Love is in the salty, sea air of Sarasota, Florida.
But so is murder.
The Concordia sisters, owners of the One Woman's Junk consignment shop are up to their eyeballs in trouble as they try to help their friends, solve a murder and plan a wedding. All while managing not to kill each other, offend any of their wacky clientele, or wreck their own love lives.
The sisters are back with another mystery to solve. Along with their own problems, they band together to help Rena. Jb Lynn has another fun, must read series. Lots of mystery, laughs, and romance will keep you coming back for more. I know I want more!
Picking up a short time after the conclusion of the previous book, Something Old, Something New opens with young Rena wanted for questioning by the police. Since the Concordia sisters are very protective of her, they find themselves involved in Rena’s situation right away. Additionally, Bea has a vision of a woman burning in a house fire, and Piper’s fiancee surprises everyone by coming home early.
Over the course of the first three books, I’ve come to enjoy the Concordia sisters, who reunited after their godmother Letty died. I liked watching them get to know themselves and each other, maturing as they evaluate their places in the world. While I appreciated their rough edges in the past, I found myself annoyed with their family dynamics this time around. They can be quick to judge one another, and often make poor assumptions that cause hurt feelings. And they hold grudges. I really did not like Amanda this time around. After three books, I would hope their relationship would have fewer bumps.
There is also a LOT going on in Something Old, Something New. Between working on cases and helping their friends, the story stretches in several directions. Some of the threads come together, but some are still loose ends without closure. I would have preferred a more focused storyline.
My biggest complaint is the convenient way powers seem to manifest to help the sisters. Why are some shared and others not? And what’s with a couple of inanimate objects interacting with the sisters and one another? It’s a bit creepy. Why some objects and not others? How is it Bea now sees the future? Additionally, something happens to Tom’s newly returned brother that continued to push the story beyond what I’m willing to accept. But the final straw was the magic they were able to use at the end… Again, it all feels haphazard yet convenient.
Narration: The story is shared via all three sister’s third-person POVs. The narrator remains the same for all POV’s: calm, feminine, and slightly on the deeper side. Ms. Marlo alters all dialogue appropriately for gender and age, even giving the Scottish Sea Monster a slight brogue. Each sister has a unique voice, as do the supporting characters and voices of the inanimate objects. Overall, Ms. Marlo makes the story easy to listen to.
In the end, I felt Something Old, Something New was okay. While I enjoy the overall story, I was annoyed by sisters’ family dynamics. I also didn’t like how their psychic powers seem to manifest without rhyme or reason.
My Ratings: Story: C+ Narration: B+

Another great story about the Concordia Sisters and their consignment shop. What a crazy bunch of characters and all living in the same shopping mall. I love the way J.B. Lynn's mind works. Even her own dog climbs trees. The animals understand humans and some humans understand the animals. The ghosts communicate and help solve murders. It is just a fun series. This one starts out with one of the sisters announcing she is moving out and this throws the other two into a tizzy. They all want to be together but the space is just too small. Anyway, the story unfolds and they all work together with their magical powers to solve the missing ring and keep the young teenager safe. You'll enjoy the trip. I must say though that this book had lots of typos which is very unusual. Maybe it has been reissued with corrections.
Another winner! I love this series and how the sisters are learning to work together. This novel focuses on Rena, a teenager they're all investing in helping - they're picking up where their deceased godmother left off when she died.
All three sisters are involved in this story - they're searching for the missing Rena, and dealing with her being wanted by the police for theft. As they try to figure things out, some new characters are added to the mix. They're entertaining and I can't wait to see how the author involves them in future books.
If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. It's got a great mystery that is entertaining and has a bit of humor. Put this one at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
The three sister must learn to work together! But it seems like they are too independent and hiding things from each other. I loved the way they were literally forced to change their ways and have spectacular results. So many exciting issues!
The characters in the book, down to seemingly unimportant ones, are well developed and described. Minor characters like Peabody come to life as well as the main characters. Interwoven plots add to the superb storytelling. It's hard to put the book down!
Appropriate for all with something for everyone! Loved it.
The sisters continue to run their godmothers consignment store but Winnie hates it, mostly dealing with the public and has plans to leave. Also we learn Rena has an autistic brother still in foster care and that their foster mother is horrible. Especially after her 30 you son moves in. He is what prompted Rena to move out because he was so creepy, and apparently a criminal to boot. When a wedding dress comes into the consignment store Bea sees its previous wearer dying in a fire and they determine to warn her. An interesting story with a happy ending but not really a good conclusion to series. I guess the door is open to further books.
Great series another hit! The Concordia sisters had drifted apart and were brought back together by their aunt’s death. We get to go on their emotional journey as they learn they are stronger together. They have inherited her consignment store along with a colorful cast of characters that have now become their family. In this book we see them learn how important they are too each other as they race to save Rena one of their new friends and her brother. It will take them learning to trust each other and their new friends to save one of their own.
Another great one. This was cute and I like how the sisters powers were stronger when they worked together. I also liked how each of the 3 sisters found love. So sweet. The ending was good and it also left it to where a fifth book can be written if Jen decides to. This series was sweet and I like how the people in the strip mall were all family through love, rather than just blood. (Although there were blood relatives, too). It ended well for all of the good people and that’s just what I like!
The Concordia Sisters have a lot going on in this book. A wedding dress starts a whole chain of events that involve most all of the characters we have come to love. Their powers together keep growing and helping people. I sincerely hope this book isn't the last in this series. If it is then I can imagine all kinds of scenarios for all the characters. This has been a wonderful series but Jen I would really love more.
I really liked this book. It seemed to be well structured with a thought out storyline. In other books, a lot happens, but it is not until the tail end of the books that it all makes sense. In this book, lots of loose ends from the first 3 books are tied up. The book had a fabulous ending. But I hope there are more books in the series. The sisters' love lives still need some wrapping up.
Something Old, Something New (Psychic Consignment Mystery Book 4)
JB Lynn never disappoints her readers. Book 4 is excellent with more twists and turns than Book 3. The mystery is like several Mysteries solved while solving the main mystery. I don't want to give anything away to the reader to spoil the books ending. If you don't read this mystery, you have missed the best story in this series. Happy reading.
In this 4th book of the series, the Concordia sisters are acting as one which increases their psychic powers. Romance is heating up, ghosts are helping out, and mysteries are being solved. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the books and hope that there will be another one soon.
