Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
This volume rehashes old trauma for Hibana and Arthur. What happened to Hibana's childhood friends is horrific. As for Arthur, his parents are terrible people. It's surprising how Ohkubo wrote Arthur's coping mechanisms for his parents' negligence.
Company 8 has rescued Captain Obi with the help of Company 7 but even that isn't much to celebrate as some of the darker secrets regarding Spontaneous Human Combustion start getting answers.
Then another secret comes to light, literally, and I'm reeling because...WHAT?! I mean... technically it worked out, but...SERIOUSLY, WTF???
An another volume that I've read very fast and enjoyed. Fire Force is great and I really liked the previous arcs as well. The new arc is also very interesting because things get really complicated for Company 8 as well as others. Our beloved self-proclaimed King Arthur is in the foreground in this volume. We learn more about his past and also meet his mysterious parents as well. I'm not going to spoil it obviously but his parents were really interesting in my opinion. We should be getting a new volume in couple weeks, I hope, and it will be much better because of some complications regarding Shinra. (I'll leave it at that)
I think that's the perfect definition for this series, it's fun. Things seems to be getting even worst for our heros but i like were this is going, things are gonna get very serious very soon (i think xD) and i can't wait. The story so far is really good but a little convoluted in my opinion, too many plot points but it's not that bad.
The only thing i didn't like (that much) of this volume was the introduccion of a couple of characters, it seem way out of the blue and kinda force just for the sake of progressing the story, witch is not a bad thing but i would preffer a little more of explosition. That being said, i liked them.
At the end of Volume 22 things were looking up massively. The story had completely drawn me back in and I was so excited for this volume. At the end of the last book, we were introduced to a mysterious character named Moonlite Mask, who distracts the Evangelists in their mission to take out a battered Company 8. We soon find out this mysterious new figure is Beni who rescues Company 8 and takes them back to Asakusa for medical attention and to regroup. While the death of Captain Burns has led to Company 8 being even further ostracised by the Empire, other company captains begin to declare their belief in Company 8. While they regroup, Hibana returns to the grounds of the Convent she and Iris grew up in, to get to the end of the mystery of the Doppelgangers. She and the new leaders of Company 1 find a hidden underground library where Hibana finds out not everything from her past is as it seemed and she is confronted by a figure from her past.
This volume fell flat for me because it felt like after a whole bunch of volumes with very little filler, the filler came back. Val, Yu, Lisa and Arthur set out on a quest to re-encourage Arthur after his loss against the Dragon. They go on a hunt for a legendary metal (a quest fully fabricated by Val) but when Arthur misreads a clue and takes them into the Nether once more, they face something completely unexpected: Arthur's estranged family.
I hope this all adds up to something in the coming volumes, I'm not sure I can handle much more filler. The whole Arthur and his family storyline is completely unhinged.
This volume goes pretty dark as we learn the truth about Captain Hibana's and Lisa's past about why their covenant burned to the ground. And the truth is pretty dark in a very similar fashion to what Rekka's was doing before he died. And then we get a weird story with Arthur and Vulcan trying to repair Arthur's sword. As it starts up with Vulcan basically creating a LARP session with them trying to find a "legendary" metal to remake the sword. But Arthur screws it up and it gets out of hand as they meet Arthur's parents. It is just weird. The story with Hibana was really good as it further the story with new details and provided new world building with what Adolla is and other key information to help explain human combustion as well as further develop Hibana and Lisa's characters. The Arthur story is just weird.
Even if the first part of the volume is very serious with a continuous lore drop... The second part is simply amazing. Arthur's search for a new sword is basically what happens when u convince your schizophrenic friend to drop his meds and feed him into his own allucinations. Oh, and it runs in the family too simply amazing
so smart, so dark, this is the storytelling of a lifetime. it’s giving fullmetal alchemist & i mean that in the best way. found family, high stakes, a stupid side quest on the end that didn’t even piss me off like i’m sooo in
