Haven: The Silence

Rate this book
This novel is the third book in the Haven trilogy. It is 2054. EarthWatch forces are decimated, and city rebels begin the difficult process of establishing a new government. Meanwhile, Haven's small society hidden in the forests and mountains of southern Australia has experienced three years of peace. Jeanette Shaw, happily reunited with daughter Rosalie in Haven's prosperous town, is missing her husband and sets off to search. She's tasked with the extra burden of bringing back fourteen good men to correct a critical imbalance in the new community. Blue Duncan, ex-EarthWatch captain, carries the scars of past torture, but his focus is now the new government's success. But what will Jeanette and Blue discover as they meet in tragic circumstances and join forces in the divided city? And how will they fulfil the mission when the insidious enemy returns?

This is a very full-on book with some good underlying messages. I had a lot of trouble putting it down - It's the kind of book I finish in one go. (It even has zombies... kind of... briefly. You'll just have to read it. Borrow mine if you can't get it any other way.)

Thankyou Peter for writing Haven - I really like having interesting Christian fiction books to read that aren't just soppy romances. :)

(Although to be fair, this one DOES have romance in it because apparently, That's What People Want.)

Each Haven book deals with social themes, people, Christian faith ... it's apocalyptic fiction in the sense that the backdrop is the intentional destruction of life as we know it by Gaia-worshippers. This particular book is the third in the series. In the first, we met a few people making an escape, in the second, they were struggling to get established, and in this one, they go back into town; this third book has the end of civilisation as we know it (I'm deliberately being vague as I don't want to give spoilers).

Recommended for... ages 18-whatever. I wouldn't give it to my kid until they were effectively an adult as it's pretty explicit sometimes.

Warnings... lots of violence, some erotic scenes.

My favourite bits... rounding up farm animals, and some ingenuity that saves the day in the end (not going to give details, don't want to spoil it.)
