Oh dear . . . when Pip shows up with a new look that's just as much of a surprise to him as to Zoey and Sassafras, the trio knows something strange is happening in the forest. They retrace Pip's steps only to see another magical friend change right before their eyes! It's up to the team to figure out what is happening and how to change the magical animals back before things get any more serious . . .
3.5 STARS My kids loved this. My youngest asked for lots of rereads. Alas, it was not my favorite in the series. The science element wasn't as strong, and it was a rather annoying read-aloud as the Wishypoof hic-hic-hiccups almost all her dialogue and it really got tedious. The kids had fun with it, so it's still good for the target audience, and, as always, Zoe and her family (and adorable cat) are very sweet and caring, good role models. Many of the magical creatures from previous books make cameos here, so that might be fun for kids to see their favorites back again.
I especially enjoy the scientific method and experiments of this book series, they’re reading-wise a bit easy for my son but we still enjoy reading them together and predicting the resolutions.
Zoey and Sassafras Wishypoofs and Hiccups is a super cool book about Zoey and her magical friend, Sassafras. They have this thing called a "Wishypoof," which is like a magical creature that grants wishes. But sometimes, the Wishypoof gets the hiccups, and then all the magic goes crazy! Like, one time, Pip, who is a character in the book, gets curly green hair because of the hiccups. That's so funny!
So, Zoey, Pip, and Sassafras are friends, and they're kind of like heroes. They live in a forest with all these cool creatures like monsters and other animals. But sometimes, those creatures get hurt or have problems. And in this story, they all have to work together to fix the Wishypoof's hiccups. It's like a teamwork adventure!
The best part is, I can't really tell you exactly how they solve the problem, 'cause it's a surprise. But I can give you a hint: peanut butter! Yeah, they use peanut butter to help the Wishypoof stop having hiccups. They take a big scoop of peanut butter and eat it without chewing, and it works like magic. It's like a yummy solution!
Oh, and there's something really important I learned from this book. It's like a secret lesson. Even when things go wrong, if you're prepared and have peanut butter (and maybe a spoon too), everything can turn out okay. So, like, always be ready with peanut butter just in case something unexpected happens!
And at the end of the story, they mention socks too. I'm not sure why, but maybe socks and peanut butter together make life even better? Who knows! But after reading this book, I'm thinking that having peanut butter and socks around might be a good idea. It sounds like it would make adventures more fun!
So, yeah, "Zoey and Sassafras: Wishypoofs and Hiccups" is a really awesome book about friends, magic, teamwork, and peanut butter. If you like funny and magical stories, you should totally check it out!
This book is amazing, and I can't wait for you to see my full review on my YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/L-bd-GO1dkQ
I look forward to new adventures in the life of Zoey and her beloved orange cat, Sassafras. In this educational and fun series, the duo helps magical creatures who seek their assistance with whatever problem they are experiencing. So far, Zoey, and her mom, have been able to help through science.
I love books that focus on science for girls. My step-granddaughters, who are now 6 and 4, love Zoey also. The oldest seems especially attracted to science.
In this episode, Pip the talking frog shows up at the barn with a long, luxurious head of curly green hair. He has come to Zoey for help as he has no idea of how he got it. The trio retrace Pip’s steps into the forest.
Something is amiss in the forest. All their friends are having problems. Tiny, the large unicorn, has shrunk, the monster twins and stuck together, Pip begins to lay eggs and all the characters from the other books have shown up with a problem.
Fortunately, readers are introduced to a new character, a wishypoof floating in the air! When the trio first encounter her, she is crying. She believes she is the cause of all the changes in the forest, but more important she has the hiccups and doesn’t know how to get rid of them!
I thought that this would be the chance for Zoey to conduct several scientific experiments. In all honestly, she does have one that she works with on with her mom. But when it fails, all she does is ask the other creatures how they get rid of hiccups.
I was disappointed in this latest adventure. There was little science. I was heartbroken that there weren’t any at-home experiments for readers. We barely saw Zoey use her scientific methods and her Thinking Goggles. Therefore, “Zoey and Sassafras: Wishypoofs and Hiccups” receives 1 out of 5 stars in Julie’s world.
We LOVE this series. This one was highly anticipated (we had to re-read the entire series before we got into it) and it was really enjoyable, but I felt it was missing something. On the positive front, I loved another adventure with Pip, the Catterflies, Gorp, and of course, Tiny the enormous Unicorn. Love Tiny (and how we all make Tiny speak - nothing is funnier than watching your kids try to mimic a loud low voice). I loved the sensitivity of Wishy, the poor Wishypoof who can't control her magic because of her hiccups, and the shenanigans this gets into. For me this is probably my least favorite of the 9 books, just because it had a lot less science - both experiments and Zoey's journaling. Those are some of my favorite parts of this series, and this book was pretty lacking.
Wishypoofs and Hiccups is the newest addition to the Zoey and Sassafras series.
Something strange is happening in the magical forest: Pip shows up with luscious green hair, monster siblings are stuck together, even Tiny the unicorn shrinks into a tiny unicorn with zebra stripes, and nobody knows why. Until a new creature shows up at the barn door, a Wishypoof with hiccups.
Even though this one was the least scientific book in the series, it most definitely was the funniest. Just like Zoey on the front page, we have laughed and giggled throughout this joyful story.
It is a must-read for all Zoey and Sassafras lovers.
When magical creatures start showing up at Zoey's door with strange problems, like sudden hair growth or shrinking or hands sticking together, Zoey is very puzzled. But when a Wishypoof with the hiccups also rings the special doorbell, part of the mystery is cleared up. Can Zoey use science to help the Wishypoof figure out how to get rid of the hiccups?
A relatable but also imaginative scientific mystery for Zoey to tackle with the help of her mom, her cat Sassafrass, and other magical creatures in the neighborhood. I like that the book also teaches readers about the diaphragm and what hiccups are. Another solid little scientific adventure with fun fantasy creatures.
This one wasn't one of my favorites — I'm skeptical that you can deduce a hiccup cure by measuring the frequency of hiccups after each attempt — but it gets extra points for a being a reunion book, where multiple characters from past books make an appearance, and there's a group photo at the end. It's a good place to pause for now, but we're still hoping Citro will come out with more books in the series eventually!
I am not sure if I enjoyed this as much as I did with the dragon and marshmallow. I really did not like the narratives of how hiccups from a fairy mess up with the characteristics of other creatures. The working lung model did not really keep my child engaged all along.. neither did it sink with the story.. the narrative here was a little distorted with so many weird creatures that cannot even imagined or guess right on the head..
3.5 stars- Finished reading with my two youngest 5 & 8. Leeland usually reads them with me aloud but this time I read aloud to him. This fun book brings about another magical creature who has a problem and Zoey has to figure out how to stop the creatures hiccups before the hiccup magic changes everyone in the forests.
Zoey, Sassafras and Pip have to cure a bad case of the hiccups before this new magical creature changes everyone around it. Readers see experiment after experiment fail as they gain more knowledge. Finally, Zoey figures out the cure and Wishy fixes everyone and finds new friends. The story's pace is perfect for mid to upper elementary level readers.
So so cute! There are tons of magical creatures in this book and kittens! We are told how breathing works and what hiccups are. Then Zoey goes through to find many different "cures" for hiccups. Super fun with an emphasis on the scientific method!
Felt like this last one was just ok considering the science experiment was on something that we don't really have an answer to? Not sure how to put my finger on it. Even though there is the model of the diaphram in it.
While my kids loved this one like they do with this whole series it wasn’t my favorite. The hiccuping dialogue for one character also got old really fast. My kids loved hearing my make the hiccup sound though. The science element also wasn’t as strong with it which was disappointing to me.
What my kid had to say about this book: "Well, the one that the caterflies have is pretty cool - the fact that they eat a lemon to get rid of the hiccups!"
My thoughts: Another solid entry in one of our favorite series to read aloud. The kid especially liked that so many of the previous creatures made appearances in this one.
