Midworlder Trilogy #1

Unknown Protector

Rate this book
Two things have helped Nicole cope since the murder of her husband. One is running her detective agency, and the other is her guardian angel, Mira. When Mira is killed by a demon, Nicole accepts the help of a Ridge, a long-haired, cigar-smoking diamond in the rough with wings. Things go from bad to worse when a replacement guardian cannot be found. She has to trust Ridge, which is tricky when she realizes there are no demons or angels, just parasitic aliens that humans have built the myths of these celestial beings around. Ridge isn't an angel or a devil, but an alien half breed known as a Midworlder. He is also way too sexy for his own good.

Maggie Mundy lives in Adelaide, Australia and is a member of Romance Writers of Australia, and the local chapter SARA (South Australian Romance Authors). She has also performed for many years in corporate entertainment for which she wrote her own sketches which probably explains why her head is so full of characters. She loves writing romance but thinks falling in love can be scary, especially in her stories where creatures of the night really exist.

Forget everything u know about heaven n hell as u read this book. Mundy has created a world that has references to the divine but with a different twist n flavor. There are Angelics, Demonics , Relin n Midworlders. There r others who r considered to be Elevated who r the supreme beings( as in God vs the Devil). Midworlders r the offspring of Angelics n Demonics who have mated with Relin(human servants).
Nicole is a human with a Guardian Angel named Mira but their association is different from the beginning. Usually a human isn't supposed to be able to see, hear, talk or feel their Guardian. When Mira comes under attack by a Demonic Midworlder named Sayell she summons Ridge to take over protecting Nichole.
Ridge is an Angelic Midworlder but his duties require him to take Nichole to Pergo (think Purgatory) to secure a new Guardian Angel. This is where everything gets out of hand, as Nichole's uniqueness becomes more evident. Instead of arriving to Pergo in stasis she is very much in control of all her faculties.
I got so involved in this story n resisted the temptation to fast forward to the end to see if my expectations of the plot if this story were correct or whether the author took another direction. I'm glad I did. It made the ending so much sweeter. Read for yourself n draw ur own conclusions as u immerse yourself in this world of Unknown Protector.

I had to give myself a day to think about how I would rate this book. I was all set to read everything in this series until the very end. I'm trying not to give away any spoilers everyone who has read this book knows what I mean FlashForward one year after such a trying time with no answers to me felt like it was rushed I would rather have not had that year blasted ahead without answering questions… For the ending? No. I'm not a little girl and that's not going to satisfy me. I cannot tell a lie this author has mad skills when she writes. I did not care to be rushed so I had to take a star away. I will not be reading the rest of the series. And it is it because the story is not good it is very good it is because I do not trust the author to answer questions that I need answered with her writing. Also note to editor it is my guess you are not American because a lot of the editing was not done in the style that an American would talk or think. For an example people get bored not board....

Those of you who dig a classical happy ending might like this book better than I. I am too much like an investigator I need a lot of answers i's dotted and T's crossed.

I received this book from the author, Maggie Mundy, and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock. Unknown Protector is the first book in the Midworlder Trilogy. This is a story for those readers who like paranormal and books about demons and angels, or at least creatures that come across as angels and demons to humans. This story is about Ridge and Nicole. It starts out with Ridge who gets an urgent voice in his head telling him to come help Mira’s human right away. We then switch to Nicole who is sad because this is the one year anniversary of her husband’s death. She walks out on the balcony for some air and comes back in a little bit later to find someone killing Mira, her guardian angel. She is grabbed and starts fighting for her life. While her attacker looks like a very handsome human his eyes seem red and he comes across as evil to Nicole. Mira’s last words to Nicole are to survive and that Ridge is the answer. Ridge then joins the fight and I will leave you to read on from there because the action really doesn’t stop after that till the end of the book.

This book was awesome! I had a very hard time putting it down. The characters are totally believable and real and draw the reader in right away. The story starts out with action in a paranormal way and continues to keep going and doesn’t stop. It has some new twists on the ideas of Angels and Demons which I cannot go into detail without spoilers so read it for yourself. This is a book I would read again! I can’t wait for the next books to come out in this series.

I’m giving this book 5 fangs.

Very good!

This was a well written story about aliens that look like angels. There are two groups one good and one bad. Both groups use human's to be come enlighten. The demonic one's lack on like parasites and make their host do bad things like killed friend's and family. The angelic one's are guardians and try to help their hosts. The aliens, both groups are each other's enemy. With human's stick as pawns. It's got to end! Hopefully!

The concept was fantastic, and enjoyable to read. The characters' journeys were distinct and the changes (figurative and literal!) were most definitely there. Really liked the story itself, but have to confess to being distracted by the editing. Given it was put out there by a publishing company, I was a little disappointed in the lack of attention to detail there. But that's not on the author at all, and I understand that. She did a great job at laying down the characters, concept, and storyline. And I am looking forward to delving back into the second book. :)

Interesting concept! I enjoyed the booj, but I believe there may be a problem with editing, the sentences were jumbled, ran together and for too long. it was not a good, understanding, flow. This may be a problem between adapting it for American.

Nicole's Guardian Angel Mira has helped Nichole deal with the death of her husband. When Mira is killed by a demon Nicole's world takes a wild ride. Ridge, a Midworlder has been called on to help Nicole. When he fails to procure her another Guardian Angel he vows to look out after her.

I loved the non stop action and suspense in this book. Angel that were nice and not so nice battle for dominance in the world. One Angel is determined to take Nicole and make her his but not in a nice loving way. To protect her from this Ridge bonds with her, but in the end that doesn't always protect a human. In a race against time can they save Nichole.

This paranormal story contained Angel - not so nice ones and nice ones and they did not play nice with each other. Then there was the character who thought he was above God and could do what he wanted. If you think you know where Ms. Mundy is going with the angel theme she takes it to a whole different level. Then Nicole seems to have abilities that no one understand and she doesn't seem to be able to control.

The character development of Nicole and Ridge was fantastic. Both of them are unique. Just as importantly Ms. Mundy did a fantastic job of character development with all of the secondary characters. They added so much to the story.

If you love Paranormal with a dose of sexiness thrown in then I recommend this read.

I was given an electronic copy of this book by the author for an honest review. Although there is a paranormal/science fiction component to this book, I would classify it as romance, bordering on erotica. I thought that this was going to be an angels and demons novel, but was pleasantly surprised when the author took the unexpected twist into science fiction. My biggest problem was the rough editing, especially with regards to grammar. Missing commas and misspellings aside, I thought that the underlying plot was interesting. I am always a fan of novels with strong, feisty, and determined female characters - Nicole hit all of those marks for me. I recommend this book to those who like reading romance novels with a twist.
