With Remembrance Day approaching, I highly encourage you to read We Will Remember Them: The Story of Remembrance with your children. This beautifully illustrated non-fiction book sensitively explains to children why it is so vitally important to remember those we have lost in wars. On November 11th, we pay special homage to those who have died in service to our country. We remember these brave men and women for their courage and their devotion to our country’s ideals. It is so important for us to show respect and appreciation not only to those that have fallen, but also to the men and women actively serving today. This book gives readers an overview of World War I, World War II, and other wars from recent history. It explains the history behind poppies, why we hold one - or two - minute silences, and what happens in commemorative parades and ceremonies across Commonwealth nations. You will also find poems and quotes from veterans who bravely fought in various wars within the pages of this book. Touchingly, this book was produced in partnership with the Royal British Legion, and for every copy sold a donation is made to the legion. This is a truly stunning book that expertly tells the worldwide story of remembrance through poignant words and striking illustrations. In conclusion, this book is a wonderful way for both young and old readers to learn why we all must honour our fallen soldiers and work to maintain peace ourselves every day of the year.
This is a gently-written, beautifully illustrated overview of World War 1, World War 2, other wars and the road to peace - through remembering the sacrifice and suffering of war. Written from a British/Commonwealth perspective, with much interesting but not overwhelming detail, it includes a glossary, further books and websites, and the poems 'In Flanders Fields' by John McCrae; 'We Shall Keep the Faith' by Moina Belle Michael; and 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon.
Somthing that stuck with me from this book War had stopped at 11am on the 11th day and 11th month. I often think if it wasnt for them who would be all be or even what would the world look like if it wasnt for what they did.
