It was really a good book, i loved to see the whole team and their loved ones taking an active part in this investigation it was a wonderful bonus after having following the whole series but even if you start with this one you won't feel like you are missing any element as the investigation is totally independant so it's a stand alone if you wish but read in order allow teh reader to have a better understanding of the team complexity ( because they sure lived what no other teams had^^)
Remi is an understanding chief, she protect her team and now we can see why.....we also discover that she has many weaknesses that she tries to hide and only Dylan Cove who knew her before she was a marshall has an idea of what she is behind her shield. I loved to learn her past and see how Dylan's was a mirror of it and none of them realized it...they knew the case in their past had affected them but not how much.... Dylan is persistent for sure......in his job it can be an asset .....or turn against him....but in love that can be his only opportunity to get Remi wiating as long as necessary.... He is not my favourite male on the team but it grew on me
the investigation is interesting...there are a lot of violence described and alluded, several murders...several twists but the angst and tension are well balanced with the romance and psychological parts
I have been a fan of Nichole's since her Blackhawk Security series and this is becoming my favorite. Your pulled in from the beginning and eagerly turning the pages. With unexpected twist that pulls you even more and has you forgoing sleep to finish it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
While this is a part of a series and some of the prior characters make appearances, you don’t have to read them to enjoy this story. I would recommend that you read the prior stories though as they are really great.
Holy Batman! The author really put the mystery and intrigue into her stories. I just kept guessing and guessing (most of the time, I was wrong!) The author really did a great job in plotting out this storyline, the action was fast and the story flowed nicely. I really could see the scenes being played out.
This book is written in a multiple POV format. I love that as it gives me that glimpse into the characters’ thoughts. I can more fully understand the characters and their actions during a scene that way.
There is some kissing scenes but then a fade to later. If you love murder mysteries, suspense and intrigue with your romance, you definitely need to read this one (plus really all of the series!)
Throughout the Marshal Law series, there have been little hints, small glimpses at Remi and Dylan that told the reader that these two knew each other differently than the rest of the team – and in The Suspect, we’ll finally discover what that connection is, and it is heart-wrenching and intense. Theirs is a love story derailed by circumstances far beyond their control, of a vile villain who will continue to disrupt their lives while continuing on their murder spree. The past is about to catch up with Remi and Dylan and survival to love again is their only acceptable option.
I’ve enjoyed the slow, book-by-book build-up to this couple’s story. Their personal relationship was always barely there but noted, I had always suspected there was more to Remi and Dylan than we were being told and that anticipation to understand what they meant to each other built for me through all the other stories. Remi has always been shown as fair but by the book boss of the other members of her team. And this time around we will encounter all those familiar faces of her team once again as the tensions build to not only prove Dylan and Remi innocent but to finally bring a killer to justice.
I find that I don’t want to say much about the plot, what happens in The Suspect because I feel this story is the accumulation of events leading up to this couple’s story. It puts all the secondary players in place and leads to a seat gripping, roller coaster of a ride to the conclusion of the Marshal Law series. Remi and Dylan made mistakes in their former case and in this one, yet those mistakes were believable, were understandable, and made for a more realistic situation making them far more human than civilians often think of those who serve and protect the rest of us.
I have to love a character who goes far above and beyond in protecting loved ones, and Dylan did exactly that. Oh, he misstepped along the way and paid for that but his devotion to Remi is obvious. Watching this couple fight the enemy as well as themselves in so many ways made The Suspect an amazing wrap-up for the Marshal Law series. I was on edge throughout – that’s when I know a story has me completely engaged when finding out what happens next becomes more important than anything going on in “real life”. That intensity can be yours, just pick up the series and indulge yourself.
The USM'S at it again and this time it is to try and put behind bars and put loved ones that had lost closer. When she came to USMS Remington Barton did what she had to do to become Chief Deputy. She knew it would be hard they wouldn't the she could do it. But she provide them all wrong. Chief Remington Barton Chief Deputy Marshal came from being a small town Sheriff in Delaware Deputy Marshal Jonah Watson former FBI former bomb tech. from the Oregon Office Deputy Finnick Reed a specialized in hunting down serial killers also from the Oregon Office Deputy Beckett Foster assigned out of Oregon office. Deputy Dylan Cove worked with Remi in Delaware as a private investigator and came to Oregon to find and protect Chief Barton. Chief Barton was called to see a certain crime scene as to the fact that it had to do with her case in Delaware. Deputy Cove was with her thru the whole thing except when was doing other things he didn't want her to know about. She went to the Gresham P.D. where she was told to go to the back of the cabin to one of the rooms and found a dead body. In another room there was all kinds of pictures. They took her back to the Gresham P.D. and was took there safe house but for that she called all the Marshal's in and asked for a favor explained what happened and what was going on and she need there help with out being found out off the record so to speak and that include Deputy Cove as well. They did what they ask and reported back to her. This was one of the books I like so much because I got to see Remi protect and in action not just in the background. It was intrigue me so much that I wish Nichole would write more of the series. Nichole you did fantastic job with Remi story. I recommend this book because I love to read the intrigue series that Nichole writes.
Great read! Loved the close-knit characters, the suspense, the storyline, and was satisfied with the sweet HEA. This book can be read as a standalone but I think it benefits the story as a whole to read all four books in the series. (The Fugitive, The Witness, The Prosecutor, The Suspect)
Remi had a promising career as a small-town sheriff in Delaware and a previous relationship with Dylan Cove, who at the time was a private investigator, but her failure to capture a serial murderer ended both. She’s a woman with many secrets hidden in her past and she did what she had to do in order to get where she is. Now a US Marshal, she is also a prime suspect in a current homicide with strong similarities to her career-ending case of the New Castle Killer. Even more of a shocker, her ex is now a Deputy Marshal and on the case. Dylan also has some secrets of his own, from the past and present and they end up colliding with Remi’s leading to an unfortunate outcome. Regardless of their current situation though, Dylan is still determined to help find the killer and keep Remi safe. There are plenty of twists and turns along with high tension, buried feelings, danger, action, and more present in this exciting final book in the Marshal Law series.
The build up towards catching this killer will have you enthralled! With book four in her always exciting Marshal Law series Nichole Severn brings us the story of Remington and the secrets from her past in THE SUSPECT. The tension is high, the unexpected twists are exciting and the romance unraveling behind the scenes is sweetly satisfying.
Remi is an attention grabbing character. So far in the series we've known her to be a fairly by the book boss who cares for her subordinates and is willing to back them up no matter the situation. Opening up the lock to her sealed past and delving into what made her the person she is was riveting.
Dylan is loyal and kind and even though Remi walked away from him in the past, he's still determined to keep her safe when a killer comes calling.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who loves a suspenseful story with close knit characters and a satisfying HEA.
The Suspect A Harlequin Intrigue Marshall Law #4 Nichole Severn “Some people believe evil could be predicted. It couldn’t.” When a suspected serial killer turns up murdered on their doorstep the USMS unit are being haunted by their past investigation downfall. The investigators are being hunted down. Remi and Dylan are firmly in the serial killers sights. Remi has put Dylan in the off limits part of her life, she is now his boss, she can’t go back no matter how tempting he might be. Dylan doesn’t care, he wants Remi. He wants Remi alive and well and all his. This had me up way past my bedtime reading just one more chapter. A compelling hard to put down read. Loved this instalment in the Marshall Law series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel with hea, but you want to read them all! I received an arc of this book. 5 suspense stars.
The last book in the Marshall Law series. I have to say I’m sorry to see it come to an end. When Chief Deputy US Marshall Remi Barton and Deputy US Marshall who was a former PI come onto the scene the images are the same they saw in Delaware. The same MO of the New Castle Killer. A nightmare they both lived. Maybe both live a little today. The only thing is something that the police officers thing point to Remi. Dylan is pretty upset that they could even think that. They’re in agreement they need to find the missing pieces to the case they never solved together, and discuss with the team. What comes next is shocking. I loved the ending as well as all the twists and turns in this book.
Highly recommend this book. As always. Ms. Severn writes wonderful characters in each book. Gives us suspense, gives us romance, and so much more.
4 stars for this the final installment of this excellent series. This is Remi's and Dylan's story. They've been in the background for most of the rest of the books...Remi as the boss or Deputy Chief, and Dylan as the new guy to the team. We've known they have a past, but now we learn about it...their relationship and the events that caused Remi to leave her job as sheriff and join the US Marshals service. As with the other books there is plenty of high adrenaline action to keep the reader riveted to the page....all leading up to a satisfactory conclusion to both the book and the series. My thanks to the author for an advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
Another thrill for the Marshalls service. When Remi couldn’t put a serial killer away in Delaware she was forced to start over in Oregon. Dylan made a career choice and followed her. The two of them come under fire for their previous investigation of the killer and the current murderer. Even though their lives are at stake stopping an investigation is not going to happen. It’s easy to get pulled into these characters because we’ve met them in the previous books and cannot help but notice the tension between them. Each book can be read alone or in order, they are not connected by the story. I received an early copy and have written my review voluntarily.
“Remi” is no longer the sheriff in a small Delaware town. She has moved clear across the country and is a chief deputy marshal. It seems a killer has followed her. With the help of Dylan, a former PI, she is in a race against time to prevent more killings...especially hers. A nonstop journey through clues that lead to many dead ends and several suspenseful surprises. Another great read in the A Marshal Law series. Plan plenty of time to read it because you won’t be able to put it down.
What appears to be and what actually is happens to be a large part of this story. An intrigue that will keep you following the clues. Remington had a ruined career when she did not catch a serial killer. Now they have the absurdity to suspect her when she is a US Marshall but MO matches a serial killer. Dylan whom is a Deputy Marshall has not stopped hunting that one eludes but now has to also prove they are looking in wrong direction. If not careful though they both could become targets which puts us in a anxious state as we hurriedly turn the pages.
The Suspect is another great addition to the Marshal law series! It’s fast paced, has a lot of twists and turns and great second chance romance and although second chance romance is not my favorite trope it’s very well done in this book. It’s a very entertaining book with a good plot and great characters. You can read it as a standalone but I recommend to read the series because of the reappearing characters and just because the series is very good! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
The Suspect : A Marshal Law Novel is the 4th and last book in the series, by Nichole Severn. I loved the book. I'm sad this is the end of the series. I love Remington and Dylan together. This book has so many twists and turns you won't be able to put it down. Nichole Severn's writing will keep you on the edge waiting for the next twist. I love it. I would recommend this book and the whole Marshal Law series. I give this 5 stars.
Intelligent, gritty and full of suspense, The Suspect is a thrilling story. Cove and Remi are the targets of a serial killer whose primary objective is revenge. In the midst of thier investigation, they have to navigate thier feelings for each other and sort through the baggage they carry personally and professionally. This is a crazy good story and the best of the series. If your looking for a book that features a strong bad ass woman, this is definitely one your going to want to read.
I enjoyed the adrenaline rush I got when I read this book. Remi and Dylan work so well together, their experience and knowledge kept them alive through some pretty distressing situations. Their personal relationship may have gotten in their way a few times but I think it allowed them to understand what the other would do in a situation. This series was so exciting to read.
This book gave me goosebumps. Remi and Dylan are great characters, this book is so very good, and has a fabulous storyline. This is the last book in this series and it is everything I have come to expect from Nichole Severn!
The last book in the series, The Suspect by Nichole Severn was another very good read. I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous books but still I would recommend it to others. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Remi Barton is my favorite kind of prickly heroine. She can take care of herself and finds her HEA only when she finds someone who makes her a better version of herself. Perfect for fans of Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin.
I did not like this one as much as the others in the series. The lead character was way to bossy and in a few instances unfair or at least I thought so. Otherwise the story was ok...
I really enjoy this series. I like how the characters are in all the books and learn about them. This book was fast paced and kept me invested. I wanted to finish so I could find out what happened.
This fourth book in the series needs to be read as the fourth book - Severn relied on readers' having followed the series which made it less fun when you had not done so.
Book 4 and we now get Remi and Cove's story and why she lost her job as sheriff and is now a US Marshal. Cove and Remi are still trying to find the serial killer but now the serial killer has been killed by another serial killer but everything leads to Remi. Can they find the serial killer before he kills Remi and Cove like the rest of the team she had before. Can Remi overcome the past to have a future? This book is full of action, suspense, danger and lies and you won't want to put it down till you find out who is behind everything and if Remi and Cove can survive everything thrown in their path. Great addition.
