The Prodigal Prince's Fake Fiancé

Rate this book
His Royal Highness Morgan Schuyler, an aggressively toppy trans man, wants nerdy Lin Callahan the moment he sees him. When a hurricane in the Atlantic grounds their flight, Morgan seizes the opportunity to share a hotel suite with his petite, cis lust object. Their torrid fling ends with the flight to New York City, but a coffee shop run-in reveals they’re attending the same posh fine arts grad school.

While they’re both still daydreaming about that weekend together, neither will admit it. Feelings are awkward, and Morgan refuses to have them for anyone but his childhood best friend, Carmen. As for Lin...his ex-boyfriend has moved cross-country in an attempt to rekindle a romance that doesn't hit the same since that weekend in France.

When Morgan’s forced to choose between an arranged marriage and presenting his parents with a fake fiancé, he’ll need to navigate his attraction to Lin without catching feelings. How is it possible to want someone so much and yet be so terrified of their emotional intimacy? Maybe that's why Morgan still hasn't told Lin he's royalty...

This 73k contemporary m/m trans #ownvoices romance combines perennial favorite tropes such as the Secret Royal with a Fake Relationship, Stranded with Only One Bed, a Fling in Europe leading to Unrequited Love and a Second Chance, and ultimately a Return to Hometown for a Playboy Prince as True Love mends a Fractured Family.

The big strength of this book to me was the trans representation, how Morgan's thoughts and experiences regarding it was portrayed and how it affected him personally, his relationship to his parents and the world around him, as well as his relationship with Lin on an emotional and sexual level. While I can't speak for the authenticity of it since it's not my personal experience, it appeared to me to be well done, respectful and well incorporated into the story.

Unfortunately I really struggled with the relationship in this book. It felt imbalanced from the start and never really balanced out in my eyes. Most of the book and the relationship is centered around Morgan, his family situation, his internal issues, and his wants and needs. It felt to me like Lin came secondary a lot of the time, and Lin never really sets any boundaries or asks much of Morgan but does whatever Morgan asks of him regardless of what lack of commitment and mixed messages he is given in return. I like reading about relationships where both partners give somewhat equally to the other and make sacrifices for each other, but here it felt very one-sided which made it hard for me to feel invested in the relationship.

THIS WAS SO GOOD

I have many Thoughts, and Feelings. But I like to write reviews in the spur of the moment as soon as I finish so y’all are just gonna get some stream of consciousness here. This book was lovely. It was funny, and sappy, and clever, and there was sooo much lovely pining. The trans rep was great, others have already said more eloquently than I could, so I’ll just add that I appreciated the openness and candor. I loved that we as the reader got to understand very early on that Lin and Morgan were perfect for each other, and so got to spend the rest of the book in delicious pining agony while they each figured it out themselves in their own ways. I bawled at the end. It was great.

I have one small bone to pick, which is the image for the cover. Morgan has a beard! It’s mentioned several times. And Lin was an ice dancer, he wouldn’t slump. This lovely book deserves better.

Fake dating isn’t my favorite trope but I was drawn to try this after hearing about the stellar representation and it did not disappoint. This was a nuanced story amidst the wealthy playground vibe and while Lin and Morgan’s relationship felt a bit unbalanced at times (I think this is hard to avoid with fake dating) the latter half of the book especially won me over.

Though I’m not a binary trans man like Morgan, I am trans, and it was clear that the authors have a grasp on the unique hurts and comforts of living a trans life. The verbiage choices, portrayal of Morgan’s confidences and anxieties, the physical representation, and the dynamic of Morgan’s family life and their adjustments were all things that I found especially realistic and in some moments highly affirming.

Lin was an adorable gem - he struck a wonderful balance of being appreciative without being fetishistic. Morgan was very toppy, as advertised, and reveled in the chance to be with a guy like Lin. I’m pleased that both MCs made a point to uplift one another in their pleasure, especially with the vulnerabilities at play. Even while grappling with keeping their feelings at a certain distance I felt their affectation under the surface. While part of a bit of a power exchange there was tons of enthusiastic consent, communication, and mutual interest.

A fun read with some truly hot scenes and A+ rep.

I absolutely adored Lin and Morgan!!! This book had some of my favourites:

💍Fake Fiancé
👬Friends with benefits
💔Playboy
🛏Only one Bed
🎨Stunning portraits
👑Royalty

I loved how Lin is smitten with Morgan from the firat meeting but Morgan is bit slow to realize how deeply he has fallen. Morgan is fierce and knows exactly want he wants. He's also a huge commitment phobe. And Lin is nerdy and a bit insecure but also very cute.

It amazing to watch their relationship grow slowly. Morgan's struggle with his parent's lack of acceptance is very well written.

This book is a standalone and has dual POV. If you enjoy rom-coms and fake relationships with lots of steam, I'd definitely recommend this book!

...I only kept skimming my way through this because it was free, and I kept waiting to enjoy it?

The authors depict the reality and vulnerability of being a trans guy very well I thought.

I didn't really enjoy this book because it didn't feel like the MCs were enjoying themselves. I was well shown, as a reader, that they were falling in love/were in love with each other, and enjoyed being together, but they were never happy about it.

I REALLY did not like all the lying and deception. It's a fake fiancé book, which I knew, but I thought maybe being a couple of very rich people might make up for it. It didn't. There I was, flicking away at 50% of the book (getting that far took me a couple of days) ..."I'm so not enjoying this..." flick flick flick...

This is head and shoulders better written than most recent m/m new releases. It is a good book, just not one I enjoyed.

I really loved this book!
Something different, a fairy tale revisited in a special way. I really appreciated the style of writing and how the subject is treated. All seasoned with an infinite sweetness and cuteness.
My first transgender story but so worth it! Well done!

I really enjoyed this story. I hated that Morgan never thought he would truly find happiness and it takes a bit but he finds so much more with Lin than he ever dared hope for. I thought Lin was adorable, he just wanted to be around Morgan and even accepted the crazy plan just to do that but he was the only one that really got to see Morgan vulnerable. These two have quite the ups and downs but it all works out in the end.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review

I previously enjoyed the trans MC in these authors' The Phisher King, so I was curious. I had imagined this lighter story would be less deep in character, but I truly adored Prince Morgan, an aggressively toppy trans man who fights for his right to be Prince, not Princess. He also is desperate to continue the US university study he loves learning fashion design, when his future as a ruler seems set in stone (as an only child of a small principality's rulers.) This is a contemporary, with only the small European nation a fabrication.

The sweet, low-key, artist love-interest, Lin, and Morgan's fight against calling what he feels love, kept me reading straight through. Sometimes I got impatient with Morgan, but his reasons for shying away from relationships were entwined with his dynastic situation, so that gave me a little more empathy.

There was an instant where it was Lin, rather than Morgan, who moved an important opinion, but that's probably realistic rather than cis savior. Sometimes people are mired in their opinions and it takes a new voice to open their eyes. The ending is sweet and although I wouldn't call this story realistic in all ways (eg. I can't imagine the absence of security for either of these MCs given their families' wealth) but the story made me willing to overlook those details.

This story introduces us to Prince Morgan and Lin . From the moment they meet, Prince Morgan, a confident and assertive trans man, feels an undeniable attraction to Lin, a reserved and nerdy individual. When a hurricane strands them in a hotel suite, their brief fling ends with the flight to New York City, but their paths cross again at a coffee shop, revealing they're attending the same fine arts grad school.

The chemistry between Morgan and Lin is undeniable, and their fake engagement becomes a thrilling journey of emotional intimacy. Morgan's struggle to reconcile his royal duties with his growing feelings for Lin adds depth to the story. Lin's journey of self-discovery and navigating his past relationships creates a relatable and engaging character arc.

The relationship between Morgan and Lin is filled with moments of genuine connection and heartfelt exchanges. However, some parts of the plot feel predictable, and a few secondary characters could have been more developed.

This book offers an engaging read for fans of royal romances, blending humor, emotion, and a touch of drama. Morgan and Lin’s journey from a fake engagement to genuine feelings is both entertaining and heartwarming.

I've never read anything by either of the authors before. I bought this book on impulse, when I saw someone rec it on twitter, and I'm really glad I did, because it is delightful. It's the story of a playboy prince who is both bi and trans, and determined to be 100% authentic to himself, no matter what.

In order to put off an arranged marriage, he asks the cute nerdy artist he had previously seduced and abandoned to be his fake fiance for a bit to buy him time. Except they don't want their "fake" relationship to ever end.

Also, I love how the authors handled Morgan's relationship to his previous identities, and the way he felt and was treated when presenting as a butch lesbian vs a bisexual trans guy. Honestly, I really just loved this book. It was a very nice surprise.

Artistic grad students

Taking a prince in hiding and a scion of a billionaire also in hiding, both attending a NYC graduate school is a variation on a well used trope. But with one a trans man, and adding the tropes of height difference and fake engagement, Euclid and Nacht present an intriguing variation. Highly graphic hot bed scenes educate clearly the passion these young men have together. The family dynamics are critical in importance. Great read.

*shrugs*...rich people drama, but what can I say, I couldn't look away from my Kindle screen.  To be fair, this is a fairy tale about a prince and the youngest son of a billionaire with a whole lot of tropes thrown in to make it interesting.  So I wasn't sure what to make of it because this is normally the type of plot I avoid...however, it's written by the dynamic duo of Thursday Euclid and Clancy Nacht; and they can't do wrong.  (Seriously, pick any of their books to read--they are all well-written, original, and grammatically correct, which is awesome).

I was entertained by this guilty indulgence; and I gotta say that a helicopter is the best choice when you're racing off to catch your runaway fake fiance.  However, there is a serious undertone to the story because Morgan is transgender and desperately wants to be acknowledged by his family as being a man.  And he's indeed a manly man, so I desperately wanted him to be accepted by his family as well.  Now Lin on the other hand is emotionally open, endearing, and a bit of an adorable puppy dog as he breaks down Morgan's emotional walls.  He's exactly what Morgan needs.  Overall, I believed in their relationship and wanted them to gave a happily ever after.

And there's an occasional reality check:

"This is my fiance.  My real fiance, Morgan Schuyler."

"Good for you.  This is a jet.  A jet full of people.  Can you two clear the way so we can go?"

Hehehe ;-)

This was a really good trans gender story. I loved how the subject matter was treated. The struggles Morgan faces and how he deals with them, Lin was perfect for him. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received.

Enjoyable, well-written fake boyfriend romance. Morgan is a complex character and full of contradictions, very self-assured and daring on the one hand, but also quite vulnerable and very much under his parents’ thumb on the other. He’s definitely intriguing and lovable but has a blind spot when it comes to his own emotions and is not always aware of how his actions impact others, especially Lin. A blind man could see Lin and Morgan are made for each other, but they need a little help from a well-meaning friend and family. I loved the gradual way they went from a passionate hookup to friends to fake fiancés to love, as well as how Morgan being a transman was worked into the story and how that played out in his relationship with his parents and Lin, respectively. It takes Morgan a long time to open up to Lin about being a royal, but then Lin also has things to hide and is not exactly a beggar falling for his secret prince, which I liked as it brought balance to their dynamic.

This was my first transgender book. I liked it so much that I immediately read it again.

Not knowing much of anything about trans people or the process, I found the psychology of the story fascinating. Morgan makes a great man, I think. Lin certainly thinks so, even from the first meeting.

The struggle that Morgan goes through to claim his place on his own terms works out, in the end. I love the way he owns his sexuality and demands that others accept him as he is. He’s a force of nature. Lin is the perfect foil for Morgan and his flashiness.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters stuck in my head and kept me thinking about them. Great job!
