GTO is a guilty pleasure for me. I have since steered myself clear of acquiring more manga, except for the classic stories and GTO was on of those titles that survived the cut.
Still, Tokyopop's production values leave something to be desired. The translations and lettering is amateurish at best, with no consistency and often unreadable dialogue and captions. It really put a damper in my enjoyment of their titles. Thankfully, Tohru Fukisawa's art is so good that it carries the stories and his storytelling does not suffer from the botched translation.

PopKulturowy Kociołek:
Spora część piątego tomu to dokończenie wątku napoczętego we wcześniejszej odsłonie.
Jednocześnie stara się on zaprezentować całą masę różnych złożonych problemów (szczególnie młodych ludzi). Jeden to pijący, palący, naginając zasady społeczne, wiecznie napalony niedojrzały facet. Drugi zaś nauczyciel umiejący w przeciwieństwie do innych dorosłych dostrzec i zrozumieć problemy nastolatków i starać się im za wszelką cenę pomóc

Uggg most of the volume were detected to that masochistic teacher, yet I loved how he made him get angry and the rest of the topics.

The best stories involve the vice principal and now the math teacher. This volume had both. It almost wangled a 5-star rating from me.

Tutti dovrebbero avere un professore come Onizuka

Ale że sensei nie poleciał na takie ładne podziękowanie, no no, dorasta nasz młodzieniaszek.

Tomoko is honestly kinda relatable. She has so much to say and offer but everyone shuts her down :(

Eikichi Onizuka (22), old virgin and ex-biker. crude, foul-mouthed, and very temperament.
He has a dream to be the Greatest High School Teacher in the World!!! but the thing behind that great dream is to score with the hot students ^_^"
Onizuka may think he’s the toughest guy on school, but when he meets his class full of bullies, blackmailers, and scheming sadists .... huwaaa. Honestly, I'm not really like this book. But there is available in Dorama, and the dorama is more interesting to watch.

My interest was waning in the last volume, but this one got GTO back on track. This book seems to have the right amount of silly humor/wackiness and serious moments. Ultimately, the characters around Onizuka are what make or break the story for me. If I don't connect or care about the characters he is trying to help or that are making his life harder then the plot becomes a lot less interesting. Speaking of plot, the twist in this volume is excellent as well and got me excited for volume six.

Read this series first back in adolescence, and as I go through the same books this present day I find how resonant some themes that the author touches upon remain. Surely at face value the series might come across as silly or over the top; but it is in fact deeply rooted in everyday themes, troubles, vulnerabilities, passions among other threads. A real depiction of human connection as a manga can get.

Meet Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old college karate champ and ex-biker. He's crude, foul-mouthed, and has a hair-trigger temper. Just the sort of guy you'd expect to see going back to school...to become a teacher
