Survey of Hygge

Having read a number of books by this author, this one almost seems like someone else wrote it as there are far fewer errors of grammar and usage than in her other books. Still, not everything is right with the writing. The author discusses some concepts multiple times in different chapters, which seems nonsensical in a book as short as this one, as it is only 30 pages in the PDF copy I received as an advance reviewer. Hygge is a surprisingly complex topic, and I don't think the author addresses what it truly means in general let alone practically. She describes it too simplistically and makes a few false statements. For instance, she states that hygge hit the US in 2017. I don't recall ever hearing about it back in 2017. I didn't hear about it until 2019 and even only then through my favorite book review sites, not as discussed on the national stage. For such a short book, it has six chapters (and 5 pages of front and back matter), so not much time is spent on each topic. The author would have been better to focus very specifically, I think, on the more personal aspects, not expanding out into the business or work realm. So, all in all, while this is better than this author's other books, I would still suggest checking out other hygge books by other writers. My favorite is the book by Olivia Telford, which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07....

I received a free copy of this book, but that (obviously) didn't affect my review.

Worth reading. I bought a book on Hygge for my sister but I never borrowed it. I am glad I read this book, as it has a lot of interesting information. I am not one for a simple, uncluttered living although I strive for it, just never managed it before. The book is well-timed, as tragically we are all stuck inside. Implementing some of the advice in this book is a productive way of spending our isolation. I recommend this book for a somewhat different and interesting concept of a way of life.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good basics of understanding and suggestions. Easy and likable writing style. Not particularly riveting, but still interesting. Had it been any longer I would have lost interest so it was a good short length.

It's interesting

The work section would not work at all for someone in my job position but ok for anyone with a desk job. 🙄 otherwise, a decent quick read
