Those who were taken... They never came back, dragged beneath the waves never to return.
Their haunting screams were a symbol of their horrific deaths.
Like shadows they lay in wait, the deep blue waters hiding them from view.
With sharp claws they attack,
Pointed fangs tearing into skin,
Eager mouths devouring human flesh.
Cally was taken, dragged under the water by one of the vicious creatures. But she was not devoured nor torn apart by ruthless claws—no.
She was a captive.
~•~
Water instantly invades her senses. Her eyes sting, her lungs and nose burning. She thrashes, kicks, claws—anything to get away. Her efforts go to waste as her body slowly starts to shut down, the air in her lungs quickly being replaced by sea water.
Cally is vaguely aware of arms wrapping around her waist and behind her head before she loses consciousness, submerged in darkness.
i loved atlas although i started not liking him as much when i found out he was not a virgin and he’s been with a lot of women. that was tough, even if it’s only mentioned a few times i still had safety issues with it:( that is just me personally though.
everything about this book was amazing. the characters, the storyline, everything. this book literally broke my heart so now i have to go read romances with an HEA to sooth the pain😭
the last few chapters were ROUGH😭😭😭 i couldn’t stop crying. NO ONE DIED!!!! and this book is an HEA at the very end but they do have separation.
for people who want the spoilers i will put them down below so scroll if you don’t want to see them!!!

atlas (the mmc) takes the fmc back home and there’s a lot of crying and sadness because they don’t want to leave eachother. she begs him to take her back home to their ‘home’ he doesn’t and tells her he can’t give her everything (kids, sex, ect… he’s a mer man so only at one time during a year does he lose his tail and he can only have kids with his species)
she wallows in depression for years, goes to college, finds a guy she gets married to and he knows about Atlas and that her heart will always belong to him. her husband was okay with that and they had kids together. four years after her husband dies and her kids are grown, she goes to visit atlas (i think she is in her 50s now) and they reunite. she says she will stay with him now.
truth be told that ending was so hard to read. she lost her v card (i presume) to her husband and not the person she loved which i always am like ‘if they really love someone why have sex with someone else?’ anyways.. it was heartbreaking but it does end with an HEA depending on how you want to look at it.
Spoilers over!!
safety: virgin heroine manwhore ish hero (mer man) hero and heroine don’t have sex together in the book no OM/OW drama (the heroine was sexually assaulted by another mer man but the hero got there in time and killed him)
I read this book a couple months ago and since the beginning i was so hooked in it. The writing and the story itself are beautiful and sad and it make me feel in a little rollercoaster of emotions.
I still think about this story almost daily and i would love for it to be published or something because it's something that i could read and read and not get tired about. The ending? Well it's bittersweet but it's definitely the most realistic ending that a story like this could have. I will definitely re-read the book again some of this days i finished in just one day the first time that i read it but well it's just easy to read and perfect. :)
4.5 Stars ! I am truly at a loss for words, this left me absolutely gobsmacked... This was such a hauntingly beautiful short story of two soulmates both from very different worlds, forever doomed to be estranged from one another. However, even despite the glaringly obvious disparities between them, love conquers all as they become each others safe haven–two lost pieces forever meant to find one another. How a monster finds reprieve for the pain he's suffered at the hands of despicably evil humans and of how he then repents and pays for his mistakes–all because of the gentle human girl who showed him the power of kindness ❤ After all, even monsters can be capable of humanity after falling to his knees in surrender of love before the very human girl he took captive under the sea ;)
I'd say this novel is like the perfect blend of the classic 1997 hit romance Titanic, the movie Shape Of Water and the danmei novel Cold Sands/The Frore Dunes by Mu Yun Lan Qing !
* plz note that there is NO Stockholm Syndrome, mind-fuckery or non-consent in this novel whatsoever.
Ok, so although the writing could be improved and even though I felt it was rather a basic read, I still loved it! I was reeling from chapter to chapter, gagging to know what came next. I’d say this is definitely a YA book, but that grants it no less interesting.
I just wish we knew a little bit more about Callys return, but I can understand why it’s not touched upon.
A true love story that spans across decades (and even species)!
FAVOURITE PASSAGE: “They had both left their mark on the other, each of them giving away a part of themselves that neither would get back. That’s loves way, you see. What is given is gone forever and no matter how you search to fill the gap, nothing will ever fit but the one who has the missing piece”

Changed my heartbeat, made me cry for 2 days straight (to the point of nausea) after I read it. And I mean two days straight- I quite literally cried the entire 2 days because I couldn't stop thinking about how sad the ending was. The story also maintains a strong sense of mystery throughout the book, which most books usually lose after the first few chapters when the premise develops into a plot and character names are revealed. I believe it does this by having a no-plot plot and keeping the story centered solely on the two main characters, maintaining them as archetypes. I enjoyed the no-plot aspect because there was little added stress; you got to experience exactly who the characters were, and the author was skilled enough that I couldn't put the story down.

I cannot put in words how much I love this book it’s 2am and I’m searching for a physical copy. Thank you Allie, truly for the opportunity to experience such hurt and pain as much as I wanted to scream and cry but I am content in the end of how it ended. The book is beautifully written. The pace, is not too fast nor to slow but the characters will slowly wiggle their way into your heart and won’t notice until it’s too late and fall victim. But again it’s an amazing read I 10/10 recommend and very much waiting for a physical copy release 👀
I've read this book before but decided to read it again for the sake of it.
It's an amazing book which starts very thrillingly and ends sadly. Although it is not tears sad, it's more like: No :(
Atlas and Cally had a cute af friendship/relationship. I got so happy when they kissed and when they cuddled. Became a bit sad when they had to leave and bring her back.
Overall, gives me enemies to lovers vibe and it was really worth reading a second time

I read this book during the lockdown and oh my did I stay up till 3 am to try to finish it! It gave me a world to escape into when I needed one. The story had me hooked. I was quite emotional once I realised that the book was going to end and it would be an ending that would have me crying....and it did. Do give it a read and cry with me in the comments along with the other wattpaders!
Loved this book, loved how Atlas didn’t know what love means but he loved Calliope in his way and he learned to love Calliope in her own way, this meant so much for me, although the end was really painful I understood why he let her go. Love always comes back at you, no matter how much it takes, love came back for Calliope and Atlas.
This is one of the only books that made me cry for days. Maybe even the only book. This book is a beautiful rollercoaster. I read this book some months back but i still think about this book allot. I just wish it will be published as a paperback in the future too. 💜
This is one book that is emotional, overwhelming, and just a all in all beautiful love story. I cried and cried in so many chapters. I would definitely read this in the summer just for the nostalgia!! This story will always get me! <3
I'm a sucker for emotional stories about star-crossed lovers. Despite being a book written on Wattpad, it's very well written. Would absolutely love it to see this published or adapted into a film because this has strong potential!!
Wow! What a beautifully written story. The love story or Cally and Atlas is so beautifully tragic and heart ripping, an emotional journey that hurts you in the best way possible. The pace of the story was good and realistic and the 3rd person pov was the right choice for the book!
I read this book years ago while it was still new on Wattpad and oh my god. I cried my eyes out for days after finishing it. To this day it's still one of my favorite books.
