Undercover on a cruise ship with her K-9 dog, Alaska State Trooper Maya Rodriguez uses herself as bait to catch a murderer. And security officer David Garrison is the only person she can trust with the truth. But with a possible serial killer dead-set on taking out anyone who stands in the way, will Maya and David make it off the ship alive?

Disappointed in this third book in the series. First of all, there were mistakes using women, instead of the singular woman twice and in one instance there was a double word, is is, or it it...can't remember which, so the proof reading was shoddy. The plot was not that of a professional with her "thinking" she had heard various noises, but must have been mistaken all the while with a killer after her and who thinks about loving a guy when a cold blooded killer is after her, which happened in this book quite often? The ending was left hanging instead of a follow up on what happened to the killer. Most books have an epilogue in the last chapter which details what happened, but not in this book. Also the first book ended with a mystery as well as the second book and this third book barely touched on any of the mysteries in the first two books. Plus in the first book, the best man's watch was found at the base of the cliff and in this third book, it said the watch belonged to the groom. Somebody really dropped the ball on this story in the series!!
4 stelle e mezza Bella storia, ma perché la protagonista, che è una poliziotta, finisce sempre a un passo dalla morte senza riuscire a difendersi? Mi sembra un po' irrealistico...
This is the 3rd book I read by Sharon Dunn. I liked the Christian theme in this story & I liked Sarge 🐕. I'm sorry the storyline didn't grab my interest.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Undercover Mission. This is book three in the continuity series Alaska K-9 Unit. Sharon is one of my favorite authors so this book was a great surprise. I really enjoyed this book; it's well written, action-packed, and full of drama.
Alaska State Trooper Maya Rodriguez and her K-9 partner Sarge are undercover on a cruise ship. They are investigating a possible serial killer. Maya looks just like the victims so she can use herself as bait. As she looks over the place of the first murder she is attacked. The man wears a ski mask but she can see his vivid green eyes. A security officer comes to her rescue. Can she work with him to find the killer?
Security Chief David Garrison is a former military MP and finds it difficult to be unarmed but for a Tazer. An IED ended his military career so now his home is on board this ship and with his staff. He comes to the rescue of a beautiful woman with a service dog. It soon becomes apparent that she isn't a normal traveler but some form of law enforcement. They decide to work together to find the killer. Can he keep them both alive without losing his heart?
A terrifying journey across the Alaskan waters. Two broken souls find each other while trying to survive a vicious killer. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of chaos. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
Wow. Where to begin? This one was ... I can't believe it passed muster and was published at all. There is so much wrong with it.
Myriads of typos- not only typos, but entire words used that were just wrong.
The main character is supposed to be a state trooper, her dog a K-9 officer- and yet in the first chapter alone, she manages to not only get herself isolated by an attacker, incapacitated, and separated from her dog THREE different times, but also neither seem to have any ability or training to combat/defend themselves or escape. It's a Malinois, correct? Highly trained police animal. Not just trained to detect weapons, but should also be trained to disable an attacker, and protect/defend his handler. And yet, they continue to bumble through the entire book, with repeat instance of same. Then at the end, suddenly it's all about "Well, I am a police officer, I do have SOME training" and suddenly they both have all the skills.
I can't even.
Then, apparently, it's also Christian fiction. Nothing against that. Teenage me might even have enjoyed/appreciated this series. Dog professional adult me.... she's disappointed. Margaret Mizushima, for example, writes much better.
The only reason it took me days to finish is because I started it the day before we moved out of our house, read half of it in an hour, then didn't have time to pick it up again until yesterday.
"Undercover Mission" is a romantic suspense. There are some ongoing cases throughout the series, and the reader gets updates on how those cases are progressing in each book. However, this book can be read as a standalone.
Maya's supposed to be undercover but acted so much like a cop that everyone guessed her "secret." When she got permission to tell only David that she's a K-9 cop, she felt free to tell others, too. So she didn't seem very competent. I also felt like the author didn't know much about K-9s. Other books in the series state that her dog "screens for weapons and explosives." So her dog's skill set didn't even match the case. And Maya stated that her dog couldn't track a suspect (though the dog was used to track down a lost child) but could have tracked him if he carried a knife. Um. No.
Finally, Maya had been repeatedly attacked by the killer, but she barely managed to hold him off until someone would scare him off. The dog was of little help. I admire that Maya was willing to risk her life to trap the killer, but she insisted she had to be completely vulnerable--no dog, no backup close by, not even a hidden weapon of her own. And that just seemed stupidly foolish.
Maya and David generally got along well, but they had little in common and few shared interests. David said he'd protect Maya but then had to keep leaving her alone (to be attacked). I can see them being friends but the romantic attraction seemed forced. There was no sex or bad language.
If you enjoy Love Inspired Suspense's K-9 series, you'll enjoy this one.
Alaska State Trooper Maya Rodriguez goes undercover on a cruise ship where one slender, pretty brunette is murdered and another escapes the same fate. By the way, did I mention Maya also is slender, pretty brunette? Or did you already guess? Can she, with the help of her K-9 partner Sarge (also undercover, as a service dog) and the handsome ship Security Officer David Garrison (this is a romantic suspense, after all) stop the killer before he stops her?
If, like me, you like this type of story, you'll enjoy this. This is the third part of an eight part series. If you are familiar with these multi-author series, you'll know that this is a stand-alone story with references to other plotlines that are sprinkled through the series. If you're not, you can enjoy this story without reading the others.
I especially liked the relationship with Maya and David, especially her early concern if she should reveal her assignment to the security officer, since he clearly realizes something isn't being told to him.
Undercover Mission is Book 3 of 8 in the Alaska K-9 Unit series, each written by a different author of Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense fame. This episode focuses on Maya (Alaska K-9 Trooper) and David (Alaska Dream Cruises Cruise ship Security) who are out to find the man who killed one woman and severely injured another, with the fear of other women being stalked and murdered. Maya and her K-9 partner, a smaller, but equally intimidating-looking Belgian Malinois, are undercover as a passenger and her therapy dog that was a former K-9 dog. Maya is attacked, but her fog, Sarge, saves her life. When she asks David questions in a certain way, he figures out she is a cop; Maya realizes she can trust David, gets permission from her boss, Lorenz a Gallo, and tells David who she is and why she is onboard the ship. He saves her life at least 5 or 6 times, Sarge gets injured, but not seriously, and then turns up missing twice. David, as well as another security officer get bonked over the head. Will this killer be found? Or will more innocent women with long brown hair be injured or murdered?
Undercover Mission Book 3: Alaska K-9 Unit is by Sharon Dunn. Maya Rodrigues, Alaska State Trooper and K-9 Handler, was getting her chance to go undercover on a case with her dog, Sarge and she was thrilled and anxious at the same time. A cruise line in Alaska had been having a problem with a serial stalker and possible killer on board. He had killed one woman and hurt a couple of others. Since she had similar looks to the women, she got to go undercover. The first order of business was to check out the head of security, David Garrison. His report seemed to be missing something and she hoped he wasn’t covering for the killer. When he saves her and Sarge from the killer, she realizes he is innocent and wants to find the killer too. If they join forces, can they find the killer faster or will they just get distracted by each other? Can David protect Maya from the trouble that is coming?
There is so much going on in this story. Maya and her K-9 partner Sarge are sent undercover to find a murderer and assailant in a Alaska cruise. The head of security on the cruise, David, is not told about this. Maya gets attacked pretty soon after she joins the cruise and the action keeps going from there. This is one wily criminal who is staying one step ahead of them all the way. Can Maya and David figure out who is attacking the women and capture him before he takes Maya out of the scenes permanently? Read on to find out.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with a character and action oriented storyline that has no steam at all. The characters are vibrant and engaging. You do want to read these stories in order so that you will get the most out of them. Enjoy these exciting Christian romantic suspense stories.
Writing a series is challenging but how about writing a series with all different authors? These authors do an amazing job of keeping the flow of the story throughout each book.
This book is set on a cruise ship with Alaska State Trooper Maya Rodriguez and her K-9 Sarge. Her job is to catch a murderer who is hiding in plain sight somewhere on the ship. Security Officer, David Garrison, is the only one she can trust, but she is having a hard time not falling for the handsome officer.
This is a great suspense tale set on a cruise ship, where there is no escape from a deadly serial killer. Loaded with suspense! Highly recommend!
The mystery of why someone is targeting young women of a certain build and hair color. Maya fits this description. Will she be next? Can David keep her safe? And will these two find a way to make a relationship work? It is sweet to see how each one relies on God in their lives. And German Shepherds are one of my favorites.
This is the third book in the Alaska K-9 Unit series. It can be read as a stand alone. But it is way more fun to know what's going on with all the other characters, too. I need to revisit this series to catch up.
Note: there is some attraction and a few kisses but it's not overly described.
really more like 3.5 for a couple of reasons. First - poor editing in the Kindle Edition. Missing words, incorrect words in a couple of places. Harlequin is not someone self publishing from their kitchen table, these should have been caught. Second, Maya kept being bested by the attacker, then she had the nerve to continually remind her love interest that she was a trained police officer.
The story being set on a ship is at least partly to blame for the second issue. The limited number of characters and settings meant that an amateur criminal with questionable motives led trained law enforcement on a merry chase in order to make this long enough to be a book.
Undercover Mission is the third book in the Alaska K-9 Unit series. The books are written by different authors and Sharon Dunn has written this particular book n the series. The story follows Maya and her K-9 partner, Sarge as they work with a security officer to track a murderer on a cruise ship. The plot moves fast with lots of action scenes and I wondered if Maya would make it back to her home team alive. Any one of hundreds of people, crew staff and tourists alike, could be the killer. And there is high tension with the time constraint of the approaching end of the cruise docking where the killer could permanently escape. Readers who enjoy the artful weaving of suspense with romance will not want to miss Undercover Mission. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and more books in this series. I won a copy of the book in a contest and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
Unfortunately I was disappointed by the author’s lack of knowledge of K-9 officers and their handlers. The K-9 would have alerted to the presence of someone coming up from behind the handler. It also would not have willingly left its handler even though someone grabbed its leash. Instead, it would have gone after that person and gotten away. That the police handler decided she would be able to take care of the bad guy at the end, when she already proved she couldn’t several times, wasn’t very believable.

Suspense and Romance on an Alaskan Cruise This book is the third installment in the Alaska K-9 series. Since the stories overlap a bit and share characters, it is best to read them in order. This story has a female K-9 officer and her Belgian Malinois helping to find a killer aboard a cruise ship sailing on the Alaskan coast. She is working with the cruise ship's security chief and romance ensues. The plot is tight and suspenseful. I even caught myself holding my breath a few times. I highly recommend this author and this series.
Clean, Christian, Romance with mystery, action, lots of k-9 love and suspense. Throw in some human romantic chemistry and you have the makings of a great story. Maya and her K9 are sent on board a cruise ship to investigate a murder and a few attacks on women who Maya resembles in features. The murderer set his sites on Maya and the plan gets moving. Can they get the bad guy before the ship gets to port? With the help of the chief security officer, there is hope for resolution. They could also wrap up Maya's hope she will find love. Hint. Hint.
I have enjoyed the first two books in this series, but this one missed the mark. The female MC is supposed to be a state trooper, but she’s a bumbling damsel in distress. She got attacked constantly and always had to be saved. There is no way that girl made in through the police academy. Even her K-9 was incompetent. He constantly got separated from his owner, never chased the suspect, and never sensed him before she was attacked (which happened about 100 times). It really felt like she was just on the ship to find a husband.
Maya is suppose to be a state trooper. She brings that and the fact that she knows self defense several times throughout the book. Yet every time she is attacked by the bad guy she is over powered and left looking like she has no training at all. Her K-9 partner is pretty much shown as being weak in his training as well. Definitely not one of the better books I’ve read.
No. 3 of this series was as exciting as #1 and #2. Quick reads with lots of action and romance. Still cliff hangers. Cases solved but cliff hangers still in the background...makes me want to SCREAM; but, also makes me want to keep reading to see what happened, who done it? Have to keep going have to find out where the missing bride to be is, why is she hiding out, who is tampering with the reindeer and where is the missing family...UGH...
Another great example of superb storytelling. This third installment in the Alaska K-9 Unit was filled with action and inspiring romance between the characters. I love how the author gives us glimpses of the other members of the K-9 team and their K-9 partners. Can't wait for the next installment.
I gave it the same name because it is a good name. So far I have enjoyed reading all the books.. I will be starting on the fourth book after this one. I am a dog loving and I have.malnanois. Star is me black with a star in her face. I really love reading your books. Please keep writing and I will keep reading. Thank you.
Great story. This book has mystery, suspense, danger and love
David is head of security on a cruise ship where there has been a murder recently. Maya is on an undercover mission to investigate with her partner Sarge. After she decided to tell David the real reason she is on-board, they work together to solve the murder.
A few questionable details about the cruise ship, but overall a good suspense novel with a little romance thrown in. Although some Christian references, not over the top. It kept me invested enough to finish in one day. I do think you need to read these in order since this one references things that happened in the first two books.
