The circumstances in which our two leads (Mari & Sinn) come together are surely unusual. But boy, do they both transform beautifully through this relationship. Their story starts when Japanese govt. decide to pass a bill named 'NEET Protection Law' to integrate all the neets living outside the edges of society. H & h are the first test couple, before the complete implementation of the law. Neither of them are aware in the beginning of their names being entered as test subjects nor they have any choice.( Sinn because he could lose his govt job and Mari because her late grandma, who raised her entered her name as the old lady was worried for her.)
This is their heart-warming tale. No real drama or suspense or angst. Lots of side characters and their stories too. While Mari & Sinn's romance is not a typical passionate romance, it feels more like sweet, respectful and gentle consideration of each other. Basically I could actually see this type of relationship lasting through trials of time.
You can tell a country is facing a severe population shortage when so many books are about state sponsored / forced marriage. This is the case here which results in one of my favourite tropes, forced marriage and the resultant getting to know your partner after marriage. I think it's the added crucible that the two characters can't simply walk away if they aren't getting on that adds spice to the story. Despite that rather serious sounding premise, this book couldn't be sweeter. It's a feel good romance from start to finish. It is one of the few books I wanted to start re-reading the moment I finished it. The art is also beautiful: soft glowing watercolours that made me feel like I was at a gallery rather than reading a comic.
The word "Fluff' is the best way to describe this webtoon. It is fluffy and smilies. Zero unwanted drama. Instead, we are given these two individuals who are just trying to fit into each other's world. I can't remember if there was an episode that didn't leave a smile on my face when I read it. It was that cute.
I love the simplicity of Mary Me's story. Less heavy drama and more about the character and their growth. About finding yourself, rekindling your relationship with your family, first love, first crush.
The art style is very unique. It has this texture that as a novice I have no idea what to call it. It is kawaii, soft & pretty.
1000000/5 Highly commanding it This webtoon is by far the best I have read. It is just beautifully written and drawn. I am sad it ended, this is how lovely of a read it was. The idea of it was odd at first, but it was built beautifully as if you were living it with them and it just made perfect sense.
One of the few webtoons that have a wholesome storyline and doesn't screw over the characters. If you're looking for a genuinely feel good story with a happy ending the I strongly recommend reading this!
