. Two stars because the writing, apart from the repetition, wasn’t terrible. The story was semi-entertaining. The Second half of the book was mostly porn. Bad dragon fetish porn. But I’m not one to judge kinks.
Ajos is the first explosive sci-fi book in the The Restitution series by AG Wilde. Kidnapped by vile creatures who take and breed no matter who you are. Creatures who torture, rape, and murder, no matter the consequences. It is a dark, high-stakes danger with romance, action, tension, vicious battles, danger, and suspense. A series that should not be missed.
But hot on their heels are aliens that have lost everyone they loved to these creatures, hoping to stop them to exact revenge. These new aliens are loyal, have courage, and will take on all looming threats that jeopardise their lives and the lives they swore to protect. These alpha heroes find something they thought would never be possible, and that is a connection with humans in the face of uncertainty and danger.
As usual, I really enjoyed this alien romance from A.G. Wilde. Her books are very closely aligned to Ruby Dixon’s in terms of style, length, and “feel”—so if you like that author, pick up Wilde for sure!
I was slightly bothered toward the last quarter of the book, as Ajos seemed to have massive feelings for Kerina and she seemed rather tepid...more angry that he appeared to be brushing her off than wondering about her “real” feelings.
The book also ended rather abruptly...I suppose I’m used to epilogues that tie things up rather nicely, but this one didn’t have anything and wrapped up in a paragraph or two. I’d liked to have read some scene that got me excited for the next stand-alone in the series.
This started off as 4 stars for me but I’m knocking off a star because I cannot stand the miscommunication trope at all, like please just talk to each other that is all you need to do. You guys need to speak to each other.
However, this was such a good read. I throughly enjoyed the writing and I loved the overall arching plot. It is one that continues on into the next book with the next couple, which I am pretty interested in. In alien romances terms this was a slow burn which I really enjoyed.
I did really love both of our mcs. They are strong and brave and I loved how she so readily joined the mission and is willing to understand her new way of life.
A quote I really liked was:
You mean there are more aliens out there?" A woman with shor curly hair spoke up. Her eyes shone as if the prospect excited her, to which some of the females around her looked positively disturbed.”
Because you know what hell yeah that is such a relatable line.
I AM SICK OF ALIEN ABDUCTION ROMANCES. It's been done to death... then this came along.
A bunch of women are abducted from Earth by an Alien race we only hear about, cryogenically transported in pods on a ship that crashes on an Alien planet - an unmentionable distance from Earth. Said women are rescued by a mix of Aliens who form the Resistance to the aforementioned Alien race.
Ajos, one of the alien rescuers shows more compassion that most humans. He is burdened by guilt for something in his past that was out of his control. Survivor's guilt. He is in denial on recognizing his mate, even though his body fights against him. Thankfully Kareena is not a xenophobic human, screaming all the time or self-entitled, which gets tiresome really fast.
So Ms. Wilde found a way around my first statement and I've now read this, my first book by her. Sneaky, very sneaky.
To learn more about what's going on in this universe I guess I'll have to check out her backlog.
I didn't think this series could get better, but A.G.Wilde said hold my beer! So, in this book we meet some members of Restitution! The resistance against the Tasquals. This book brought you to base camp and a whole new world awaits with Karena and Ajos. And i love how he says her name!!! Soo lots of angst and steamy looks, and hot smexy times and amazing character development!! I just love this series and cannot wait for thr next one!
3.5 I was torn a bit on this one, it hits a lot of what I like in a romance and if this was just the 1st book I might've gone a bit higher on the rating, but this is (essentially) book 9- this is the 3rd series set in the same world, with the same bad guys, with the same overarching plot of trying to take these guys down. I expected a bit.. more?
ok, ok, here we go. Some spoilers below.
the great:
-The romance. This is a romance book after all and the author gets us right to it! The chemistry between Ajos and Kerena is there from the beginning and Kerena doesn't seem to have any hangups about lusting after an alien. You can blame it on being a fantasy book, you can blame it on the fact that Athena from the book Xul was there to help the captured women and thus normalizing human-alien mates, but whatever.. it worked and it got the romance going so I'm not complaining. -Ajos. I liked his character. He is a leader, has the proper amount of angst due to past trauma, is completely head over heels for the fMC, what more could a girl want? Plus despite being 'minty-teal' and the...pouch (lol), he was mainly humanlike which made the romance go a bit more smoothly imo. -the revelation between Kerena and the alien planet/ flower that leads to a potential cure form the baddies' disease. It took 9 books, but now we have a potential way to save the rape victims from the disease that kills them after being raped and forced to give birth to their offspring. I like story progression!
the meh.
-I wish the author spent more time fleshing out that weird plant planet...it was very creepy in a goosebumps sentient plant sort of way, but we didn't really get any answers to what was happening and why Kerena's blood made flowers appear? -The 'heat' that Ajos goes through. This is just a personal thing, but I didn't like it. I found it just a bit too weird and it kept jarring me out of the story. I wish the author focused more on the mate bond or whatever to explain Ajos' behavior rather than this weird 'he's in heat' thing like he's an animal or something. It gets there.. eventually.. just not quick enough for me i guess. -the ending trial. It was laughably bad. Why was there even a trial in the first place? Is Ajos not allowed to protect his mate? Are they not allowed to fight back? Is the restitution (whos SOLE GOAL is to rescue humans and KILL the baddies) not allowed to kill the ones responsible for kidnapping a Kerena (A HUMAN) and trying to sell her back to SAID BADDIES? ... what?? -Again with the no consequences for the main bad guys... I just want to see the tasquals get all murdered *shrug* but it makes sense that this won't happen until the author is finished with all series/books related to them. And now that they have this new tech it's gonna be harder to finish them off.. hey, the books have to have a main antagonist to keep going.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read & I'll definitely read the next one (though I'm getting very wandavision vibes.. isn't V'Alen an andriod? I may be ok reading alien romance, but I'm not sure even my talent for putting reality on hold can make me like a human falling in love with a robot lol)
Kerena left her lab for home but wakes up in a glass coffin without air or a way to escape. It is finally cracked open, a not exactly human and rather minty colored face is there I'm front of her. As if the glass coffin wasn't the first clue, this would have given it away. She wasn't in California anymore. And when immediately after getting her translator they're bombed by the guys who had stolen her in the first place, she's not sure about her situation being improved.
Spoilers ahead. Ok, so this series seems to be broken into, what is now, at least 3 branches. The first starts with Xul, which I haven't read thanks to kind reviewer's warnings that the author left off. The second is the Sanctuary series, and now this, which is a continuation of the first series. The Sanctuary one is only loosely connected via having the same bad guys. It's not mentioned in this series, but the bad guys basically have some genetic disease killing them. They've decided to breed it out via unwilling victims. This premise confuses me as they're a medically advanced and space faring race. But I guess they need some reason for all the kidnapped humans. Kerena is a botanist, which comes in handy later on. I've only read a few books by this author but the main trope seems to be lack of communication. Usually because of 2 different languages, but this time because his species has a hear cycle, he found his mate, believes he doesn't deserve one due to his past, and doesn't tell her. She thinks he's sick and running a fever, so when she's told to run, she refuses to abandon him. Then, more misunderstandings post coitus. And more when back at the base. You want to shake them both. Then, for some reason, the ending is just strange. Why wouldn't he be able to defend his mate? Why would he be punished for killing kidnappers and traitors? She takes the fall for it, and boom, HEA. It was oddly disjointed. They talked to themselves but not each other, so the readers understand what's going on but the characters don't. If they aren't communicating, that bond we're supposed to believe in comes down to chemical on his part and hero worship on hers. When he explains his past and why he doesn't deserve a mate, his story is a lot shorter and much less detailed than what he monologued to readers. She barely blinks over the whole near cryo death, bombing, being rescued from a race that wants to rape them to death, and now being housed by a resistance that's in a bit of shambles and not really sure how they're going to protect them. So, I guess my biggest complaint is things are disjointed and a few plot holes dance around.
So I didn't realize this before I started reading, but Ajos may be the first book in the Restitution series, but that series is the continuation of another series. So, minor spoilers for that other series in this book/review! You have been warned!
Ajos is an alien and a member of the Restitution, a group of rebel aliens who fight against the evil overlord scum ugly bast*rd looking aliens, the Tasqals. We open as Ajos and others are attempting to open a stasis hold full of human women. Four other human women are already integrated into their society (aka mated to members of the Restitution) and they didn't realize more women were in the ship they crashed in until later. See, the Tasqals had kidnapped these women from Earth for some reason (they're known rapists though, so it's obviously nothing good), and they cannot get back. However, the Restitution is a very nice and friendly place!
Ajos is helping to open the hold when they finally break it open a bit, but a signal starts beaming up, presumably notifying the Tasqals of the fact that their cargo is being stolen. A self-destruct mechanism starts up and the stasis pods the women are trapped in shut off without letting the women out, meaning they begin to suffocate. The opening they created is too small to get through, so the men scramble to get in the hold in time to save them all. They finally get in just in time to save all the women. Just when things calm down, bombs drop from the Tasqals all over the base because they were notified of the signal. They knew the hold would keep the women relatively safe, or they just didn't care, but there were massive casualties outside.
As the women get settled, our heroine, Kerena, and Ajos quickly bond and he can't leave her alone. but when he starts to go into heat, he is afraid he will lose control and rape her and he feels he isn't worthy of her. Fighting their attraction to each other, they travel off-planet to check out a signal and, well, nature takes its course, so to speak.
This book was just what I needed. It kept me gripped the whole time and even though the plot could have felt super cliche I was still on the edge of my seat and hurting for them when they hurt. That is good writing, ladies and gentleman. Bravo AG Wilde! I'll be moving on to more of this series and the prequel series!
4 &1\2fabulous 🌟s for book 1 of the Restitution series
Love it love it love it! This is the first book in a spin-off series from Captured by Aliens. More human women were found in stasis that were captured by the tasquals. We got to see old friends that I first fell in love with and meet news ones that were just as easy to adore. Kerena one of the females in stasis who almost didn't make it out of the chamber because it malfunctioned. She is a botanist by trade with a strong sense of self, who instead of freaking out when she's rescued by Aliens is more curious than anything. Especially by one gorgeous minty-jade colored alien that all muscle but so kind and gentle with her. Ajos joined the Restitution after he failed to save his sister when her stasis pod malfunctioned, when he was assigned to her rescue the human women fro. The Tasquals he was honored. When he was that one of the beautiful human females was trapped in her stasis pod and dying he couldn't stop trying to rescue her. He would not fail another female. He expected her to be afraid of him not curious . Their attraction was swift but their desire to get to know one another was intense. Ajos did not leave Kerena's side the more time they spent together the greater the bond. Throw in a mating heat, an attack by the enemy, a scary mission and creepy sentient planet life and you got one hell of a passionate, action packed romance! Highly recommend and I can't wait to see who's story 's next!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I must say I've been WONDERING what happened to that poor woman who was awake in her stasis pod when things went sideways in the CbA series. While we don't specifically find out about her issues here, THINGS ARE HAPPENING and I am giddy. GIDDY! (Seriously, because the idea of someone being aware in one of those things makes my skin crawl and HOLY CRUD that poor woman. Gimme her story. I WANT TO KNOW!)
This is Kerena and Ajos's story, though. So let's talk about them. Kerena's one of the women rescued from the stasis pods and she's pretty chill about being abducted by aliens and then rescued by aliens. Sure, sure, she has a few panicky moments, but she adapts pretty quickly. Which is good, because things get hairier the longer she's awake.
On the plus side, she has a hunky, colorful alien keeping her company. Downside? Ajos runs hot and cold on her. Not because of anything she did, but because he's completely sure he's unworthy of a mate due to THINGS that happened in the past. So while he feels protective and he's drawn to Kerena, he also does his level best to push her away and not cross any lines. Which, quite naturally, sends very mixed messages to Kerena.
A little danger, a unique planet, an unexpected heat, and a lady who wants to do her part to help against the beings who stole her from her planet. GOOD STUFF!
This book takes place in the same universe as Xul and Riv’s Sanctuary. Ajos and his buddies rescue Karena and other human women from stasis pods. Ajos immediately feels a connection to Karena. Then, they’re attacked and it triggers his species’ heat. He tries to hide it and take some medication but when they’re sent to a botanical planet to find an item on a crashed ship, there’s no escape. He goes all feral, holds back, but she encourages him to let go ;)
They eventually leave the planet with a flower that could be the key to beating the bad guys. It’s when they get back to headquarters that I found this book fell flat. There was a lot of action and tension beforehand then it became more about miscommunication, a third act “oh no, the hero has to rescue the FMC one more time!”, and then moving in together. It’s fated mates and you can tell based on how quickly they moved once they acknowledged they were into each other in a way that wasn’t just because of the heat.

👽 “For many moons, I walked a dark path alone, haunted by my past. You’ve changed that for me. You’ve given me purpose to live.” ~~~ Kerena is smart, curious and adventurous. I really liked how calmly she accepted the fact that she’s been abducted.
Ajos is strong, protective and loyal. He’s very troubled by events from his past and is very determined to keep his distance from Kerena. I really liked how their relationship developed because their chemistry was undeniable and their character development was really great.
I also loved that we get to meet characters from the Captured by Aliens series again.
Overall, the story is filled with action, adventure, drama and it’s sizzling hot. Add a mating heat and a dangerous strange planet to the mix and you get a really fantastic read!
Honestly I wasn't sure how I was going to rate this one. I knew I liked it because I read it so quickly, yet there were parts of the story that were my least favorites from all the books in this universe. In the end I had to give it 5 stars for a couple of reasons: 1) I couldn't put it down and 2) once I finished it I kept thinking about it and couldn't wait to read the next book. I also feel like I could reread this book and still enjoy it (I guess that's 3 reasons)
The parts I did not enjoy were very minimal quick scenes and thinking about them now makes me laugh (they were more dramatic and ridiculous than actually bad.)
I recommend reading Xul from the Captured by Aliens series before reading this one. It will introduce some of the characters and will also explain the scenario the human women are facing.
It was really good!!! The characters were very well developed and it was very interesting that there was an emotional connection from the beginning between the mcs. It was slow burn, something that i appreciate cause in most alien romances the relationship between alien and human is insta-ish and fast and that make me disconnected from the main heroes. I didn't give 4 stars cause in the end the characters didn't have an open discussion to confess their feelings to each other and explain the way they acted due to their miscommunication. It felt like it should have an extented epilogue were they should have explained their previous actions. That's my personal opinion tho. I totally recommend if you want a good alien romance story with depth.
The repetition has got to stop. The repetition has got to stop
I can't with this lazy story. When I get a story like this where the author just continues to give me the same info over and over, I try come up with ways to make it better. Like maybe they wrote a little bit, stopped writing and then had to go run so errands. Then when returned to writing, they forgot what they wrote before sooooo that why I'm reading THE SAME STUFF. Maybe they loose their memory every 24 hours like Drew Berrymore in that one movie. I just don't know! Not reading anymore. I repeat. Not reading anymore.
3.5 stars. This is another fun alien romance. There are definitely some unrealistic aspects here that go beyond the fact that we are on an alien planet and the other wish-fulfillment aspects of being lifelong mates with someone you’ve just met. Like, going on an expedition in a dress and thinking there’s no danger when they’re in the middle of a war. And doing work in a lab with your hazmat suit on but no constraints on who else is able to come into the lab. There is not a lot of character development but the characters are interesting and the story is good enough. Likable, fun. But not a lot of depth.
I picked this one from KU on a whim. I always read goodreads reviews beforehand but this time I went in totally blind. I'm glad I gave this book a chance! It was a really great read. I enjoyed the forest part on the other planet but I wish it would have been longer and darker. I love a little dark and scary in my scifi romance. Ajos also turned into kind of a possessive asshole after he went into heat, which I kind of felt eh..about. Still enjoyed it either way and I'll definitely be checking out the other books in the series!

This book was well thought out and made me crave more.
Things I liked: 1. The h (kareana) was a botanist and unlike so many books I read where their careers bring nothing extra to the plot, Wilde was able to incorporate this aspect into the heroines character. 2. While the romance was a little quick, it didn't feel rushed or unfounded. 3. The pacing was well done
Things I didn't love: 1. The only thing I didn't love was the ending. It seemed a little rushed and too simple. While the rest of the book has complexity, it was missing in the final scenes of this book.
A beginning of a great series, I loved this read, the heroine is a botanist and the hero a commander, how they respond to each other is somewhat extraordinary but for the commander it gets deeper bordering on obsession. The heroine wakes up on an alien planet, with other women abducted from earth ..she is rescued by an alien that does not completely freak her out, and now her protector, thus their journey begins. There is heaps of action, possessiveness and growling ..a must read
