In the colorful undersea world of Mermicorn Island, magic is all around, if you just know where to look. And no one is looking harder than Lucky the Mermicorn! He is eager to find his 'sparkle,' that special thing, or bit of magic that will make him stand out.So when Lucky finds a glittering treasure chest filled with seashells, and a mysterious note that instructs the finder to "share the magic" he's convinced his life must be in for a whale of a change!
An absolutely adorable book about Lucky the Mermicorn and his quest to find his sparkle (magic). Filled with hilarious puns, sweet friendships, and gentle adventure, this is a delightful start to a sparkly chapter book series!
This was really cute. My son was so excited that Lucky is a boy mermicorn. Often when we read about unicorns and mermaids and such they are all girls. He's been telling me what he would look like if he were a mermicorn and what his "sparkle" would be. A really fun, sweet start to this series, we'll definitely be checking out the other books.
Lucky is a Mermicorn (half unicorn half mermaid) and he is looking for his Sparkle (his magic qualities). When he finds a treasure chest full of magic shells, the adventure begins.
Along with his friends Flash the Seahorse, Echo the Dolphin, Ruby and Fiona, can Lucky find the Sparkle his friends already have or will he be left behind? What happens when his emotions get the best of him and how that affects his friends? What about the magic shells? Will everything be resolved before Flash's birthday party?
Jason June has given readers a fun look into the oceanic world of the mermicorn, complete with acquatic puns. You gotta love Jason June's MC, Lucky, as a fun loving but lost little mermicorn just trying to find their Sparkle (like all of us), and June does so in such a sweet way. Honestly, I want somebody to animate the entire Mermicorn Island book series into an animated kids' series.
The text is good for proactive readers, but due to its length and some unique words may be a bit of a struggle for some more reluctant readers. The book serves as a good intro into ocean conservation (Lucky's Dad), mythology (Mermicorns and Poseidon), marine biology (the various fish characters, good and "bad") so go and search for your sparkle.
This book is super cute. It's an easy to read, short chapter book that will be perfect for young readers looking for a story of magic and friendship. The characters are adorable and relatable. The setting is really fun. While simple, this is a great book to help mermaid and horse lovers get into reading at a higher level than they may have been before - and to encourage a love of reading for fun.
