Piper Rayne's Charity Case series is such a great one! You definitely can't go wrong in picking up these books!
Clean Slate:
This really helps to set up what's coming in the rest of the series. It helps to put into perspective just how Victoria goes from working for Jagger in California to moving to the Midwest. Looking forward to the rest!
Manic Monday:
Victoria Clarke has recently relocated to Chicago from California to help her mother who has recently been diagnosed with MS. Not only is Victoria dealing with a move and her mother, our recently divorced heroine is busy settling into a new job, raising her young daughter AND going to school to finish her degree. She's hardworking, independent and strong. When taking her daughter to school one Monday, she runs into an old acquaintance. While she doesn't know Reed well, the one thing she is, is intrigued, not only by his hotness, but also by the fact he drops off one of her daughters best friends every single Monday. But only on Monday. She's got to know the story behind that!
Reed Warner is the Assistant District Attorney in Chicago and he's a man that knows what he wants and is willing to do what it takes to get it. He's patient, driven, handsome and honest. While working on the biggest case that has ever crossed his desk, he ends up running into Victoria in the school drop-off line and he couldn't be happier. While he wants to get to know her better, the baggage she has left behind from her failed marriage, has her skittish to say the least where relationships are concerned.
Are Reed and Victoria destined to be stuck in the friend zone or will they be able to take their relationship to the next level?
I adored this book! The characters were fantastic, the story engaging and the way that Piper and Rayne handled the MS in the book was well done. This was one of those books I just did not want to put down. They also did their job and made me very curious about how Chelsea and Hannah's books are going to play out.
Afternoon Delight:
Chelsea Walsh has had her share of heartbreak in her twenty five years and while she wants love in her life, she's always been attracted to the bad boy type and that is how she got her heart broken. Married at eighteen, she had found the love of her life, but then everything spiraled out of control and it ended in divorce. Lately, she's been on a string of failed dates with more "respectable" men, but they just don't light her fire like bad boys, or maybe it's one particular bad boy - her ex-husband.
When she goes to a meeting with a tax attorney for her job at RISE, the last person Chelsea expects to come face-to-face with is the aforementioned ex-husband, Dean Bennett. The last time she'd seen Dean was the morning she walked out on him. Dean makes it clear that he wants another chance with her and that he never stopped loving her. While it's clear that the chemistry between the two is still alive and well, Chelsea is skeptical as ever that Dean could have changed enough for her to even consider making him a part of her life again. Will Dean be able to convince Chelsea to trust him again and prove that he's bettered himself in the last five years? Or will everything that happened during their short-lived marriage overshadow any chance these two have of a future?
There was so much to love about this book! The characters were so well developed and we learned so much about each of them as the story went along that it wasn't hard to understand where both were coming from. They both have baggage, some of which we don't know about at first, which made the story that much richer because you *knew* there were more proverbial shoes left to drop. These two characters were fighters and not in the literal sense, but they weren't going to back down from what they wanted.
In typical Piper Rayne fashion, the book was witty, sexy, romantic and entertaining.
Happy Hour:
Roarke Baldwin is one of the most sought after divorce attorneys in the city. He's tough, known to be ruthless and always does his best by his clients. The one thing he has going against him at the moment is the fact that he represented the ex-husband of the woman who he would do anything to attract her interest.
Hannah Crowley is just trying to do her job. She's throwing a gala and she needs a venue. The person who offers to come to her rescue is Roarke, the man that always seems to have his eyes on her when she and her friends frequent their favorite private club. Hannah is smart, sexy and extremely gun-shy when it comes to men after her ex cheated on her and made her trust in men tank completely. The sad thing is, she's definitely attracted to Roarke, but she wants nothing to do with him!
When Roarke offers to help her with her venue issue, he in turn asks for five favors. Of course Hannah jumps to the wrong conclusions and she's stunned by the things he's asking her to do. As these two spend more time together, will her opinion of the legal eagle change?
This book was fast-paced, sexy, sassy and one that you just didn't want to put down.
I would highly recommend picking up this gem of a series from Piper Rayne!
