Underworld Kings #7

The Bratva's Heir

Rate this book
A stand-alone novel in the Underworld Kings series

Prison’s a dark, bleak place.
But Clare brings me light.
My sweet little bird will be my ticket to freedom.

The first time I saw her, I had to have her.
From her big, dark eyes, to the curves she can’t conceal...
The way she can only hold my gaze so long.
The way she shivers every time I move inside these chains.
And most of all, the way she’ll bend the rules when I order her to...

I know a natural submissive when I see one.

Her degrees and titles don’t change who she is: a woman who will bend to my will.
She doesn’t know it yet, but Clare is mine.

Mine to train.
Mine to protect.
And mine to control…

If you follow my reviews at all, you probably know that I am total trash for anything mafia/Bratva/MC-club/gang-whatever, you get the idea.

Sadly, though, I have seemingly tapped the well of all of these various subgenres so many times that new, quality offerings are hard to come by for me as of late.

Enter The Bratva's Heir...

Now, this wasn't the best thing in the bratva/mafia genre that I've ever read by any means, but it had a wonderfully delicious alphaphole male lead and some super decent possessive smexy smexy.

Consider my endless craving to be quelled for another week.

I know you better than you know yourself. You think you want a gentleman? A Prince Charming? Someone to buy you flowers and rub your feet?
...You want permission,” I say. “To be as bad as you want to be. You want to be told to get down on your knees, to open your mouth, to do as you’re told… so you don’t have to feel guilty. Because you’re just doing what Daddy said…”

Ummm excuse me?! THE AUDACITY. The sheer AUDACITY to write something this hot and not to put a warning that I shouldn't read it in public? Jane and Sophie, I demand to speak to your manager!
I’ve always had certain proclivities. I don’t like kissing, I don’t like cuddling, I don’t like murmuring sweet endearments in the dark. What I like is total obedience. Total control. .

Some girls like dirty talking alphas. Some girls enjoy the morally corrupt anti heroes. This girl? I want it all. But my true crack of choice is convicts. That sounds worse when I read it out loud, but you know what I mean. There's just something about a dangerous anti hero who's locked up but you just know he won't be for long that just makes my blood run hot. I live for it. And the second I read the blurb for this book, I knew I needed it. But nothing prepared me for the sensual punch that it brought. Because mama! Or should I say, Daddy? *Evil grin*

Now admittedly, the daddy kink thing isn't my fave, but GOD it just worked for me here. Constantine is the kind of uber alpha I die for. He's a ruthless Bratva enforcer with a penchant for control, in all facets of his life, including the bedroom. And when he first lays eyes on the demure and innocent looking prison psychologist, he can read her desires a mile away. If you like praise kink and the hate everyone but her vibes, this book has it in spades.
Tell me I’m your good girl…”
“You’re my princess, my queen. I’ll slaughter anyone who lays a finger on you. Only I touch you. Only I look at you. You’re mine and mine alone.”

While what you see is what you get with Constantine, Clare is a bit different. She starts off demure but then really grows into her own. Watching her evolution through discovering more about her sexuality was satisfying as all get out. I love how she's equally terrified of and turned on by Constantine when she meets him. I also loved her evolution into someone a lot more fierce towards the end.

This book was pure crack. There was action, twists and turns, and ALL OF THE STEAM. Oh my GAWD. The steam! THE STEAM! I devoured this book and licked my fingers afterwards. Hell I felt like I needed a cigarette after. Was the ending a little OTT on Clare's side, a little. But did I care? Not even a little. This was pure mafia romance crack. CRACK I tells ya!

The Bratva's Heir is a cowritten mafia romance, but if I wasn't informed beforehand, I never would have guessed! Jane Henry and Sophie Lark's writing styles flow together beautifully. The story is perfectly paced and continously intriguing. I flew through it in no time!

As much as I enjoyed the action, mystery, and suspense, Clare and Constantine's chemistry made the book for me! Their connection was instant. Sexual tension poured off the pages in every scene they were in, and the steamy scenes were on point. The two of them complimented each other in pretty much every single way. I couldn't help but enjoy watching them fall in love!

If you're a mafia romance/romantic suspense fan, this one's for you!

This was so fun! I loved the dynamic of how Constantine is in prison for life for murdering his wife, a crime he is adamant he didn't commit. Clare is a psychologist and she is assigned to diagnose Constantine. Once the two start talking, though, Constantine immediately gets under Claire's skin and she doesn't know how to deal with him. Before she knows it, Constantine is escaping prison and taking her with him. He thinks she knows something about who set him up and gets very creative in his ways to get information out of her. I thought it was action-packed and fun, but I do wish that Clair had more of a backbone and personality throughout the book. She was mostly dragged along while Constantine ran the show and tried to figure out who had set him up. Overall, though, I'd definitely recommend this Brava romance!

I’ve stolen a princess, and now I want to keep her.

Constantine and Clare are fire. Even though they come together in the least romantic of places they were clearly made for each other. If you enjoy mafia romance or captive romance, then The Bratva’s Heir is the perfect read for you. There’s a bit of mystery and suspense, but also that forbidden romance with a dark edge to it. As a heads up, there is some BDSM in this one.

The Bratva's Heir is a standalone about Clare and Constantine and I hate that I didn't enjoy this as much as all my other Goodreads friends. Clare is a psychologist and intends on helping Constantine who is in jail to reintegrate into society one day...although he is accused of murdering his fiancé. When Constantine meets Clare, his plans change and in his quest for revenge and to clear his name he kidnaps Clare on his way out of breaking free of jail. Will Clare and Constantine give in to their lust? Will Constantine clear his name? Where do their futures go from here?

I found most of this story rudimentary. I didn't care for Clare and the number of times we were told she flinched or startled was excessive. I understood by the third "she's a submissive" that she was in fact a submissive. Clare did grow a little more bold as the story unfolded but I prefer my heroines to be fierce and challenge their heroes from the beginning. I suppose her profession and background (sheltered or not) gave me hope that she had a backbone and unfortunately that just wasn't the case. Ultimately, Constantine didn't have to work for it and I found their interactions childish. I mean...he's Bratva...why does he want a doormat? I'll add that I'm really not one for daddy kink and while it was light, I didn't think it worked in this story. There was quite a bit of steam in here but because I imagined Clare as having no original thoughts or actions of her own, it felt off putting. Speaking about the story, it was pretty predictable but I enjoyed it enough to finish it. These authors write well don't get me wrong but this particular story and its characters annoyed me to the point of distraction. Overall, I wouldn't read this again and I wouldn't recommend it but as I said before a lot of my Goodreads friends loved it so maybe it's just me.

Constantine Rogov is the heir to the U.S. Russian mafia. He has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his fiancee, who belonged to the Irish mob. Now behind bars he has built a reputation as one of the most feared and unstable men. Clare Nightingale is a young psychologist in Constantine's high security prison and his case is assigned to her. Constantine does not know makes it easy but she is not intimidated by him. When Constantine discovers Clare's identity, a new plan emerges. With each new interaction the sparks ignite until their chemistry explodes, and their connection intensifies. Now the two team up to seek justice and prove Constantine's innocence.

I really enjoyed this book and if you are looking for a reading that contains Mafia romance, steamy romance, mystery and its good dose of action, you should definitely read The Bratva’s Heir. Constantine is possessive, domineering and his personality is so peculiar that you are instantly drawn to him. As for Clare, she seems naive at first but is very smart, noble and has her cheeky side. Together they are a bomb!

What a fantastic, fast paced read by the duo of Jane Henry and Sophie Lark! I have read books by both of these authors and enjoyed them immensely, but this collaboration in the Underworld Kings world was just off the chain! There is just SO much going on. The taboo in that it’s a doctor/patient relationship when the attraction and inappropriate interactions starts. Kidnapping. Murder and betrayal. This is a story filled with action, suspense, and a good dose of searing hot kink. Super well written, the whole storyline is extremely fluid considering just how much is going on. Constantine just is dominant to his core and has a magnetism that’s going to make you want to call him daddy, too! Clare is the perfect good girl trying to make her own way separate from her controlling socialite parents. You just fall in love with both of these characters both for themselves and for what they do for each other. This was really just a fantastic collab and hopefully they’ll be some more in the future!

“I’m no fucking social experiment. I won’t be reformed. I’m a criminal. A monster. A killer. I always have been, and I always will be.”

i'm very disappointed. only reason i read this was because its a sophie lark book.

the girl was annoying and just not a main character that i would enjoy reading. she literally was embarrassing to read because he easily manipulated and used her. she just acted dumb most of the time.

sophie lark's females are usually so strongminded but not this one. the plot was eh. i don't even remember it at this point. something about him being in jail for a murder that he didn't commit. he uses her to get outta prison and they solve the "mysterious" crime. basically, prison break but make it with michael's smart brain. just ignore me at this point.

This book follows Constantine & Clare. Constantine is the Bratva Heir who has been incarcerated for the last 6 months for the murder of his fiancé. He has been actively trying to prove his innocence with no luck. *enters Clare*
Clare is assigned to be Constantines therapist. As soon as she meets him, you can feel their chemistry. But Clare has a secret…she is the daughter of the DA. Once Constantine finds out who she is, his prison break plans are set in motion and she is now part of that plan.
There is so much that happens in this book and I am so impressed by how all of the pieces of the puzzle came together at the end. There is action, police corruption, murder, betrayal and OMG lots and lots and lots of ✨satisfying✨ times. NO IM FOREAL.
Clare and Constantines scenes are so 🥵😮‍💨😮‍💨

Clare and Constantine have an instant chemistry. And he calls her Ptichka which means Little Bird. And I am happy to announce that my nickname is now Little Bird. Yes, I am making this about me—mind your business. Constantine is so good at reading Clare and he is so possessive of her😮‍💨 the way he talks to her had me like “wow, so thatʻs what itʻs like being Godʻs favorite.”

I finished this book in one sitting and I have no regrets. This was a great mafia read. Itʻs fast paced and the Russian nicknames and phrases are always a great addition. Yʻall read this, you wonʻt regret it.

*Thank you to the Authors and Social Butterfly PR for an ARC of this title.*

So, here we are. The book in the Underworld Kings that I was the most excited for. I can't even pretend otherwise. My great love for Sophie Lark and how she writes Mafia is well documented at this point. I have also made it a point to read some of Jane Henry's books so that I could familiarize myself with her talents as well. Which had me salivating to read a book they worked on together.

This is a story of a prim and proper therapist, Clare, who is supposed to analyze prisoners and see if they can be rehabilitated. When she comes face to face with Constantine, an inmate who is accused of murdering his fiancé and apparently shows no remorse. He should terrify her, and he does… but she can't help but be drawn to him and want to know more. And why does she find herself goading him and wanting to so whatever he commands?

Constantine sees a woman he can use for his escape, at least, that’s what he tells himself he needs her for. She also happens to be the only daughter of the DA who landed him in prison. The perfect person to help him achieve his revenge.

This forbidden romance was a thrill ride from start to finish. It had a splash of deviance and a whole lot of steaminess. Make sure you clear your schedule before you pick it up.

What I liked: This book started off quick and it kept going the whole way through. I loved both characters right away. I loved their chemistry and the way they thought about the other. They were both immediately in too deep, even Constantine, who tries to keep a cold, commanding distance can't help himself. This two are a spark and flame and the blaze is beautiful… and steamy as heck.

Having read books by both authors, I feel like this book is a great mix of them both. The heat level is high up there and the passion just leaps off the page. I honestly wish this was a series because I want more of them both, but it also had a beautiful HEA and I would hate to watch them be tortured more. So I'll be content.

What I didn't like: Well…. It's hard to pick out anything specific. I do wish there had been a scene or two between Clare and her mother after everything happens, and I wanted a bit more closure about the life Clare was living before Constantine as it feels like that part of the story ends kind of abruptly. However, the story was very tightly written so it's not a hardship.

Overall I was addicted the whole way through and I had a great reading experience.

Psychologist Clare visits a maximum security prison to treat convicted killer Constantine; soon, however, she's feeling more than professional interest in this Bratva heir. When he kidnaps her during his prison break, will she help him clear his name -- even if it means that her own family will suffer in the process? I note that many reviewers compare the MC's dynamics to the Joker and Harley Quinn; I've never read that story, but I have read an omegaverse recently with similar plot points. Of course, all these stories are inspired by the granddaddy of law-abiding good girl and law-breaker bad boy: The Silence of the Lambs.

If you're looking for an erotic mafia romance that isn't too dark, you may enjoy this. This actually isn't all that non-con -- for which I was thankful. I've never read anything by Sophie Lark, but I've read tons of Jane Henry, and this pairing is good for the latter. This was better-written, less repetitious, and contained more detailed sex scenes and fewer plot holes than Ms. Henry's other books do. Never fear, however, this author's trademark pairing (a likeable MFC who is the "light" to the über-possessive/protective MMC's "dark") is perfectly captured in Clare and Constantine. I particularly appreciated that their ultimate goals were diametrically opposed since this created high-stakes, organic tension (though Clare's feelings towards her parents mitigated that somewhat). Finally (in terms of positives), while much of the plot was predictable, I did not see the plot twist coming so there is some suspense. (That said, I did wonder about a couple of loose ends, such as .)

My main quibble here is with Clare, who throughout I had little respect for. This genre tends to present professional women as natural "submissives" who, even in the workplace, can't talk to an alpha without blushing. I'm tired of the "flutters," the "flinches," the "squirms," and the "squeals." It's impossible to believe that any of these women are well-educated careerists when their professional ethics go out the window at the first sign of an attractive man. And she's awfully quick to sell out . Finally, I guess having unprotected sex with someone you just met is now the hot thing to do in these books? If so, it leaves me cold since I'm too busy thinking "are you both crazy?"

3 1/2 stars which I'm raising to 4 because it's one of the few books I've finished during my epic reading slump. If these two authors revisit this world -- which they very well might -- I hope they create a female character who isn't ruled by her hormones.

4.5 STARS

The Bratva’s Heir is a fast-paced, edge of your seat mafia Romance.

What I loved:
1. The forbidden aspect of criminal and psychiatrist.
2. It’s mafia
3. Constantine is the perfect blend of harsh antihero and loving man.
4. Claire’s evolution into an equal.
5. The suspense and action packed plot.

What I didn’t love:
1. I didn’t really dislike anything. It was a bit insta-love, lust. The relationship is heightened but the suspense, so they didn’t have a time to properly get to know one another, but I think that is the type of trope it is.

This is a must read, for sure. I absolutely loved this one!

I love a romance story where the main character is a convict and if there is a prison break in the cards, just perfect! Clare and Constantine's story was a pleasant one to read. I could easily distinguish Jane Henry's and Sophie Lark's influence on the book. It was a kinky story to read with a lot of predictable moments for me that had me thinking: "I knew it!" every now and then!

The Bratva's Heir is my first book by Jane Henry and Sophie Lark but wow, it makes me want to run and read their entire backlist. This dark mafia romance was just pure beauty. The alpha mafia king with so much twisted violence and forbidden fantasies. The sassy heroine with equal parts sweetness and fierceness. The chemistry was unbelievable. I felt like the authors set my body on fire and my heart is jacked up with an unlimited supply of adrenaline.
.
Constantine Rogov, the heir to Russian Bratva has been framed for murder of his fiance aka Irish Mafia Princess Roxy. He has been sent to DesMax, the high security prison of Desolation. But he will get out and find who did this to him. And new prison psychologist Clare Nightingale has given him a way. Now she is also daughter of Valencia Nightingale, the DA who is Constantine's first suspect. He has kidnapped Clare while escaping and plans to use her for vengeance. But sweet Clare fills him with a desperate lust and unimaginable possessiveness. And Clare cannot help but fall in love insanely absurdly with this alpha man.
.
Oh this story..where do I even start. The writing is just too good. Crisp. Smart. Addictive. Intense. The story line is fast paced and explosive. So many twists and turns and I couldn't put it down. The characters will make you obsessed instantly and I seriously need more. Told from Dual POV, I loved how Constantine's pov was dark and violent and dangerous. And Clare's was confused and doubtful and slowly showing her growth. Clare may have been brought up in rich and powerful society but she never saw true love as her value was always about social and media interests. Constantine is from a ruthless and merciless world but his attention, his dominance and his passion made her feel so special. Similarly the dead heart in Constantine's chest started beating for his enemy's daughter. Someone who makes his crave something else than this volatile life. The chemistry was HOT HOT HOT! It was mild bdsm flavoured and the dirty talk, filthy fantasies and perverse scenes were just brilliantly executed.

I bet you will be sucked in The Bratva's Heir by Jane Henry and Sophie Lark from page one and won't come up till the last word. Mafia romance at its best.

Constantine is incarcerated for a crime he is adamant he did not commit, the murder of his fiance. Clare enters the picture as a therapist for Constantine in the prison and the sparks ignite, the attraction blatant.
This book contains suspense, hidden agendas, and so much deceit. But it also has romance and some very spicy scenes.
I love Sophie Lark and Jane Henry's writing separately but as a duo they are unbeatable! Their characters explode off the page with either violence or passion, and sometimes both! But always wonderfully entertaining and truly attention grabbing!

It started so good...

The book started good and I got into it quickly, but then it started falling short.
It often felt a bit choppy, like characters teleported from one scene to the next, it felt a bit inconsistent.
One big such example is how someone goes from crawling through a rosebush in great detail to a few sentences later be in a kitchen.
Things like that made it choppy and a bit inconsistent.
I also felt like it sometimes "carried on" a bit too long on some pages, and some content felt like fillers.

I liked Constantine but I never got on with Clare. I don't mind insta love, but she was flighty one moment only to change her mind in less than 2 pages.
She also started out well, but I didn't like her development.

You might now wonder why I still gave this 3 stars...
Well... Because the intimate scenes were very good, at least most, except for one bathroom one, where I actually had no idea exactly what was going on. Lol.

This was exactly what I was in the mood for. A dark mafia romance with action and a brutal main character. I loved that they met in prison, I like these kind of books were he is a prisoner and she works there.
Clare and Constantine have great tension and I liked them together. They‘re like ice and fire and gravitate towards each other. Both are intelligent and their emotional intelligence is on the same level. Constantine fell quick for Clare and I adored how protective he was. We love a possessive and protective man. The „touch her and die“-vibes were on point

ARC Review:

A steamy mafia romance with kink, kidnapping, and betrayal.

I should disclaim that I am not the spice audience for this book - there’s an undoubtedly sexy plot point about submission and obedience that if that’s your kink, you’re going to love this. It’s not my jam. I’m not a sub 😉

It’s the romance in this one that’s right in my lane. Super forbidden? Yep. Society would be aghast? Yep. And yet they are not only attracted to each other but emotionally matched? Sign. Me. Up.

Incarcerated Bratva heir Constantine claims he was framed for the murder he’s serving time for, and he thinks he knows who just not why. Newly minted psychologist Clare wants to prove she’s more than her elite society background and can stand on her own - by doing her residency in the prison. When Constantine learns her secret, she becomes his hostage when he escapes, and his leverage to the truth. Except they both found more in each other than they ever planned. Constantine makes Clare feel like she matters and is a priority; Clare makes him feel like all sides of him are seen - and both of them can be more than their lineage. It’s very, very sexy, builds up to some solid banter, and you can see how hard they fall.

There is so much plot in this book. Kidnapping, framing for murder, conspiracies, betrayal, warring families and broken alliances, drug dealers, police corruption - I couldn’t believe how smoothly so many events fit into one back and still made sense. I’m sure some of these plot points tie into other books in the series, but they don’t feel out of place here. It’s not easy being a crime lord - business is 24/7.

I haven’t read anything by Jane but I’m a loyal Sophie reader and think other Love Larks will enjoy!

“I stole you. And when the Bratva steal something… we don’t give it back. You belong to me now. If you want to eat, you’ll eat from my hand. If you want to drink, you’ll drink from my mouth. You’re going to answer my questions, and you’re going to do what I say. Or you’ll suffer the consequences.”

This one had a really great start but then was just okay for me. Constantine is in the bratva and has been his father’s enforcer since he was 15. After an arranged betrothal to form an alliance between the bratva and Italian mafia ends up in Constantine’s intended being murdered and he’s found with the body, he ends up in prison for the crime. Constantine knows he was set up and is looking for evidence to prove his innocence. The story kicks off with him being assigned a new correctional psychologist, Clare Nightingale. Constantine has a little cat-and-mouse encounter with Clare upon meeting her while she’s both frightened and intrigued in his presence.

During one of their meetings Constantine ends escaping prison, kidnapping Clare, and taking her with him as leverage. Clare has some secrets about her identity that come out during this time and things quickly go from zero to him punishing her/trying to get answers out of her by using “his sexual powers” on her and some toys. While this book does have lots of steam, I just didn’t feel the connection between Constantine and Clare beyond lust and a present body. Clare is also just a little too sheltered and weak for me. I wanted to see her be a strong heroine to stand up to him or stand beside him, where she is more submissive to whatever he says/does.

Constantine & Clare love story is very enemies to lovers, tense and psychological thrill ride!! OH their a muder mystery to solve and the key to solve it just fallen on his lap 😈 The suspense was killing and I had soooo many questions How? WHAT? WHY? WHAT? I was at the edge of my seat and I had a feel tearful moments of NO don't do that...no spoilers 😪
I love the actions scenes so much they are brilliantly written

The prison escape scene has been written brilliantly by Sophie & Jane. I can hear the ticking of each second when Constantine was counting down...no spoilers on how but the scene is 😘

Oh my goodness the steamy scenes are 🥵 I need a bad boy in my life and he knows how to protect the love he loves.

4 stars.
This was hot and dangerous.

There were definite moments where the fire between these two almost scorched me.

But.
I think it could’ve been better honestly.
There were those moments like I said, but things sort of fizzled on the dominating standpoint when Constantine started falling for Clare.

And that happened pretty fast.
We got some power exchange, some degradation, some punishments…but they were brief and passing.
Honestly.
I was kind of expecting, and sort of hoping, for more.

Still.
I thought the plot was enjoyable. Action packed and full of danger and intrigue.

The sex was hot, though like I said, I think it could’ve been hotter.

The relationship was nice though. The sharing of their feelings to each other was a bit anticlimactic but I liked the journey. And the ending wasn’t awful.

It didn’t deliver on everything I wanted it to, but it was an enjoyable read and I’m glad that I picked it up.

I need more Constanine and Clare!

So this is the first Jane Henry book I've read, but I'm a huge Sophie Lark fan, so I knew at least half of this was going to be amazing going in :) But omfg, this book, THIS BOOK! The Bratva's Heir is unlike any mafia book that I have read. Truly unique, which is saying something because I feel like mafia is so easily overdone, yet somehow they knocked this out of the park. I don't even want to give spoilers because IT.IS.THAT.GOOD!!!

I will say this: the heat factor was off the freaking charts with this one! Be prepared to read this in one sitting because you will not want to put it down!

Murder mystery, steamy romance, danger and enemies at every corner...These are the perfect characteristics for a great book and this author duo delivered big time. The Bratva's Heir kept me on the edge of the seat from start to end. It was dark, erotic, dangerous, and thrilling. Just how I like it! There was a lot of chemistry between our protagonists. Clare tried very hard to fight her desire for Constantine, so that made for many tension filled and intense scenes. And the mafia world was very well presented. Overall, if you like your romance dark with a good plot, you can't go wrong with this one.

Constantine Rogov, the Bratva Heir, because his father is the head of the Russian Bratva in Desolation. The crown prince is servicing a twenty-five year sentence for murdering his pregnant fiancée Roxanne Maguire, princess of the Irish Mafia.
Being in the DesMax prison means Constantine must suffer through mandatory therapy and his Correctional Psychologist is Clare "Nightingale" Valencia.

Clare has very controlling parents, thus she became the perfect boring daughter who thinks she is nothing special. She is assigned to evaluate Constantine Rogov, notices his not-guilty-plea. It seems the Heir and the Princess would be in an arranged marriage to form an alliance between the Bratva and Irish Mafia.

But when Constantine breaks out of prison, kidnapping Clare in the process and explains her who is responsible for setting him up, she slowly starts to question her whole life and starts looking for evidence that could either support Constantine claims or proof his guilt.

The Bratva's Heir is told in dual POV's alternating between Clare and Constantine. It is a bit slow to start up, but when things start to go awry all hell breaks loose.
While the ending is predictable, it is still a nice read.

While I have not read anything by Jane Henry (yet), I am a HUGE fan of Sophie Lark! This book definitely did not disappoint! While I haven’t read anything else in the Underworld Kings series, I don’t think I missed anything by not reading the 5 books in the series (I will be going back and reading these!) This is the story of Constantine and Clare. Constantine was accused of murdering his wife Roxy and had been incarcerated in the prison. Roxy was the Princess in the Irish Mafia, while Constantine is the heir to the Russian mafia. This was supposed to be a uniting of the Irish and Russians. Constantine was adamant about not killing his wife and was just biding his time until he could escape. In comes Clare – she is the daughter of the DA who put Constantine in jail, only no one knows this at the time because she is using a different last name. She is a psychologist who believes everyone can be helped. She chose the prison (against her family’s knowledge). Her first patient was Constantine. There is some type of chemistry between Clare and Constantine, even though Clare does not want to admit it.

Plans are made and Constantine’s escape is planned, along with the kidnapping of Clare from the prison. Clare is afraid, but she’s not really afraid. She sees something in Constantine and believes that he will not kill her – regardless of who her father is. Constantine sees something in Clare that he hasn’t found in another woman before. A shy, timid Clare turns into a feisty, gusty woman who looks for the truth as to whether Constantine really killed his wife or if he was set up by her father.

Lots of action, drama, passion, violence, darkness, betrayal, the need to protect, kidnapping, violence, corruption, suspense, dominance, loyalty, torture and punishment. I look forward to reading more from Jane Henry and of course Sophie Lark. This was a great collaboration between the two and I could definitely see a lot of Sophie’s writing. I can’t wait to read Jane Henry to see what styles were hers! I received a free copy of this book via ARC’s and am voluntarily leaving a review.
