What to Expect:
➼ Fae Royalty
➼ Slow Burn
➼ Magical Enchantments
➼ Evil Queen
➼ Sisterhood
➼ MMC’s with Partial Amnesia
➼ Third Person POV

I’m going to keep this short because my issues with this series are becoming pretty repetitive. Out of the three, this book had the most interesting plot, but I’m still really struggling to connect with the characters or feel any spark with the romance.

Reading the synopsis of each book, I would expect to love them, but the writing style feels very impersonal. Third person POV certainly doesn’t help, but I’ve read plenty of third person books that were executed well. This book sadly isn’t one of them. The writing is uncomfortably formal at times which makes the characters feel pretty unrelatable. There is talk of “love” in the book, but there’s barely a trace of intimacy or chemistry to be found. There was at least a little forward momentum with their relationship in this book, but not much considering how slow burn the series has been.

The FMC has made countless poor decisions throughout the series and I just know I’m about to be super annoyed in the next book when she inevitably saves the day as our special snowflake. 🙄 I really think I should just skip it but I hate to leave a series unfinished…

✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

Pre-read: might be delulu thinking I can finish 9 more books before the end of the year… 🙃

Thank you BookSirens and the author for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've really enjoyed reading this series. While I didn't like this one as much as the first two books, it was intriguing and ended on a cliffhanger that left me eager for the next (final?) book. I love the whimsical feel that Kay L. Moody has created in this series. I'm excited to see what happens next.

Crown of Bitter Thorn is a great addition to The Fae of Bitter Thorn series, and it picks up shortly after the last book ended. Moody’s fae world continues to expand, and we are taken to new kingdoms and are introduced to new and often frightening supernatural beings and creatures. Equally fascinating is the political intrigue as Prince Brannick and Elora try to gain allies against the queen. There are so many ulterior and hidden motives that Elora and the prince never know who they can fully trust or who is actually on their side.

Elora goes through a lot in the story and repeatedly puts herself in danger to protect Brannick, his kingdom, and his people. Determined to save Faerie and all who have been hurt by the evil High Queen Alessandra, Elora’s love for Brannick and the fae world fuels her. She is a determined and brave woman, persistent in her goals even when faced with the impossible. She’s also really kind and compassionate. She has such a tender heart, and she truly cares for those she meets. Elora always wants to do better and make things better, and she is stubborn, resilient, and extremely courageous.

I love that we see more of Elora’s sisters in this book. Like the other characters in the story, Elora’s younger sisters are well-developed and interesting. They only humans in Faerie, they have more to offer the fae than expected. The detestable queen becomes an even more dynamically developed character as well, and the story delves more into her reasons for wanting Brannick and power. I found this aspect of the novel interesting, and though it didn’t make me like her character more, it definitely provided good insight into her misguided and power-hungry notions.

The love story between Elora and Brannick continues to flourish, though I did hope for a little more in the romance department, especially in the first half of the book. After what happened at the end of the last book and what Elora did for Brannick, I found his initial treatment of her a bit extreme and unusual. His actions in this first half of the book contrasted with my expectations, but I think this has a lot to do with the fact that Brannick is not very experienced with feeling such deep and strong emotions for another person. I do like how their relationship progresses, especially in the second half of the book! It seems as if they are on more equal terms in this book, and I have a feeling their relationship is only going to get better from here!

Finally, can I just say how much I love Brannick’s wolf Blaz? A fiercely loyal and intelligent companion who becomes a great support and asset to Elora and Brannick, Blaz is also so sweet and caring. Blaz, the consummate protector, has some pretty cool magical gifts too.

Like all of Moody’s stories, this story has a ton of action, suspense, and a plethora of interesting and dynamically developed characters. And that ending! She’s the master of cliffhangers! I can’t wait to read the fourth book in the series and see if Brannick and Elora can help Faerie and find their own happy ending. Thanks so much to Kay L. Moody for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Loved it! I've been gushing about this series since the last 2 books and the 3rd one is equally good. Even though it didn't come across as fast-paced as the previous ones, I liked how it explored the characters' emotions. Elora experiences fear like never before and the added trauma she suffers doesn't make things any easier.

I think this book was a bit darker than the previous ones, but it was needed to show how critical things had become in Faerie.

Another thing I liked was that magic didn't come quickly to Elora. Usually, books have the protagonist struggling a little with new magic but a few pages later she has it under control and towards the end, she has gained mastery on it. In this case, the process was frustrating but realistic.

This book had a lot of twists as well that kept me on edge. Unfortunately, it ended on a cliffhanger and the next book comes out in September, so I'll be going crazy wondering what happens next. Hopefully, it will be the last one otherwise the story would drag unnecessarily. Recommending it to all fantasy lovers.

unfortunately, i felt the crown of bitter thorn was lacking compared to the previous book. this could be because i whizzed through the castle of bitter thorn, and was still on a bit of a high.

one thing i particularly hated about the crown of bitter thorn is the sisters. in the previous two books, they’re mentioned but not actually there. in crown of bitter thorn, they’re there and their annoying. this could be their age, but i found them very immature and frustrating to deal with.

brannick was also a little annoying at the start. i found him broody and whatnot. yawn.

at least the romance picked up a little bit. previously, there was mentions of liking one another but never actions that showed it. crown of bitter thorn wasn’t perfect, but it did start to show me their feelings.

overall, the storyline was good, however i felt it did drag in the middle.

Once again, the plot thickens...

High Queen Alessandra threatens all the faerie courts with her plans to manipulate emotions and thereby gain more control and power.

Brannick and his counsel continue to be a thorn in her side, but in order to overthrow her, all the remaining courts she doesn't control must agree to stand behind Brannick and feed power into the Crown of Bitter Thorn until it can overpower Alessandra's crown. But the question is...will Brannick be able to gain enough support and will he be able to pull his broken heart together enough to be able to rule?

Another fast-paced installment in the Fae of Bitter Thorn series. Like the last book, this one is packed with twists and ends on a cliffhanger. I found it very enjoyable and devoured the whole book at a brisk pace, continually wanting to know what would happen next. Four out of five stars. I look forward to reading and reviewing the final book in the series and seeing how it concludes. Thank you to BookSirens and Kay L. Moody for the free copy. I wavered for a bit on what to rate this book. I decided on three stars because while it's my least favorite of the series, the ending was strong and featured an enticing cliffhanger.

We know that Elora survives the shard (or else there wouldn't even be a book 3). It was still interesting to see the process she had to go through to let go of her mortal life and become fae. Her "meeting" Faerie itself was sort of cool.

I liked that Brannick brought her sisters to the Fae as Elora requested, even knowing she might not wake up. For me, this is the first time he's done something that made me feel like he has actual feelings for her.

That said, her doing what she did with the shard felt a bit selfish and ill-thought through. Unlike at every other turn, she doesn't give a thought to how her sisters would be affected by her death, or by what might happen to Brannick (who we know likes her because of his oath to Queen Alessandra and that he can't touch her).

Once Elora woke up as a fae, she became whiny and annoying for me. All of sudden this girl who has been so trying to resist Faerie suddenly knows all and is a big believer and is immediately grumpy when no one will let her help. She can't even use her magic yet (and despite Brannick telling her numerous times that no one can teach her, she keeps asking, even though she knows fae can't lie).

Also, the thing with Elora saving the sprites was weird. She vowed to do it, but kept getting distracted. At one point, she tries to steal some spears a sprite tells her she'll need but we have no idea why. She fails to steal them, and then doesn't think about the sprites again for a good long while.

Her sisters being around was a breath of fresh air and they had an unexpected and light-hearted effect on the plot. Things didn't really start to get interesting until near the end with Queen Alessandra and the roses.

**Spoilers below**

Not a fan of the twist that Elora has been to Faerie before and was the one to help Brannick escape Fairfrost the first time. While this may explain the largely unexplained feelings of love between Brannick and Elora (for me, they spend almost no time building a relationship or falling in love, it just seems to happen one day), we don't actually get to see what happened, even after Elora gets her memories back.

**

Overall, this was a solid book whose action-packed ending and cliffhanger are what will propel me into the fourth book. I would recommend this book to those who have read the first two and who enjoy fae, magic, and fantasy.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"Love is not something you earn once and never fight for again. Love requires constant nurturing.
In return, it often gives more than deserved."

Unlike the second book, the pacing turns back into a slower one for the third book. Nevertheless, I'm still able to enjoy the story especially with the new addition of Elora's sisters who join her in Faerie.
Not just Elora's sister, there are other rulers involves and we can see which of them can be trusted and which of them are not.
The world building itself also expands a bit since we got to visit other courts as well.

This story explores more about what happen to Elora after being turned from mortal to Fae. Especially about her feelings and how she struggles to find her place on this new Fae world with a new body.

She's having a lot of hard times in understanding and controlling her power after turning to a Fae and people keep reminding her that she's not a true fae unless she can do that. It put pressures on her which makes her feel unlike her confident usual self.
Not to mention, she also went through one difficult times alone that break her physically and mentally.

Thankfully, Brannick really support and protect Elora, helping her to regain her confident and overcome her fears. Their relationship went even deeper in this desperate times trying to overthrow the nasty High Queen.
Although, he's a bit annoying for being mad at Elora for too long and unable to see Elora's reason for doing what she had to do to save him. He's a grown man yet he's sulking like a kid!

I can't believe the author manage to make another big cliffhanger right at the end of the book! I really wish I have the next book right now to see what Elora will do!

Overall, this is a really good continuation on the Fae of Bitter Thorn series. Slow pacing, but packed with twists and actions. I'm enjoying the addition of the new characters, expanding the world building, and exploring more about Elora and Brannick's relationship!
I'm looking forward to read the final book in this series and see the happy ending they deserve!

Honestly, Kay just blows me away with each of these books. These characters are great- and now that they are firmly established, as well as the world, the plot has taken off at a sprint! You'd think after how the last book ended (and therefore how this one started) that Elora would have a much easier time in Faerie.

That is SO not the case, and I'm very impressed with the author for coming up with so much to throw at Elora still. Even with the changes that took place at the beginning of the book, things are somehow SO MUCH worse/harder for her now.

In large part because of Ansel and Queen Alessandra, of course... (What amazing villains!)

The climax was amazing! I'm very concerned for how they're going to pull things together for the last book, but of course, that just means that Kay is doing an absolutely PERFECT job with this story! You certainly can't say there's nothing at stake here.

Anxiously awaiting the next installment. I already know that it, too, will blow me away! <3

Crown Of Bitter Thorn is the third book in the The Fae Of Bitter Thorn series by Kay L Moody. Elora is finally Fae and determined to help Brannick to become High King. They try to convince the other rulers to give power to the Crown of Bitter Thorn so they can overthrow High Queen Alessandra. But it's not always that easy and so they dive into a new adventure.

Crown Of Bitter Thorn is a fantastic sequel which is suspenseful throughout the whole book. It has many twists and turns and is loaded with action. We get to know the characters from the first books better and see how they evolve. All in all I really enjoyed this book and I can recommend it to everyone who read the first two books!

Just Die Already, Alessandra

Alessandra (or should I say High Queen Alessandra) is like a bad penny. She always turns up, uninvited and unwanted. Poor Prince Brannick. It’s bad enough that the Prince’s court is cursed, but she has the audacity to torment him and Elora every chance she gets. She must be stopped, but who is powerful enough to do so? Will she ever get what’s coming to her, and will Brannick and Elora get to explore their relationship? Book 4 comes out mid September… I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Crown of Bitter Thorn by Kay L. Moody is the third book in The Fae of Bitter Thorn series.
It starts where the cliffhanger in book two left off and Elora is in a whole new situation. I love the way the relationship between Branick and Elora developed in this story. The action picks up and High Queen Alessandra is causing all sorts of problems again, as evil queens do. I can't wait to finish the fourth book.

This one once again picks up where we left off but still a bit slow. It makes sense and speeds up kept my interest the entire time. I cannot get enough of prince brannick and cannot wait to see what happens next. This author has such a way of captivating the audience and keeping them engaged even throughout detailed portions that I want to reread the series in anticipation of what is yet to come.

Review of the audio book, read by Caitlin Davies.

I’m not sure if I should enjoy a female narrator doing male voices more than the female voices but in this series, I do.

This book started out slow but once Elora’s sisters came on the scene things started to pick up. I quite enjoyed the ending and look forward to listening to the next book.

Fantastic Book 3!

This one had me turning the pages almost nonstop. I read it in less than 24 hours.

It’s fun to watch Elora adjusting to who she now is. The relationship between her and Brannick has some fantastic progression in this book. (This is sweet romance that focuses more on emotion than physicality.)

There’s a lot of adventure in this one, and the ending left me on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to Book 4 in September!

Started skimming. The juvenile characters stomped, huffed and grunted their way through every scene. Still could not see how Elora an Brannick fell in love. "Beloved" appeared out of the blue.

Elora was never content. She always wanted something and sromped/ threw tantrums when she couldn't have it.

Firstly, I would like to thank BookSirens for providing me with a free copy of Crown of Bitter Thorn to read and give an honest review of.

Everything really did change for Elora at the end of the second book and coming into Crown of Bitter Thorn. While a good portion of this book was spent with Elora and Brannick at odds, it didn't feel forced or out of character for either of them. The difficulties surrounding the whole court of Bitter Thorn made all of the strife and stress that each character was going through seem quite natural for their characters.

Elora, especially, went through a lot of emotional growth through this book - which I'm quite pleased to have read. In the first two novels, Elora was quite childish in some of her actions. Though headstrong, and confident, ready to fight whenever her sense of what was right called for it - she always ended up getting herself into more trouble than not. Well, that same instinct got her into trouble that she couldn't come out unscathed from this time.

A good portion of the book shows Elora then suffering from the PTSD of the situation she'd been forced into when she, herself, went against the orders she was given to stay safe. She threw herself into the fray and suffered greatly for it throughout the rest of the story thereafter. But, I also think that this helped her character to grow quite a bit. It made sense that she would suffer after what she had endured and I would have been really upset if the author had ignored it and had Elora go back to the way she'd been before all the things that had happened to her.

However, I will say that this novel ends on a cliff hanger, and it is not an easy one.

Overall, I think the story was quite good and I enjoyed the character growth quite a great deal. Though, I also feel that this novel has less meat to it than the previous two. While a lot happens, it also still feels like nothing really happens at the same time. It's a lot of events and actions that just feel like dead space and come across a little more empty than the previous books. While the setup for what might be the finale of the series (I am not sure if it is, but it could be) is understandable, Crown of Bitter Thorn still felt a little more on the slow side of things for me. A lot was going on, and it was certainly entertaining, but compared to the previous two it just felt as if there was something just a bit different.

It is still quite enjoyable - but I would say that if you're expecting the same weight of the previous two novels, that this one is slightly less bulky. There is a great deal of action and adventure to be had, plenty of banter and exciting moments, but somehow it still feels slightly less. This is not a knock on the author or the story itself, just a small warning to those who are enjoying the series as I am.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, and I'm enjoying the series as a whole. I'm quite eager to read Queen of Bitter Thorn and to have all the important events that need to happen unfold. There are so many questions still to answer, so many things that I want to happen...

I don't think anything beats pelting Queen Alessandra in the mouth with a snowball to get her to shut up, though. 100/10, would snowball in the face again.

Well here we are, book 3 in The Fae of Bitter Thorn series. It is the penultimate book in the series and book 4 has been set up very nicely and promises to be explosive!

The story picks up shortly after book two ended, so there is not much needed in terms of rehash, though Moody does a fantastic job providing it when needed. The fae world continues to expand as we are taken to new kingdoms and meet new and powerful characters in each realm. The political intrigue has definitely stepped up its game as Prince Brannick and Elora try to gain allies so they can overthrow the queen. So many ulterior and hidden motives are lurking in the realms that Elora and Brannick don't know who they trust, and who is really on their side.

Elora goes through so much in this story and she really is showing how strong she really is. She repeatedly puts herself in danger to protect not only Brannick but his kingdom, his people, ad those that she loves. As an FMC, she is determined, resilient, persistent, kind, stubborn, and compassionate. She wants to help in any way that she can and she really tries her best at every turn- even when things seem impossible.

Brannick continues to grow in this book as well. Not only as a man but as a king, he is wanting to make things better for his people and will stop at nothing to accomplish his goal. As a fae, he is not very experienced with feelings but he is trying to earn the love and respect that he so desperately wants and has to share. It does seem as if Elora and Brannick are on more equal terms in this book, as well as finally being on the same page. I can't wait to see where this relationship goes!

We also see more of Elora’s sisters in this book, and they provide a fresh breath of air in the group. They help provide a humor that breaks up the dreary times and they soon settle into the group very easily and are welcomed. They are the only humans in the group but they have more to offer than the fae first expected. I look forward to seeing what becomes of them in the next book.

This story has loads of action and suspense, with quite a few twists added in. Some characters have dubious trustworthiness to them and then there are some stalwart allies, and they all have to work together to save Fae. The writing is so clear and flows so easily that you can get lost in it. Everything is detailed so well and it moves with such natural grace that you will be transported entirely. A very good book and series that I would recommend!
