Seriously good.
And sexy as hell. It's not a word I use often. Sexy. But if there is a word that can describe the entire book that is the one. Hot is too aggressive grammatically speaking but this book wasn't aggressive. It was smooth, solid and with a rhythm I find enviable. I'm utterly impressed.
The characters are to be framed and put on a wall. I liked them instantly, they are that way. They were themselves and there is a honesty in them I couldn't deny that attracted me since the very beginning. Curious thing, as Beck is a closet case. And Jeremy, who was considered "white trash", wants to forget the past and get a better future for himself.
The chemistry is palpable. I could feel part of their lives as if I were diving head first into the pool. Right away it was fresh and fluid and it never declines. I liked how they tried to get away from each other but couldn't. This leads to uncomfortable and hot situations. that have you hopping and bitting your lip waiting for the explosion to happen. You are all the time feeling the heat, they are pure dynamite and only a spark is necessary to start a fire.
Jeremy's goal is to seduce Beck, and Beck's goal is to ignore him. The game begins.
When you feel there is nothing left to be done and nothing else to solve, you wonder why there are so many pages to be read. So you go on and discover there are more surprising situations you never considered before. It's not that the author cheats and makes new plots out of the blue just to sell more paper. It's just that you think the love story is finished but it really isn't. There is a sense of completion the whole while, and at the same time, there is always something more to show.
And who says oneself can't learn from romance novels? I didn't know the sexy V on a man was called Adonis Belt. I tell ya, me learning a lot in every field under the sun.
I usually give 4 stars to books that are perfect. But I also stop and think for a minute or two about it and use a bit of criticism and analyze weak spots. I should point to the plot being a little surrealist. Losing the scholarship just because your mates or coach get aware of you being gay sounds stupid to me.
Also, there is a moment . In my world, at least in a public hospital, the doctor receives the diary nursery report and it says: "I found the patient's boyfriend in the bed with her, I ordered him to get out of the bed". It happened to me once. Yes, it's an uncomfortable situation for people who work there, the gender is not the problem. I don't know how private hospitals work, so maybe in the USA it's allowed. Anyway, this scene is so ridiculous for me I couldn't hold back a laugh.
The last straw was the being a pair. It was totally predictable. When a person is portrayed like that there is no place for surprise. It was a small anticlimax. And please there are not THAT many gay people! Thank goodness. Don't look at me like that, I want men for me, too!

Fuck this utterly pooptastic book. I just wasted an hour and a half of my life I'll never get back. I DNF'd late in the game and since I had to endure this crap I decided to rate it.
Reasons:
1. One of the MCs, Beck is so far in the closet he fucks all the fuckboys on campus and apparently everybody knows. Plus his reason for being in the closet is implausible. You can't lose a scholarship due to sexual identity....u can however be afraid of the fall out from teammates and use that fear to hide. Understandable but inaccurate.
2. The other MC Jeremy, is escaping from small town USA where his Dad is a crazy alcoholic and his Mother is a meth addict. He is turned off by guys who drink but the minute he's in a club and offered a drug he doesn't know...he takes the word of someone he barely knows that it doesn't show up on drug testing (he's a athlete) and gets high not once but twice. WTF? Not only that but he's never been able to be free with his sexuality in his hometown and only ever been with closeted dudes and wants the chance to be out, proud and fall in love. So yeah....he latches on to the most closeted dude on campus knowing he'll never have what he wants. But he just can't stay away. Wahhhhhhh.
3. Cue the random threesome with both MCs plus the guy Beck uses for sex whenever he feels like it (who doesn't even like Beck and ridicules him for being in the closet). Yuck.
4. Beck is in the closet but he's runnin around like a lunatic basically almost outing himself left and right because Jeremy is just sooooooo HAWT.
5. Lots of I want you! But I CAN'T! I need you! But I just CAN'T! Wahhhhhh.
6. Unprotected shower sex without lube. Maybe they thought the water would wash away the yuckies and lubricate the way??? Nope, not gonna touch that one.
6. Asst Coach videotapes the locker room and views the MCs have sex then confronts Jeremy with going public and threatens Becks scholarship so Jeremy gives him a BJ to keep him quiet.
7. And my favorite. Beck comes out whilst Jeremy is being throat raped by the coach and everything is fine...all of the back and forth, the fear and the drama was for NOTHING.
And I'm out....I think I need to break up with NA. I'm beginning to fear for my son ever leaving the house. They can't really be that stupid...can they? Don't answer that.

This was a solid MM read for me. The drama and storyline were a tad on the immature side--afterall the MCs were a freshman and a junior in college--but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Jeremy is just starting college, trying out for the wrestling team. He's from a small town, deadbeat parents. He wasn't a closet gay but his lifestyle wasn't exactly accepted in high school and in town.
Most of the time he was just a dirty secret. Going to college meant a chance for Jeremy to find a real relationship. To not have to hide. To be free to be whomever he wants.
Beck is the school's star wrestler. He's a junior and meets Jeremy one of the first days of school. There's an instant attraction. But Beck is not openly gay. He's afraid if his coaches and teamates find out he is gay, he'll lose his scholarship.
I mean discrimination.....hello??
Beck and Jeremy hook up. But Beck is honest from the get-go....he makes it clear
Well Jeremy has already been there and done that so
Beck decides he wants more with Jeremy.
Things get hot and heavy. But just as things start to get good the drama hits.
The drama really picked up the lat 25% of the book. The locker room scene I was screaming
Don't do it. Don't fall for it Jeremy. Oh damn....
Overall, I enjoyed this one. It was a quick read. Had plenty of steam and some lol moments.

I could go on listing all the other things I hated about this book - but frankly, I'm tired. This book wore me out and wore me down. It was a real slog to get through and bottom line is I hated it.

I loved the first 3/4 of this book. The last part was a little too much drama and it all worked out just a little too perfectly for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I like an HEA/HFN ending, I'd just prefer it to be more realistic and less CSI/MacGyver.
The writing overall was very good and the sexy times were smokin HOT!
I'd read more from this author and I'd recommend this book to friends.

I have no idea how to review this. On the one hand I quite liked it, but there were so many things ‘wrong’ in this book that I’m hesitant to ever read something else from this author.
- I liked Jeremy. He was cute, fun and fierce.
- The push and pull between Jeremy and Beck wasn’t too bad. Beck got his head out of his ass in time for me to still have some respect for him.
- Everything felt so intense in this book. I liked that I was really into it. I could not stop reading.
But..
- I really had trouble with what the best friend, Gretchen, said about Jeremy. That Jeremy was beneath Beck? That he could do better? She didn’t even know Jeremy! Some best friend that is…
- Even though it was horrifying what Jeremy went through, the fact that he decided to not tell anyone, had me raging!
I am never okay with characters keeping something this important and traumatic to themselves. It’s stupid and only adds to the drama in a book. Not my cup of tea.
- I felt the issues with the parents were underdeveloped. Go all the way, or leave it out. Suddenly bringing Beck to Jeremy's parent’s house felt off somehow. Especially because they didn’t talk about if before. It is suddenly mentioned they are going to visit.
So there were things I liked and things I didn’t like. Overall, this is a very intense book, with very intense emotions all around. I can honestly say I enjoyed it, but can’t give it more stars.

Maris Black has become one of my favourite authors! I love her writing style and her books!
This was so good and while I was reading it I did not know that the characters from Owning Cory would feature in it and that was a lovely surprise!
Jeremy had a horrible life before starting college!
Beck was from a rich background who was in the closet! Beck never saw any of his hook ups more than once but he fell for Jeremy and the feeling was mutual. But Beck was on the wrestling team and felt he couldn't let them know he was gay, although Jeremy was also on the wrestling team he wasn't bothered about people knowing!
Towards the end something happened and Jeremy couldn't cope but things did improve!

The book seemed to rush itself all the time. Both characters say one thing but do the other, the miscommunication is astonishing. The writing wasn't bad tho.

Oh what a delicious college M/M….With wrestling no less:-P
I liked both MCs a lot, and I loved the build-up of their romance (not a long one, but felt good, not like some weird insta-love).
The people around them were also interesting, both Beck’s gang and Jeremy’s friends.
And it was hot. Super sexy hot. I absolutely loved the scene in the club with Dan, ungh..All the sex scenes were hot, and they never got boring.
The plot around the romance was, hm. A lot. There was almost too much drama in the end (not including Jeremy’s home situation).
But I’m not sure if I’m really complaining, since the book definitely never got boring at any point.
What I felt could have been removed totally was
I also felt that Jeremy’s character in the beginning in the book was a bit different from the end. On the other hand, maybe his tough surface was just a surface. But growing up like he did, I would have expected him to react differently
Now I want to read more about hot, dancing Dan.

Collegiate love story that hits a couple gravel patches.
Overall, very enjoyable though one or two OTT moments and a colossally bad decision detracted a bit from my reading pleasure. Jeremy is a guy who is finally escaping the prison of childhood, good riddance:
He's got a plan and he's charging full steam ahead with a passion when a bright, shiny thing distracts him--Beck. Beck is a walking fantasy to Jeremy. Reality check. Jeremy's got to decide what he really wants because he's not getting exactly what he wants.
Drama. Two steps forward, one back. Another back. Step to the side. Anyway, there's the expected friends inserting opinions and "advice" aka meddling. Though I really have a soft spot for Truck and Dan. And surprise! There are females in this book that aren't heinous.

Hhhmmmm....I do love the whole OFY college athlete storyline and this one didn't disappoint. The MC's had great chemistry. The angst level was just right. And the story really drew me in. This is the first book I've read by this author and I'll definitely be going back for more. I thought the whole coming out scene was done really well. I particularly liked the scene where Beck came out to his friends. I also thought it was really clever There were a couple of things that I thought were a little over the top, but in the end, loved the characters too much to care. 4.25 stars.

I so loved the MCs here. They’re both awfully adorable! What irks me though was the issue about the coach getting his way to Jeremy. That’s just for me though, as a whole – the story’s such a real treat!

I’m realizing Maris Black makes some pretty entertaining books. Not the best of the best but still… pretty good.
There were a few things with this book that simply made no sense to me. For one, Beck’s reason to stay in the closet seemed pretty inaccurate to me. Like a lot of shit could have been prevented if only he used his brain a little more. A lot of the scenes were great and I really liked Beck’s and Jeremy’s dynamic and their roles in the relationship; it all seemed to fit really well. I got a bit angry at the beginning because I felt like Beck was being highly inconsiderate of Jeremy because of his refusal to accept him as a boyfriend and Jeremy wasn’t doing anything about it but that all got fixed later on.
I have one major issue though. The author went seriously overboard with the plot climax. Like what the hell, it's like she lost all sense of reality when writing the end. Nothing that was happening seemed really plausible; like that’s not how real life works! I got seriously angry because I didn’t agree with any of Jeremy’s actions, no matter the cause and then after everything happened everyone acted like nothing happened. I don’t know, it just seemed so fake to me. I like to really experience books as if they were real life, and I couldn’t with this one. Just towards the end though.

I got seriously angry because I didn’t agree with any of Jeremy’s actions, no matter the cause and then after everything happened everyone acted like nothing happened. I don’t know, it just seemed so fake to me. I like to really experience books as if they were real life, and I couldn’t with this one. Just towards the end though.
It was a good MM romance though, and I’m definitely reading more Maris Black.

I admit that what really caught my attention about this book is that it’s about wrestling. I’m not a fan of wrestling but put in a book and gay themed? Oh man. That got me wanting to read this so much and I was really getting hot for the main characters even just after reading the blurb.
Jeremy Miller wants freedom more than anything in his life. Freedom from his hellish life in Trailer Park and freedom to be himself and finally have a real boyfriend. So College was his best shot to finally make anything out himself and build a new life. But nothing prepared him to be head over heels with Beck, the wrestling team captain, and the problems that goes along with someone on the closet.
And Beck? He is in the closet but he does occasional causal hookups but never ever dated anyone he hookups with. That’s the rule. The golden one. And getting all tied up in knots for someone wasn’t on his agenda. But with Jeremy? He can rethink all his plans and rules, right?
A great read! I am glad that this book did not disappoint me and I really enjoyed this one. Couldn’t put this down. It just sucked me in with the main characters that are engaging, the scenes and the setting of this book. I like the mix of their character traits. Beck, who is sweet and possessive and Jeremy with his shy personality but can be dominating when put in bed. Put that all together? We get this really hot and enjoyable book.
The plot is pretty much solid for me. The first half of the story was really my favorite part of this book. The part where they are feeling each other if the other is gay or not. And I just love their moves in that part. Especially Beck’s. The dual point of view also made the story more engaging. It makes the unfolding of the story more interesting because it gives us the character’s perception on the situation they are in. That’s one of the things I really like about this book.
There are some parts that bothered me though. But it’s minimal. Maybe because it was not just my scene or I’m not comfortable with it. But other than that, this is enjoyable and engaging book. A joyride!
Sometimes all I need is this kind of book to make my days complete. I would go to my room and spend the rest of the day there.

I admit, I almost DNFed this one, but I made myself keep going, and I'm glad I did. It turned out to be a much sweeter story than I was fearing, and Beck didn't take nearly as long to come out to his buddies as I thought it would.
I admit, there were a couple of things that happened in the last 20% of the book that really made me go "WTF", and I think the story would have been much better without them, or maybe just the one thing, but on the whole, I enjoyed the book. I also would have like to have seen Jeremy (huge plot spoiler)

The rating would have been higher except for the fact that I have a major problem with not calling rape what it is. If an author has the cojones to write the scene then she owes it to the reader to address the seriousness of it, not down play it. I'm also disappointed that we're left hanging about how Becks family reacted. Otherwise this could have been 5 stars.

What the heck can I say about this book? It was awesome!
I love wrestlers, like LOVE LOVE them!! I was a wrestling cheerleader in high school just so I could go to all the wrestling meets and get in free and whatnot. It worked out perfectly for me! Then I saw this book and it was an instant buy for me!
Miss Black creates two characters that draw you in from the very beginning. Jeremy comes from a small town where he was the different poor kid with an alcoholic father and a drug abusing mother. His outlook on life is pretty good for the shitty life he's led and he's hoping to walk onto the wrestling team at SSU.
Beck is a junior, captain of the wrestling team, and he save Jeremy from a fight his first day at college. The spark between them is instant and the fire it ignites is all consuming. Beck has NEVER considered coming out during his wrestling career as his scholarship is athletic and he can't get kicked off the team or he loses it.
The war waged inside of him is heart breaking but the hurt that it inflicts on Jeremy broke my heart. These two boys want each other but Beck isn't sure how he can make that happen. They are drawn to each other though and can't avoid each other forever.
Things happen that bring them together and then tear them the fuck apart again and it really fucking sucks for them! I was so mad for them, I wanted to jump into the book and comfort them and beat the fucking shitballs out of a certain someone.
I don't want to ruin the plot because holy fucking blindside, Batman. This author blew my mind toward the end. I ugly cried for Beck and Jeremy and the ending, just GAH! So sweet!
The cast of secondary characters, both from Jeremy and Beck's sides are awesome. I was really interested in not only the main plot line, but the lives of the others. The wrestling boys are such good friends and Seth and Dan were so damn supportive it made me smile.
I really would LOVE to see a second book, maybe about Seth and Dan or just to see them find some happiness! Great job with this one! Write me some more books about sexy ass wrestlers in hot pink jock straps!! (Or, yanno, just some outtakes of Jeremy and Beck having hot, sweaty sex would work too!!)

College Athlete OFY...yup, definitely a yay combo for me!
I thought this was gonna be you basic run of the mill story (which don't get me wrong, I pretty much love them all) but it had it's own quirks and made it stand out just a bit more.
Jeremy & Beck were great characters with awesome chemistry. Becks best friend what's her name..I didn't like her, even a little bit. Hot Pink or Yellow Jock Straps...Hell Yes! Despite some ott happenings, there was a good plot with angst in all the right places. I'd love to catch up with these guys again some day.

This is a new author to me but one I'm going to watch. She is still just rough enough that her story reads as totally from the heart. I enjoyed the pace and who couldn't adore Beck and Jeremy? There was a good group of secondary characters, a lot of the vulnerable innocence found in college kids. There was a good amount of angst but I was so caught up in the story that it did not bother me. The story was over before I new it but it ended on such a high note that a sequel might only hurt it.

***4.5 stars*** I gotta be honest, I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. I enjoyed listening to Beck and Jeremy's story. I loved how Beck was so growly and protective, but could also be sweet. Jeremy and his trailer park background kind of broke my heart, but I'm glad he found his happily ever after. The audiobook narrator, Chris Patton, did a great job. Will definitely continue on with this series. It sounds like Dan's story is next!

I used to wrestle and I was intrigued by this book. I listened to the audiobook version and to be honest, I was surprised how much I liked this story. The main characters are hot and likable, there is some angst, hot sex and the plot goes in an unexpected direction.

This book has what I'll call "two day syndrome." What do I mean by that? I mean, when I started to read it, I was totally enraptured and thoroughly enjoying myself, but come the next day when I went back to it, I found myself a lot less into what was going on. This isn't terribly uncommon for me, it's just a bummer.
Pinned is about Jeremy, a freshman with a rough past who is ready to start anew at college, and Beck, a popular junior with big dreams when it comes to wrestling. As it turns out, wrestling isn't the only thing these two have in common, and they soon find themselves in a sticky situation involving lust, love, and a deep closet.
To start, I will say that this story has a great wit to it. I was smiling multiple times. At one point, toward the end, I was thinking something and then one of the characters basically put it into words for me which I thought was hilarious.
I also liked the characters for the most part. Seth and Truck were probably my favorite side characters. I did have an issue with the two sides of Jeremy at times. It's very clear that he switches between this macho take-no-prisoners attitude and a shy boy-next-door kind of vibe. I don't mind that those two things go together, but I thought the transition between them could've been better done. It started off good with the dominance coming out when threatened or in sexual situations, but at parts there was a disconnect.
Additionally, I had times when I was annoyed by Jeremy. A few times he tried to do this puppy dog thing that I just found a bit ridiculous and some of his behavior was a bit childish, but I found it interesting that even Beck acknowledged this element of immaturity due to youth, and appreciated that bit.
I also found that the drama at the end was just too much for me. I like angst as much as the next person, but it was just too much for me and not handled in a way that I found realistic at all. I was also thrown for a loop when who I'm assuming are characters from another book popped in out of nowhere and apparently knew Jeremy. I didn't read this other book, and if Jeremy was in it, I didn't know, so it was really random to me and it almost made me think you had to read the other book for that interaction to make sense since those characters weren't brought up at all previously.
But damn, the sex was hot as all get out. Especially that locker room scene. (Though I had to suspend my thoughts about lack of lube, I got over that pretty quickly with Beck being super delicious.)
From the start I said this is a book people will either love or hate, and I stand by that. The cheesy, dramatic bit of fun isn't for everyone, but I did enjoy myself despite the flaws and will certainly keep an eye on this author.
