Ezra, a powerful exorcist with no faith in God, is tasked to protect a seemingly normal human from rising demonic forces. With his church under scrutiny and the threat of war on the horizon, will Ezra find his conviction in time? Or will Sunny suffer the consequences?
Welp, I have unlocked a new fetish called hot priests thanks to this lovely comic book. 😂
I've read this like 3, 4 times since getting the arc from Netgalley (how was I so lucky?!) But it is also readable online on Webtoons - https://www.webtoons.com/en/action/co...
So... if you like, ahem hot priests and beautiful art and a crazy story around a crazy bunch of queer people, enjoy!
I see someone added this fantastic webtoon to Goodreads, and since I've finished the first season let me go ahead and add this as done. AND LET ME SAY, THIS COMIC IS AMAZING. One of my favorites.
Think: Christian mythology retold. Hot priests fighting demons. Everyone is queer. The art is so cool and it's so unapologetic in its eye-candy-ness.
This comic says: "Why, yes, her armor is sexy and impractical, but so is his. And his. And hers." Gender equality here says everyone gets to be hot and it's okay.
There's a muscular butch lesbian in here, great bi rep, and a slowburn m/m storyline between an exorcist and an angsty, traumatized guy on the run from demons. It's a fun, action-adventure story that's not meant to be taken too seriously, yet it still offends so many people because of how unapologetically queer it is.
I'm praising this comic all the time and telling my friends to read it. So now, let me do the same for my Goodreads friends: Read it!!
Had to add this again because the original entry on GR can't be reviewed anymore. Maybe I have to check the single books which are now available because the series changed for the better regarding the romance and the guys just got more hot.
In the world of this graphic novel there is a subbranch of the Roman Church, the Church of Providence and it seems their main call is for protecting humanity against demonic forces, so obviously there are a lot of exorcists in there echelons. The main difference from the High Church isn't so much about a more detailed purpose or different rites but about a covenant with a patron angel who grace the exorcist with a special ability or weapon. So we find ourselves in a world of clergy super heroes; divers, handsome super heroes but of course it's not exactly smooth running because on the one side there is the High Church, always suspicious and distrustful, waiting for a chance to take Providence down; on the other side there are archangels playing their own game and if that and the usual demon activity isn't enough there are exorcists like Ezra who are struggling with their conviction.
Now who do you believe is getting an order from the archangel Gabriel to protect a certain human at all costs? So Ezra with the support of his team are doing exactly that: protect Sunny, even against his will, even without knowing why. They only have a cryptic prophecy and suddenly half of hell looking for the guy.
I have to admit that it took some episodes to get me hooked. Sure, the drawing is neat (although the focus is obviously on the characters and the action, not so much on the background), the coloring pleasantly reserved and there are nearly no typical Manga mannerisms but it seemed just like your usual super hero variety, a nice pastime but not more. That changed when the story got more complex and the main characters became a bit more than the stereotypical cast. Suddenly there were episodes where I just couldn't stop at the end without starting the next episode right way and of course I wanted to see some kind of romance between Ezra and Sunny. There is something special between those 2 but if it ever will become a romance it's a glacial slow-burn and at end of season 1 still only on its way without being inevitable but season 1 ends in a terrible cliffhanger anyway, so everything can happen.
2,5/5⭐️ love the artwork in it, it's so beautiful, but I wasn't really interested in the story itself, haven't read this on webtoon before, gives shadowhunters vibes
Thank you Netgalley for providing digital advanced copy in exchange for honest review.
This is one of my absolute favorite webcomics and I can't recommend it highly enough. Amazing art, well paced action, interesting plot, laugh-out-loud moments of humor, and, best of all, it's super gay. So go check it out! And be prepared to binge read
Okay, I'm up to date. Read until episode 90, aka the end of season 2. The author's taken a break due to mental health reasons.
1)Things I liked:
-The art: is simple but cute, and has really vivid colours. -The rythm. The story is SO dinamyc, the pages just flew by. -The vibes. This is very queer all the time. There's not a single straight character in this. -The thyrst. All the characters are dressed so sexily hahahaha. This makes for very cools looks. Unncesary? Definitely. Sometimes I worried they were gonna catch a cold. -The drama with the great church. I soecilly like the (no) relationship with Samson and her (old) bestie. Samson is my favoutite character, the one with a head on her shoulders and loyalty in spades. -the found family vibes. Tho I wish we had seen more of the team. -The poc rep. God bless bc like with the body thing, when it's lacking you notice.
2) Things I didn't like
-The art. Yes, I like it in general, BUT everyone has the same body. Which a) not realistic b) all the characters look like thin clones. c) Why are they so sexualised?! Ugh -The pace. Yes, very fast, but I don't feel we get enough bonding and development of characters. I mean, how am I supposed to ship Sunny and Ezra if they've had like 1 decent conversation(?) This why I like the drama with Samson and Adina way more -The main characters. Ezra is an okay MC(?). Only at the end his suicidal tendencies made him a bit more interesting. Sunny is really annoying (yes, he's an emo boi but come on...) -The cliffhanger. Every chapter ends in one. I get this is bc of the format, bc it's published in a serialized manner in w**toon. This is just a personal preference. It gives the sense that there's never a moment of rest, evreything's always ongoing. -Let's gloss over the fact that the city HD is called Los demonios...sigh
Overall, I enjoyed this. Was expecting a little more complexity, so it doesn't get 5 stars. I'm ready for s3
I have finished all that is currently out and I am in love. The art style is absolutely stunning and gorgeous, the story is captivating, and I'm loving the lore.
