Crude Hill High #1

Monsters' Crew

Rate this book
Crude Hill High is unlike any other school. We learn to fight because we’re the kids who come from monsters. Caleb, River, Gael, and Vadik are the kings who rule. They may only be eighteen, but they’re dangerous, and I saved one of them. Rather than let it go, they want to know me. To save one is to protect all.

I’m used to being invisible, yet, to the Monsters’ Crew, I’m anything but. They won’t let me hide, determined to break down my walls that keep me—the daughter of a minion—safe. My father has very little power, and the only thing he values is my virginity, which I’m sure he’s more than willing to sell.

What’s more, I want to be with them every step of the way. I don’t know how I can make it work with four guys, but every single day, they convince me I can. In our world, there is no such thing as a happily-ever-after. Our lives are always on the edge of pain and death, and I should have known nothing good would last.

This is part one of a duet. Emily and her Monsters will conclude in part two.

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound.
She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

I love badass bitches and Emily Crane definitely fits the bill. She’s fearless because she doesn’t give a rat’s ass and she has an unhealthy fascination with death. So, it’s no surprise she’s caught the eyes of the four guys sitting at the top of the food chain at Crude Hill High.

I’m really starting to love these boys, especially the way they handle Emily’s father, the scumbag. I hope they let her kill him herself.

It’s amazing that she never fought for herself but when the new girl, Ashley arrives, Emily decides she’s an innocent. And not only does she protect Ashley, she fights for her. It’s beautiful that she cares so little for herself but wants to save a pure soul.

My only complaint other than the bad editing (honestly I’ve come to expect that from Sam Crescent) is the same I had with Share Me. So many POV’s, it’s really hard to figure out who’s who. Caleb and Gael feel similar and so do River and Vadik.

Unlike most RH’s I’ve read. It’s not a matter of the boys being willing to share Emily, they all want to. The relationship the four boys have is very close and full of love. And the way they all start to adore, protect and even love Emily is delightful.

They all, in one form or another had a death wish until she and them combined. They gave each other a reason to live instead of just surviving.

I just realized there’s barely any physical descriptions for the guys. Was that on purpose?

She gave it up to the right one in my humble opinion.

It was a foregone conclusion but that doesn’t lighten the blow whatsoever. Ugh, I fucking hate cliffhangers!

I’m not sure why I didn’t end up liking this book as much as others have. Up until Emily knifing someone’s neck, i was interested, then it just flopped. Became a little too unrealistic.
Emily really turned into a tramp overnight with strange boys she hardly knew. I didn’t see much of a connection between herself and each of them, other than sex. Love? I don’t get it.

I love the idea, just wasn’t a fan in the execution of the book.

I always go into a SC book with a little trepidation. She's not always safe and a majority of her books have triggers. However, occasionally I find a good one. This is such a find.

No real OW drama
Safe - one small scene in the beginning where a girl is sitting on one of the guys laps but no real detail is given so it meant nothing to me.
Strong Heroine
Strong, damaged Hero's

It may have happened quickly but I really liked how the Hero's loved the heroine. They didn't question anything on their side...they just made the decision and went with it. They were obsessive and pursued her even when she pushed them away but I didn't find it to be overdone - their persistence is what I'm looking for in a Hero.
The heroine was also strong and I most def didn't get any TSTL feelings or moments from her. She wasn't the waffling kind and when she made a decision she stuck to it, she didn't back down from the unknown.

This won't be everyone's cup of tea - SC's writing style takes some adjusting to - but I found it enjoyable and def look forward to the sequel!

This might be weird, but despite giving this two stars, I actually am interested in what happens next. I think the premise of this story is interesting, but I just didn't love the delivery of it.

The dialog seemed very stilted and inorganic. I don't know how else to describe it, but I couldn't really get the emotions from the characters. The Hs are cool, but don't quite have too exciting and unique personalities. Emily truly endured a lot with her father and situation but despite that, she seemed more robotic than anything.

The whole world they live in was super over the top too. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but the way it's made out, you'd think the death rate of that town would lead to no humans being left.

Overall interesting but I didn't feel emotionally invested with the characters.

Long winded story of introducing the characters to the readers. A lot of posturing but very little action in this book. I hate multiple books to tell one story. And I am not a fan of reverse harems. This author doesn’t do reverse harems justice. It always seems forced or even unequal between the characters.

This book was also a redo on this author’s duet story “The Initiation”. That duet was horrible while this one was just weak. Or should I say tepid. Either way, I was bored and annoyed with this duet as a whole. It was all extremely contrived and not something I could genuinely get invested in.

I have NO desire to read the third book “Beast’s Demands”, with the Ashley and Earl characters. Just like this book was boring and uninteresting, these side spin-off characters aren’t likable or worth reading about.

Good luck.

~Thoughts~
I was gutted by the conclusion omg this is so why I love sam crescent she takes the darkness and makes me crave it and love it at the same time. Knowing how dark her world is, I love that it has the danger element as well as a strong woman who is soft but at the same time accepts the darkness that comes with being with said partners.
~Story~
I am just going to simplify it even though it's more than just these words. A High school involved with all the kids of powerful people who control the underworld from mafias to minions this high school it is not abnormal for blood to be spilled, Emily just wants to survive and be invisible but as the blub goes she saved Caleb and that's when everyone's lives changed. While there are signs of overshadowing, I give kudos to Emily. I can not wait for the next book to make me feel like an emotional mess because their love story is so intense and it's them protecting her.

Just remember before you go in... this is a CLIFFHANGER.

Now that that's out of the way... This was just okay for me. I love reverse harem stories & thought setting it in a high school would be a nice twist but I didn't feel the passion through my kindle screen nor the 'I love you' confessions the guys dished out. Heck, the leading lady didn't even have sex with two of the guys which is always a peeve of mine when reading this genre. Then to let her go so easily... Aargh.

If what I fear is true, (that there is a big time jump in years in the next book) I'll be very disappointed. It will be a complete turn-off if she stays all Monster Crew-pure & the guys go dipping their wicks in anything that sashays by them while she's away.

Until then... *fingers crossed*

So good

I am a complete newbie to this author and I was looking for something specific an RH with Alpha men, a strong FMC and not bully!! And I stumbled upon this jem!!

This book blew me away. I can’t believe I have never read any of this authors work before! It exceed all of my expectations. Multiple POV’s, betrayal, love and bloodshed.

Emily the FMC is a loner by choice with the life she has its the easiest way to survive.
But when she accidentally saves someone out of a sticky situation she gets the attention of the Monsters River, Gael, Vadik, and Caleb.

I loved this book and I am so glad we don’t have a long wait till book 2!!

Fine

My description for this story is just “fine.” Not great. This book didn’t hold much of my interest, but I was still drawn to the overall angle of the relationships between the MFC, Emily, and her boys so I kept reading. I liked the world they were from and I had higher hopes after Emily stabbed a guy in the neck to save Gael. The story was kind of just underwhelming and the author could’ve done a better job making us feel more connected/invested to the characters and their relationships. I also read spoilers for book 2 and absolutely HATE where the next book goes, so book one was a decent read and now I’m done with it.

Kindle. 3.8. Nice change up of not being a bully romance from the guys in this type of world. The supposed main plot points were surface and did not flow they just felt dropped in or brushed over. A lot was just insinuated to show events happening but nothing actually felt like it was happening. Storyline overall had no depth/connection and just wasn’t strong.
*not continuing to next book didn’t keep my interest enough

I was bored. I read the entire thing, but the MC is boring, the love interests aren't developed enough to be interesting, the book is predictable, and it moves at the pace of a snail. Not to mention the grammar errors. However, the world was interesting and the characters had promise at the beginning. It is a good idea, badly executed.

Honestly, the story wa decent, not great,or unique by any means. But paying 5.o0 for a story with so many grammatical errors is completely unacceptable. I had a hard time making sense of what the writer was trying to say,it was sooo confusing. I want my money back

Trash

How do you go through half a book, without ever getting a description of the main male characters?! Not to mention this is the most jovial thing I've ever read, it's like a twelve year old wrote it!

I've liked the story, but it felt too unbelievable and at times I felt like it was jumping from one thing to the other, without really cohesiveness.
I really liked the heroine and the guys were cool.

I already bought the second book, because I really wanted to keep reading.

Weak female lead

The book was way to fast paced. The story felt rushed and the female lead at first seemed strong but turns out she was weak.

Damn i wish Sam Crescent would write more RH books!!!!

I totally loved this book, it was a bit dark, hot and exciting all together.

Our heroine here, Emily, was so interesting. She is a strong girl, that doesn't have it easy in life, that doesn't have loving parents.I liked that she wasn't that super naive and crying heroine.

And the boys, Caleb, Vadik, Gael and River were dark in such a delicious way. It's not that cold hearted, asshole dark bad boy hero that most books have. They kill people, they don't care anyone outside their group and defintely don't give a shit about humiliate whoever they want, but still, they were never mean or dicks towards Emily, wich i loved it.They were just both intrigued and attracted to her and didn't care about taking it slow or hiding their feelings.

It's a book a little insta love but not all the way hahah. The boys were not like "oh she is ours" from the first time they saw her, but when things started to heat up they just knew it.The hot scenes had me biting my lips and clenching my legs together. Soo good. Please i need more RH from Sam Crescent!!!

PS: Sorry for any possible writing mistakes, i speak portuguese.

A fast paced action packed

Wowsers - couldn't stop reading this story. A dark corrupt mob town, the four 18yo boys are spoiled rotten and lost their childhoods to learn the business. The boys are violent and follow orders without hesitation, each noticed the quiet girl who sits at the back of every room and hides in every crowd.
Emily, a mob princess whose virginity is the prize sold to the highest bidder, whose father abused her leaving only scars and decimating her self esteem, her independence, her freedoms and choices. She is quiet, alert, aware, and ready for any new violence coming her way. She goes along, she takes the punches, follows the rules, and wonders if her only way out is on the blade of a knife.
Then she saves a monster, she opens the door to the boys that only watched, and they eagerly walked through into her life and refuse to leave.
The story is a dark fairy tale, full of heart ache in a sea of blood, with no foreseeable HEA. A page turner that I couldn't put down, the journey full of twist and I couldn't wait to see what happens next!!

Twisted

I liked this book but let me say that the world where Emily lives is twisted as hell. I think I've never read about such despicable, corrupted, and violent characters. There may be big triggers for some people: suicidal ideation, torture, murder, physical/mental/sexual abuse...😱
So the story speaks about Emily, a girl who lives in the monstruous city of Crude Hill. The only aim in Emily's life is being invisible and passing under the radar of everybody, especially at highschool. But the day she saved the life of one of the heir of the four ruling criminals families, the Monsters, she suddenly became the new obsession of the four heirs, four insane guys, and will have to face the consequences.
I really enjoyed the multiple POV in this book especially because for once they were well distributed.
This book is full of suspense and I have to read it in one day as I was so much tensed not knowing what would happen to Emily😅
Expext an heartbreaking end😔😢 and don't wait to read the second volume!

A surprisingly great book. I was afraid it would be a bully romance but thankfully it wasn't. There were still a domineering aspect with the boys, but that was just the mood of the book.

Crude Hill High is were the criminal world sends their children to school. Their parents are the worst of the worst, and their sons are to inherit their businesses, while the girls are sold into arranged marriages (and they will pay a lot for a virgin bride).

The monster crew are brothers by choice and their loyalty are to each other before to their fathers, who are the kings of the criminal world. Emily's father is a minion, but sees himself as more. She is living in hell, and survives by trying to be invisible at school, and that works untill she saves one of the monster crew's lives. And suddenly she has their attention.

Will have to see where this series goes.

If yoy like this I recommend:

● Home by Nikita Parmenter

I really loved this book! The ending HOLY SHIT! I just loved that each of the guys had a different relationship with Emily. I really like the underground mob/mafia elements and that Emily was the forbidden fruit for Vadik, Caleb, Gael and River. I liked learning about River and his kidnapping. I also liked that we learn about the guys' fathers having a rh of their own and that they were warning their sons due to personal experience. Also, the fathers are mean and ruthless but ultimately they love their sons. Back to Emily, I liked that there was an impending doom awaiting her throughout the novel. It just made all the intimate moments with the guys mean more. I liked that Emily was strong but cautious. I also loved the catalyst for the guys to start falling in love with her. Also, I just love academy/school settings for mob/mafia books featuring teenagers.

Tropes: academy setting, mafia families, enemies to lovers, very dark romance, why chose

This book series has been laying on my TBR for a very long time and I didn’t like the cover much to start it. Surprisingly I have opened it for trying for several pages and it captivated me so much that k couldn’t stop.

It has some vibes of „My bloodline“ from KC Kean, where the FMC also tries to rule the mafia family. Here however the whole action is very fast paced and the words ILU appear too fast in my opinion

Emilia was a decent FMC, surviving in conditions in which many people would break already and it made me appreciate her more

MMCs are kinda having more or less same personality so it was hard to identify who is who and what is going on

I’d still deem it as a good whychoose romance duet and finish the second book. The cliffy is good enough to opened the next book

Oh....my...

Well... Words are jumbling around in my head. One of my favourite authors a dark story of epic proportions. It kinda slogged for the first chapters or so then picked up. Four bad a$$e$ and their sons. A off the norm high school and a girl who wants to be free.
Emily likes her solitude, its safer to mind your own businesses in a school that death comes easily. One evening and it all changes...
The monsters have her in sight and in hand. The Monsters know pain first hand receiving as well as giving. They also know the game their fathers' head.
Betrayal always comes at a cost. The beauty of rules... Is that they're never broken.
Fab first book love the characters and the story. Hate the ending (glad I have the next book.))

Love this duet!

I waiting until the second book was released before I read this book. Sam Crescent us one of them authors who's stories fill you with so much. The FMC Em just wanted her own life to be her own person. You could feel how angry she was at the roll she was supposed to play. She never intended to find love the way she did with four monsters as they call themselves. A truly great duet of books!.

EXCELLENT STORY 😁

I don't read YA stories often, but I got offered this book and decided to try it 🤔. Well, I'm glad I did 😃. This is a awesome story of a young woman who is born into a society that has it's own rules and doesn't allow change 😣. She finds love anyways with four of the local up and coming bad boys 😍. But, it still doesn't change the rules 😖. Thanks Sam, I truly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next 🤓.

A dark, amazing monster story. Stuff of nightmares.

This was definitely a twisted, dark yet ever so seductive story. Human monsters are definitely scarier than the bogeyman and vamps. Emily vs the Monster squad is both twisted yet beautifully sad. Even monsters deserve love whatever it is. Very well written, quite evocative and powerful and oh so scary the damage humans do. Looking forward to next installment.

Raw and Real

I loved this book and was hooked from page one! Emily was so lost in herself and her pain that she wasn't really living... And then Caleb, Gael, River and Vadik barged into her life and wouldn't let her just keep existing! This is the first book I've read by Sam Crescent and it won't be the last. Well written, great characters, twisty plot - all a great recipe for a great book!
