Shen Yanbei, who was smashed by a scumbag right after coming out from the closet didn’t expect to open his eyes and found that he was transmigrating.
What? Did he get married just now? Even married a man?
Shen Yanbei quietly looked at the newly married wife. His facial features were as sharp as a knife, rough but handsome! Wide shoulders, narrow waist and hips, masculine, and sexy!
… Such high quality!
Shen Yanbei licked his lips. It seemed that God was still on his side. Got rid of the scumbag and found him a manly wife.
This is one of the few danmei I've read where the shou/bottom is the more physically manly and stronger one between the couple and it's actually endearing to read. I'm so used to reading a couple where the shou is delicate, effeminate or being describe more as a pretty than as handsome or in other situation, both gong and shou are manly, but it's really rare to see the shou being the more visually masculine one. I want more of this dynamic.
This is another ger novel with the common initial set up of farming/business/cooking and the character taking an exam to be a scholar, but this novel take us in a broader world by having a little bit of court politics and war on the side as well, though not as intricately made as the usual historical novels. All of these are there for the relationship development so even with the side plot, it's heavily connected with the romance itself.
Aside from the relationship dynamic, there's nothing really new that would make this stand out among the other ger novels. Still very entertaining to read.
Reading Historical-Fiction about a "calm" farming life in the countryside has become a sort of therapy for me. Of course, the story goes far beyond that, but that was the premise that seduced me.
For note, the previous translator stops at chapter 59. A new translator had taken over but, decided to start from chapter 1. I couldn't wait and so decided to MTL. It was easy enough to follow.
The only thing I disliked about the novel was that it ended. I did not mind reading about their mundane activities such as cooking because both main characters were sweet as honey.
The plot was mostly slice of life, well written by the writer. What I love about it is that there was no psychological barrier between Shen Yanbei, MC, and Gu Changfeng, ML. Yanbei transmigrated and easily adapted to his new life. He accepted that Changfeng was his male wife and vowed to uphold the name of the host's family. Changfeng who lost his memory was also not restricted to accepting that he was married. So, there was no restriction on intimacy. Yanbei, originating from the future, was not shy in describing his feelings. Changfeng also blossomed under Yanbei's guidance.
As the story progressed, Changfeng regained his memory and identity. The story followed a six-ranking upper and lower officialdom system. For example, Yanbei was a 4th lower-rank civil minister and wasn't eligible to attend court. While Changfeng was a 3rd upper-rank military minister who could attend court. This did not dishearten Yanbei. He took it with stride to work even harder. He did not aim for a 3rd upper rank. For him, a 4th upper rank was enough as long as he got to see his wife in court. Please excuse the ranking because it was confusing on my part and I'm just guessing most of it.
