Jaime y las bellotas

"Jaime plantó una bellota, pero… antes de que pudiese crecer una ardilla la desenterró y la escondió. Jaime plantó una bellota, germinó y brotó de la tierra, pero…" Así comienza una sucesión de escenas, narradas de modo ágil, breve y repetitivo. Una técnica muy recurrente en los cuentos destinados a primeros lectores y de gran utilidad para su narración oral, con la que se pretende implicar al público infantil. Mantener una estructura narrativa se convierte en una regla mnemotécnica esencial para que los niños sepan cómo continúa el cuento. Porque Jaime no se da por vencido cuando su primera bellota no planta otra pero los animales la pisan, mosdisquean los brotes de la que empezaba a nacer; los niños estropean la planta que germinara con otra semilla, los leñadores talan el árbol que llegara a hacerse alto y fuerte... hasta que la enésima bellora de Jaime se convierte con el paso del tiempo en un roble robusto que da como fruto… más bellotas.

«After changing direction many times, experimenting with different forms of living, everything fell into place when I gave my first storytelling performance at a festival in 1984. It happened almost by accident but by the end of the show I knew that storytelling was my next step in life.

The joy of that moment, the delight in sharing these treasures, the pleasure of deepening my own experience of the tales each time I tell them, has never left me since then and I’m sure it never will.

Since leaving the UK in 2001 I have been based in Spain, performing all over the country, as well as in Portugal, Switzerland, Tunisia, Greece, Turkey, Colombia and India.

When I am not telling, I enjoy writing for both adults and children and have been lucky enough to publish several books.»
