Nightmares plague Max Duncan...and not just the undead type.
No one ever confused Max with being an emotionally stable individual. Now her mind is consumed with the need for revenge. Her body is healed from the the torture she received at the order of the remaining government. However, her mind can’t let it go.
When an accident causes Max to reevaluate the road she’s trying to go down, she is reminded of what’s important. As the world continues to crumble around the Duncan family and the dead continue to feast on the living, Max has to figure out how to put aside her need for vengeance.
In a world where every day is a threat to her life, Max must learn to work together with her family to keep them all alive. She won’t stop until they can stop looking over their shoulders and feel safe once again.
As a child, Courtney always had aspirations of being a writer. She participated in journalism in school. At home, she wrote short stories, poetry and filled diary pages. Somewhere along the line becoming an adult took priority over her writing and she went to work in business operations.
Now as a mother to three beautiful children, she tells them all the time to follow their dreams, be whatever they want. Those lessons reminded her how much she loved writing. She finally opened the door to making writing a real priority in her life.
Living outside of Portland, Oregon she loves the green and beauty Oregon offers. When she’s not matching wits with her children, her crazy Siberian Husky or her bi-polar cats, she enjoys binge reading, hikes and touring wineries. Courtney and her husband, the love of her life, enjoy traveling the world whenever they can get a free moment. And cruises….she loves cruising. She’s especially fond of life, laughter and sarcasm – and she’s excited to share all of that and more with her readers!
Normally I suck at sticking to a series but this one seems to be making a liar out of me. My zombie books bring me out of funks, give me all the dark, gore, grittiness I seem to crave that other books don’t deliver.
This series has it all, throw in some emotional scenes and I’ve been in my happy place. Getting to know these three siblings and their non blood misfits they’ve met along the way have become like family to me too.
Their main goal is to eliminate those that stand between their happy ever after, put their families at risk and keep them away from the compound and relative safety has made for a nail biting read.
One last book in this series where I’m guessing they go after ‘The Suit’ the man responsible for the virus outbreak. The man who would prefer that fact stayed buried.
Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) By Courtney Konstantin 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) by Courtney Konstantin. It is a story that pulled me in and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a journey that is emotional and includes danger. It is a book that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. Max is one of the main characters in the story. She is intelligent, strong-willed. And is one that takes chances. What does the future hold for Max and those with her? Read this book to find out. This story is suspenseful and emotional as well. The author does an amazing job of making the story and the characters come alive. There are additional characters that are interesting to read about. I felt like I connected to Max and those who are with her. There are also those whose motives are not good. Don’t miss out on a story that is exciting, intriguing, and entertaining. I would highly recommend reading it.
Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) by Courtney Konstantin is a YA Sci Fi paranormal story. This dystopian post-apocalyptic tale is a dangerous and emotional journey and great addition to this series. I have said it before but I am not a zombie lover, but Courtney has made this story unique and the plot different enough to entertain me. Courtney’s story is an original twist with lots of action and danger, drama and is so very engrossing. Her superb word smithing and vivid writing style, is very descriptive and makes it seem like you have been immersed in the story and fighting to survive. I had to keep turning the pages because I needed to know what was happening next.
Max is our MC and Courtney certainly puts her through the wringer.
If you love a thrilling and intensely gripping, then this is one for you.
Annoyed with the way Max did everything. Her recklessness was not a vibe. This felt really dragged out - Callahan. "The Suit". So many nothing chapters! Like what was the point of it all?!
Max Duncan is one of three siblings on the run from a government organisation who want her head, she is recovering from the torture she experienced at their hands and she has a family around her, but her thirst for vengeance against the man who tortured her is haunting her days and nights where she has nightmares of her being in that chamber again and this time not surviving. She is struggling with life in the group because of this, but the apocalyptic circumstances she finds herself in allow her to forget that her troubles when she is out on runs, or fighting for her life against the undead.
As she settles in for another meal with her family, not just joined by blood but by jointly held experiences she cannot stop thinking about the missed shot and the consequences of leaving this particular person alive, but she aspect she is struggling to accept the most is the person who missed that shot, it is a relic of thinking from her childhood, but something she is trying hard to change, but everyone around her is feeling the resulting tension. The one person she can count on though is her partner and her child's father, this is only enforced when they go out hunting together to gather some fresh meat for the group, plus the few days break from the tension will be good for everyone, not just Max. When they get back to their home base, they find that there are four of the undead there and have to delay their entrance to deal with the threat, then after moving them as far away as possible so as not to draw attention to themselves, then after they have cleaned up a family meeting is called, this is where they find out that they need to find someone, Max is not impressed and feels that it isn’t something they should be focussing on and also that the individual isn’t someone they should or can trust, instead it should be finishing what they started and getting rid of her torturer, there is a discussion where everyone weighs in their opinion and in the end she is overruled and the decision is made to find them.
As the plan is put into action, they also take the opportunity to find out about their other important person, however, the news is not what they want to hear but they agree that at least they have some idea on what is going on, but they take advantage of the opportunity to gather supplies from the gas station they stopped in before they head back, but it is an escape by the skin of their teeth when a large horde of the undead attack them as they are leaving. As the news of what they found is broken to the group, Max decides that they need more information and that she will be the one to go and get it, so she sets out with her favourite hunting partner to scout out locations and find a scavenger party so that they can abduct one of the members and get them to spill the information they know, however, albeit they got some more information, it doesn’t go quite to plan and her partner gets injured during the confrontation, this leads to them taking longer to get home and in the meantime becoming trapped due to the severity of the injuries and lo and behold, the person who comes to their rescue just happens to be one of the people they are looking for, but will they end up being a friend or foe in the days to come and will the information which they have gleaned during the run be enough for them to formulate and execute a plan to finally put a rest to all their troubles?
This post-apocalyptic thriller will leave you strung out after being whirled around on an emotional rollercoaster as the scenarios play out and decisions are made, this fast paced story is full of action and suspense throughout and will leave you wanting to read until the end.
Vengeance is the fifth thrilling instalment in the Sundown Series by Courtney Konstantin. This is such a brilliant zombie, post-apocalyptic survival story with so much heart pounding action, adventure, violence, drama, danger, a plague, fight scenes, tension, intensity, mystery, suspense, and so much more. The is so vivid- every detail so cleverly crafted that the entire story came to life, pulling me into all the heart-pounding action- and had me in survival mode, looking around every corner for any new threats- believe me, I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of this story. The book is intense, raw, gritty, and entirely gripping. Ms. Konstantin took me on an adventure that was so ‘real’ and believable- even though we don’t have zombies in the real world- she made a true believer- it was that realistic. There are a LOT of zombie apocalyptic stories that have made the rounds over the past few years, but this story/series has quite an original take on the zombie ‘lore’. I was immersed in the story- losing all sense of time and place- completely engrossed and entirely invested in the outcome. I devoured it in one sitting and am still thinking about it, days later- and to me, that’s a sign of a great story and a superb author! Ms. Konstantin has a bold, dynamic, and vividly descriptive style- which brought every single scene to life. I was right there, in amongst the action, fighting for survival! The story is so gripping, gruesome, and disturbing- but at the same time there are tender, emotive, and heartfelt moments which gave the story so much more depth. Even though this could be read as a standalone, there is so much more to know, with important storyline/backstory, intriguing developments, as well as character introductions/details to be found in the previous books. So, I really recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one as knowing what happened previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book. I cannot recommend this series and author highly enough! So, if you love a thrilling read with zombie/apocalyptic/survival theme- a gripping, well-written plot, and incredibly interesting characters- then this is the book/series for you! Seriously! What are you waiting for- it’s a definite ‘must read’! Addictive reading! Can’t wait for more!
The Duncan’s just ROCK! I can’t help but be impressed by this group. They are living in a difficult world now but have become stronger as the days go by. This story kept me reading and on the edge of my seat. Never knowing what was going to happen next unless it involved the infected (then...I knew). The emotions and thought process I went through while reading was enormous! Fright, worry, tears (yes I teared up!), happiness as well as wondering how I would do as one of these Characters...pretty sure the answer is not well.
The characters are simply Bad to the Bone! They all have little issues but they each have wondrous strengths that complement each other. Alex is the leader/mother type figure. But don’t cross her because she will go “Mamma Bear” on you! Rafe and all his knives... he just impresses me! He is a physically and mentally strong one. Max is on another level than these two. She speaks her mind, has one goal and loves her family. I loved watching how these and the others band together and fall apart.
This is an interesting series. I have only read a couple books in here. Each book explains what has happened or is happening to everyone so they are basically stand alones. I loved reading this and look forward to the last in the Sundown Series!
Vengeance is the first book I have read by Courtney Konstantin. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy starting with the 5th book in a series, but I quickly discovered that Courtney does a phenomenal job making this a stand alone book. She smoothly explained the characters in the story while not making it seem like an awkward explanation. There was also some important backstory that I will enjoy going back to read, but it was able to be shared within the context of the characters’ dialogue and inner thoughts. This is a story of family dynamics and characters’ journeys in an apocalypse. I really enjoyed that while aspects of zombie stories, such as how to kill the zombies, were retained, there was a fresh take on the characters and what they were enduring. At one point in some action, I found my entire body tense as I flew through the book to find out what would happen to Max. Max Duncan is a fantastic and interesting main character. I found lyrics to a song aptly describe Max’s journey. She is making her way in the world today taking everything she’s got. Jump into this series with this book or any of the other books in the Sundown series. You won’t regret it.
Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) by Courtney Konstantin was a great 5 star read. Once I started I was pulled right in, this isn’t my typical read but I really enjoyed it.
Max is a very strong woman, she and her family are fighting the infected humans during a zombie apocalypse. They are also trying to fix things that have gone wrong while also hiding from the government. There is a serious twist that turns Max’s world upside down.
Will the family survive? Will the truth come out?
My emotions were all over the place. We get danger, suspense and so much more in this great read. The author's writing brings you right into her world and you feel like you're right there with the characters. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Even though it is book 5 in the series it can be read as a stand alone. However I highly suggest you read from the beginning to thoroughly enjoy the series. 1-click and get started today.
This is book 5 in the Sundown Series but can be read as a standalone. However, there are references and characters from the first four books that may lead to more questions. I did read this book out of order and enjoyed it quite well. Well enough to get the rest I have missed!
This story, and series, is an apocalyptic-type story with the entire country being “infected” except for a select few. Our heroine Max along with her sister and brother and their new family are trying to right the wrongs and figure out the world without a true government while fighting/killing the “infected” who eat the uninfected humans.
I am left wondering what will happen to the family and how they will continue to survive. With the next threat coming at them questions remain! Looking forward to the next book.
I am also wondering if Konstantin writes other genres as her knack for thriller/adventure is spot on!
Vengeance is the last book in the Sundown series featuring Duncan siblings Alex, Max and Rafe and their ever growing extended family. Finally all together, the family must make a choice to live in fear of the Major Callahan's retaliation and desire to sweep their family off the earth or go after him and end this war for the greater good of humanity.
Konstantin still features all the gore, blood, and ugly zombie guts as she moves this family around the country in pursuit of Callahan. Battles are fought, self discoveries are made, and even gut wrenching losses happen shocking you into having to turn the next page. This series continues to captivate me until the very last page.
Vengeance was an ending to a new beginning. I can't wait to see what happens next as Konstantin continues this new world she's created with new and exciting characters to an already outstanding group of survivors.
Vengeance: Sundown Series, Book 5, by Courtney Konstantin 4 out of 5 stars Konstantin is one fantastic author. I love the Sundown Series. Konstantin has continued to bring us amazing stories, and this book is no different. This post-apocalyptic story is a great addition to this series but can be read alone. However, as a lover of books, I recommend reading any series in book order. Max is a strong woman who suffers a seriously tragic accident that changes her world. It is hard to describe what goes on in the book without giving too much away but know that this story is both suspenseful and highly emotional. I rarely cry in a book, but this one had me holding back some sobs. I recommend this book for YA, dystopian fantasy, mystery, and thriller. I highly recommended. 4 out of 5 stars.
Vengeance (The Sundown Series #6) by Courtney Konstantin
This is the first book I've read by Konstantin and I must say I'm looking forward to the next book. Courtney is an amazing, talented woman. This book had me in tears.
Max was a single mom until she found that her ex is still alive. When she brings Griffin home things work out very well. They make a great team and she won't leave him alone in his time of need. The quote I chose for Max is: “If you don’t wake up, I’m not sure how I’m going to get us out of here.”
Griffin is finally back where he's wanted to be since he was a teen. Max Duncan. His high school sweetheart. And his daughter Jack. The quote I chose for Griffin is: “This coming from you is comedic gold, truly. I wish Alex and Rafe were here to witness the words coming from your mouth."
I enjoyed this young adult story. I think any middle school aged to young adult would enjoy this story. This is a post-apocalyptic story that is emotional and suspenseful. This is the fifth book in this series but can be read as a stand alone. This is my first book in the series and I look forward to reading more from this series. This is a well developed story about Max who suffers a tragic accident that changes things for her. She is my favorite of the story and made the story fun to read. She has to look over her shoulder as she tries to keep her family safe. This is a story that is full of action and a great plot that kept me reading. Max and the other characters bring the story to life for me. I highly recommend this book.
Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) by Courtney Konstantin is not just another zombie apocalypse tale. Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there has been apocalyptic events. The difference is its not just a continual onslaught of zombies in one scene after another. These are people living real lives amidst great adversity. It’s the every day dealing with people that are all different in their own unique ways, but all the same. You know, like life. Although this is a part of a series this story stands on its own. I love how Max finds out that even though you have the right idea and feel the need to follow through, its not always the best thing at the time. Its hard to know the difference sometimes. I am looking forward to reading the next one.
Vengeance by Courtney Konstantin is the firth book in the Sundown series. This book can be read as a stand-alone or as part of the series. This is a YA dystopian novel that is well written and action packed. I knew when I started this book that it was going to be exciting and fast paced but I didn’t expect it to be such an emotional story. I was completely connected with the main character and it felt like I was taking the journey with her. Although this is the first book I have read in this series it never felt like I was missing out on what had happened although after reading this one I will be going back to read the others. This is a well written and detailed book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am looking forward to discovering more by this author.
Vengeance by Courtney Konstantin is the fifth book in Sundown Series. Don't worry if you haven't read the other books the author sets this up as an excellent standalone. Max is on a dangerous path and coming back from being tortured. Can she handle the pressure that is mounting more and more? I really enjoy Max because she is strong-willed and determined. The story building of a dystopian future is well done allowing one to be taken into the story. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read a dystopian book at the moment with the pandemic going on but this actually was well done and didn't disappoint. I have only read a few of the books by this author but I will be looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Vengeance (Sundown Series Book 5) By Courtney Konstantin
This book is intriguing, full of suspense, action and what surprised me the most was how emotional it was. Even though this is the fifth book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. There are wonderful characters in this story and you can't help but become invested. I don't normally read zombie stories but this one is more than a zombie story, it is different than any I have read before. I really enjoyed the dynamics in this family and their different personalities. This is a well written book that was enjoyable to read. I recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this story. It is well written and all the characters are well developed and likeable. This is the fifth book in the series but it is OK to read as a standalone as the book makes sense without reading the previous ones. It's a gripping story that is fast paced from the beginning.
This book is set in a time when there is a zombie apocalypse is happening. Max and her family have found a safe haven safe from the zombies and the government who are after them. Max and her family know the truth behind the outbreak so the government is trying to capture them to keep it quiet. With other people to try and rescue it is a story about deciding what's best. Do they leave potential survivors for the safety of themselves? Or do they risk it all to help safe others?
Vengeance By Courtney Konstantin Vengeance is book 5 in the Sundown series. If you want a book that is action packed, sometimes emotional and full of suspense then this is the book that you need to read. Courtney has such a style of writing that if you haven’t read any other books in this series not to worry it’s a good stand-alone book. However, on saying that it is always good to start at the beginning, so you don’t miss out on any information about characters in future books. If you are starting with book 5 you won’t have to worry about not knowing the characters as Courtney writes them in such a way that you will feel you already know them. So do your self a favor and grab the book you won’t want to put it down.
No spoilers here except that I hate losing people that I have come to love and care for.
Book 4 was the hardest book for me to read but this one still hurt.
I cannot wait to find out what happens next and am so sad that it is ending.
I have been in such a book funk lately. I did not finish (DNF) about 45 books over the last few months. Nothing really caught my attention or if it did, a few chapters in my attention was lost. So I decided to go back and reread several series that I had already read. The Sundown Series was on that list. It was just as good as when I read it before and much to my pleasure, there was 3 additional books. Woohoo for me!

Vengeance was a great read; it is the fifth book in the Sundown series but could be read as a standalone. I have read others from the series and also recommend them. The author has a great writing style that really draws you into the story and although it is a YA read I really enjoyed it. The storyline was good and engaging and I really liked the characters. Max was a nice character to read about and her story definitely kept me interested the whole way through. The author’s attention to detail was another huge positive for this book. I would definitely recommend this story and think YA readers would really enjoy it.
5 Stars Vengeance (The Sundown Series Book 5) by Courtney Konstantin
Vengeance is the fifth book in The Sundown Series by Courtney Konstantin and can be read as a standalone. This is my first read by this author. It’s a post apocalyptic. I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is quite the emotional rollercoaster ride., my emotions were all over the place. Get ready for the emotional journey Max takes you on she’s suffered a tragic accident and tries to keep her family safe. Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Autho
Vengeance is the fifth book in the Sundown series. It can be read as a standalone. The author does a good job of weaving in important backstory so you don’t feel like you are missing anything. This book has everything you’d expect in a post-apocalyptic tale, include a variation of zombies. Overall, I would say this particular story is really more about the interpersonal relationship development of the characters as they get prepared to go after an old enemy. That being said, it does have plenty of suspense and danger mixed in to keep things moving right along. There are also some emotional moments that will get you right in the feels.
This is a great SciFi, Paranormal story. I would say that this would be a great additional story for the Young Adult genre as well. Even though this book is Book 5 of the series, it can be a stand alone. The plotline is a fast paced post-apocalyptic suspenseful story. I could not stop reading this book. I was turning the pages so fast that I almost got paper cut. It is centered around one character, Max. I felt that she was fully developed and well liked. She was in a tragic accident that changed her life around. She is marked and has to watch her back at all times. She wants to keep those close to her safe. I highly recommend this story to see what happens to Max.
The first book was awesome. Second less awesome. And so on… by book 5 I lost interest. I’m trying to put my finger on why, perhaps just my own zombie reading preferences..? The series is well thought out but as the books go by it’s less zombie and more about egotistical zealots and people killing them etc. I’d give a 3.5 for writing, if you like zombie books that are more than zombies this would be for you. The author did good. If you want zombie blood n guts n gore and all that, move along.
