Hello! My name is Bill Tippins and I am the author of The Ghost Warriors adventure book series. I am a history buff, with a particular interest in how people lived during the Stone Age, thousands of years before computer technology took over our lives. In The Ghost Warriors series, I have tried to bring this world to life through the adventures of thirteen-year-old Tioga, his sidekick Kopi, and their friend Hanna. In addition to entertaining you, I hope to share some foggy truths about Stone Age life that we have learned from archaeological digs, ancient texts, and the lifestyles of tribal people in remote settings. In this Middle Grade adventure, two boys (one 12, one 13) are charged by their Stone Age tribe with a mission no child should ever have to face. Not only do the boys accept the challenge, they embrace their task with a youthful vigor that ends up being the key to their success. Their own ignorance allows them to take risks that "more informed" adult warriors wouldn't dare consider. Their short-sighted but creative problem solving keeps the two moving forward in their journey, despite their constantly changing goals. Tioga and Kopi remain true to their own strengths, weaknesses, fears, and desires throughout the book; and readers will fall in love with both characters as they grow up on the pages of Ghost Warriors. If Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were thrown into a Stone Age setting, they'd become Tioga and Kopi and intrigue readers with their unique approach to a dangerous world that neither fully understands. While Tioga and Kopi draw the reader forward with a "you can do it" attitude, Tippins' deep knowledge of Stone Age life shines through without overpowering a truly wonderful adventure story. The prose is quick, concise, and crafted with a precision that will have you at the final battle before you know it. Fans of any Middle Grade outdoor adventure (regardless of age) will love Ghost Warriors and anxiously await the sequel.
I really enjoyed reading The Ghost Warriors, and the author really nailed that voice for young readers while also still managing to appeal to older readers. Tioga and Kopi are characters who are very easy to root for from the beginning of the story, and I love the differing personalities that allowed them to work so well off each other. Great worldbuilding without overshadowing the plot or characters. The twists were great while also remaining believable, and I loved how the author showed the different strengths and weaknesses of both boys. Would recommend to both older and younger readers.
An enjoyable children's story of two boys in a prehistoric setting who must set out on an adventure to save their friend. Confronted with dangers, and with one of them carrying a disability, they must use resourcefulness and intelligence to overcome.
It's not too deep. The disability was a nice touch, and the intended readership will probably not notice that the stone age culture lacks a bit for historical depth. It is, in any case, well imagined. It is quite sequential, but again, that should be fine for the readership.
The compelling characters in this action-packed story kept me thinking, and appreciating their bravery. The danger that they face is real! I can't wait for the sequel to read more if this amazing coming-of-age saga.
I found this book enjoyable. It is unique, the characters are well built and interesting, and the story keeps the pages turning. The writing was average in places, but good enough to remain compelling. This book would be great for children and young adults.
