The brooding Fire Lord of Ashmoor Manor receives an adorable, curvy human as his ward!

I’m getting married today and I’m so freaking depressed.

My bridal gown is exquisite. The ring is enormous. But my groom is evil personified and I’m being forced into this doomed marriage. I’m seconds from breaking into a full-on ugly cry.

And right then, as if by magic, the church doors burst open.

Women scream and children scramble as a huge satanic-looking alien stomps down the aisle, flicking his tail, flashing flames and wreaking chaos in his wake. He’s looking right at me.

“Charlotte Cruz?” the devil questions.

I give a jerky nod, shocked into silence.

The monster grunts in response, sweeps me off my feet and carries me away from the altar.

Whenever I read an entry in this series, I'm torn by feeling that is both very fun with an interesting premise, but overall too repetitive to feel like it really comes together as strongly as I hope it will. This was no different- really loved the ward/guardian element, but I think it would have been strong with about 1/3 of it cut

Messy and repetitive

She’s never been the best writer but I’ve always found her stories to be strangely charming. They were a nice break from the dark romances I normally read.

This one is a huge mess from start to finish. These characters were just weird. One paragraph she’s two months pregnant then a few paragraphs later she’s thinking of her almost wedding one month earlier? It was three month earlier…how do you miss something like that where they’re four paragraphs apart? They also rehash the same info over and over and over again. The characters behave as if they’ve known each other for awhile as well. Like early one the MMC was like ‘I love it when she’s mad’ but it was literally only hours they’ve been together and the whole time she was her perky, teenage idiot self.

It’s frustrating because there’s the bones of a good story here but it’s poorly executed. I don’t remember her other stories being quite so bad but it has been awhile. This will be the last book I borrow from this author.

Why is Charlotte's parentage (or lack thereof) repeated so many times in so few pages? We learn about her Mother, Grandmother, and Grandfather at least three times in 4 pages.

Also, despite Charlotte "being old enough to mate" when she turns 20 a week after the story's beginning (although not coming of age until she turns 21), having her "guardian" lust after her from the moment he sees her is creepy AF! She. Is. His. Ward (and like his second or third cousin by marriage)!

Regardless of my grousing, however, I think I'm addicted to this series. Although each book frustrates me anew with one thing or another, there are also characters and/or scenes that make it all worth it. In this one, the bullies get a comeuppance, and the bullied gets support from an unexpected source. Everything happened quickly but still put a smile on my face.

Besides, I have always been a sucker for HEAs! (Although it is suspiciously hilarious how every human female to visit the planet just happens to be greeted by the Hyrrokin of her dreams! LOL)

This was an ok read. It started pretty good and was promising but kinda tanked as the book went on. Neither the hero or heroine were very likable or did I feel their relationship actually grew or was real. The way they are basically strangers with sexual attraction for months that boils over when she crawls in his bed on a dark and stormy night also the anniversary of the worst day of his life. He’s drunk and they sleep together and really only then does the hero kind of slowly man up. He constantly claims to not wanting another woman aside from just a booty call or having kids, something the heroine is told more than once. Then she gets preggers and it became something of a duty to the hero. Even worse was how I felt he had to be pushed and coerced into opening up to the heroine then claiming her. I dunno, it was just off putting how little growth they actually had as a couple. The heroines basically alone in his home for most of her stay on the planet, he only (sometimes) shares meals with her and maybe they see one another at a few other events in a span months. Her loving him just made no sense to me. Some of the side characters were fun and I’d be interested in their stories if they exist. I also read this as a standalone and can vouch that it works as one.

DNF 22% - I tried with this series and I really wanted to like it because of the plus size rep but it's not for me. It's too instalust/instalove for my tastes and plot in general moves way too fast. If that's not an issue for you, though, they're fun, light reads with a demon looking alien HEA every book.

This.....wasn't very good. The premise was great. But the writing was pretty poor and the characterization was incredibly repetitive. Also, the timeline seemed to constantly be changing. Could definitely benefit from a really good editor. I don't think I will be continuing this series.

OMG I laughed so hard about the way Thane rescued Charlotte from her wedding. I say rescued because she didn't want to go through with that wedding and he just barged in, flaming fire breath and grabbed her. Entertaining read.

The couple: Thayne and Charlotte

Romance genre: alien
Series: Monsters Love Curvy Girls
Length: 214 pages

Plot: Charlotte is about to either marry or call off her wedding (she's still deciding, although leaning toward calling it off) when a giant red Hyrrokin bursts into the church, claims she's his ward, and drags her to his planet. It turns out that her step-grandfather, whom she never met, left her his estate and asked his nephew to be Charlotte's guardian. She's of age by human standards, but just shy of Hyrrokin standards. So Thayne takes her back with him and thus begins their relationship with mutually-assumed unrequited love. That is, until one night when Charlotte seeks comfort from a storm, one thing leads to another, and they have a whole new situation to deal with.

Commentary: I saw a lot of bad reviews for this book, and was a little surprised. This is a fluffy sort of insta-lust story and wasn't meant to be the great American novel. I found it to be fun. There was the expected cultural exchange and misunderstandings between the human and alien characters, and Charlotte's relief to see another human nearby. Charlotte had a skill that she could still practice even though she was no longer on her planet, and people on the estate who would help her. There was the mystery of Thayne's tragedy. There were some consistencies and some repetition. I think that I could certainly wait a little longer for the next book in the series to clear those up, but they didn't stop me from enjoying the heart of the story, which was the developing relationship between the two main characters (although I would like a little less avoiding and a little more interaction).

Previous book in the series: His Human Organizer
Next book in the series: His Human Stalker

Book Name/Series: His Human Ward (Monsters Love Curvy Girls #5)
Author: Michele Mills

DNF at: 43%
Why: I unfortunately couldn’t get through this book for a couple of reasons. First, I found the writing very repetitive, and I didn’t think it flowed very well. Second, I really didn’t like the main characters. The heroine’s personality was all over the place, and the changes in her didn’t seem realistic at all; . She also came to some really odd conclusions at times; . The hero just kept repeating the same things over and over and couldn’t make up his mind and it got a little frustrating.

I’ve enjoyed this series for the most part, but I’m giving this one a 2.5 star. The series is getting too repetitive, and the dialogue in this one was on the more cringy side then cute in my opinion. I think I’ll stop at this book, it just fell short of my expectations and the repetition of each book is getting boring.

This well written Book 5 in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls Series was interesting with well-thought out scenes, characters, and story plots. These characters have strong wills, unique personalities and believable interactions. This entertaining story has the following: intrigue, twists, turns, action, danger, love, steam and a HEA. It is a well-paced book that will keep you enthralled from start to finish. I love this series

I had to read this in one go, couldn't put it down! This series is full of sweet characters, strong females, and alien males who have no clue about the care and feeding of human women. I love who the author crafts characters for each part of the series who fit the story so well, that you end up invested not only in the outcome of the plot, but you really wish these characters were real people because they need to exist somewhere. Thayne carries his pain around like a shroud, and it's sad and heavy, but he finds relief in his connection to Charlotte. Charlotte is one of those eternal optimists, even though her back story is pretty dark and sad, it doesn't hold her back from reaching out to people. I loved the emotional depth of this story. I just wanted to see them happy in the end, and Rebeyca was a twist I didn't see coming, but hope to see more about her in future books. I have been anticipating this book for months, lol, and now I'm mad at myself for reading it so fast and now I have to wait months again for the next one, lol, but it was totally worth the wait!

This one started off pretty weird and until the sit down after the crashed wedding, it felt like things were going in a very strange direction. It felt a little juvenile at times with all the mean girls and the way Thayne almost screwed everything up. Charlotte didn't feel as connected with the human group as the others did, but she's friends with a queen so doesn't really matter. Looking forward to Bane's story.

I thought that this was an ok book. To be honest I was super excited because I really liked how this sounded. The age gap, BBW and a forbidden twist to their relationship are all tropes I'm a big fan of, but in the end, I can't say the end result wowed me. There was a whole lot of potential to this story, however the way certain things unfolded simply didn't work for me. I am volitionally posting a candid review.

This one for me was just ok. I wanted to like it more, I just didn't. I did have a good chuckle at how he thought he was bringing home a child. Only to be shocked that she was almost a grown adult. The will they won't they didn't work for me with this book.

I still liked the narration, on to the last one.

This was another entertaining read for the series and I really enjoyed seeing their romance unfold. It's fast paced, filled with mixed signals, and yet, slides into a great HEA. I also liked the characters for themselves and was happy to see their connection bloom.

Charlotte heart is breaking at the loss of her friendship and loveless relationship the day of her wedding. Little does she know she becomes the human ward of the brooding Fire Lord of Ashmoor Manor.
She is saved as he marches down the aisle and takes her back to his planet. Although she will be twenty years ago in a week she is still considered underage on the Fire Lord’s planet.
Thayne is living in a deep depression and unspeakable pain after lossing his son. He is merely existing prior to meeting the Curvy beauty Charlotte.
This is book five in this series and I have read every one. Each book can be read as a stand-alone with a HEA.

Disappointing

I have read the last 4 books in this series the last week or two and this one makes me disappointed. It is not as well edited as the others and also has a lot of repetitive internal dialogue.
The ML of the story is lackluster and I failed to feel any of the heat or love the first books had. This story was heavy on the angst and I feel like Charlotte deserved better. She was a punching bag for the majority of the book and I severely neglected. The ML needs two, that’s right two, separate “get your head out of your rear” talks literally back-to-back. He neglects his pregnant bound when he knew for months she was pregnant, 3 to be exact, because he felt “guilty”. She suffers morning sickness alone, thinks he doesn’t want her, and never once does he reassure her.
The so-called “love” he feels for her feels forced given his behavior. I found myself skimming the last 20% of the book after he called sleeping with her a mistake (and never apologized!!!!).
I finished the books simply to see if he did anything right and overall, I dislike the ML. The heroine was decent but lost a lot of points given how much of a doormat she was and how she was willing to not have love and to wait until the ML felt something for her. Felt like an emotionally and mentally abusive scenario. I should have realized how bad it was when he left her during the fundraiser to be hurt until she got drunk. There were people threatening to drug her there but he decided not to bring security? Guards? Something?!?
Overall, a very mediocre jumbled and repetitive mess of a story and left me feeling bleh.

1/5⭐️
1/5🌶

Okay, first off I had seen this book series many times on various social media, and at first I was excited! Plus size heroines are still semi-rare, and I love the representation. However, as soon as I read the reviews I knew I should steer clear. This smacked of all the things I loathe about plus size characters in fiction. The fat focus is so damn exhausting, and the “Omg the heroine got nicer clothes that fit! So now every outfit has to be described and look she’s not fat she has ‘curves’!!” narrative just made me slightly sick.

Why did I read this then if I knew it wasn’t going to be for me? Basically I got it free from a giveaway event. I thought “why not?” and I regret it. Beyond the cringy plus size representation, the writing in this was so simple. What’s the opposite of run-on sentences? Cause that. A lot of that. The romance and getting to know each other? Nope. The inner monologues? Exhaustingly long with extremely repetitive thoughts. The smut? Their first time together was a drunken fade to black with no lead up whatsoever. And the only other time after that was so robotic I just skimmed over it honestly. I just didn’t even care at that point.

Overall, even free I don’t want this in my library.

I don't know if this author is for me. I really can't get into how much of a focus she puts on the FMCs weight as I prefer vague references to the MCs size, not making it a major plot point. Curvy, thin, athletic, whatever. I want it to be about romance and the difference between a demon-looking MMC and a human female - not how a specifically size 12 woman deserves love. Too many stereotypes and fat-phobic focus in this to immerse myself in it enjoyably. I guess I was forewarned as the series is called Monsters Love Curvy Girls so size is a big focus throughout.

She's saved from her marriage to her handsome black fiance who proposed to her, in front of his whole family (and it was live-streamed btw), after 1 month of dating. How stupid and naive and lacking in self-esteem do you have to be to marry someone after 1 month and believe it's true love. Especially when this guys family knows she recently came into a large inheritance. And she wasn't suspicious at all to his motives? Not until she overheard his sister's comments? Ugh. The whole premise is ridiculous.

Child Violent Death Warning

When I’m looking for a light fun read, as a break from a long and often tiring day, the last thing I want to come across in what is supposed to be a romance between aliens and humans, is a child death subplot. Not only did a child die, but he was 3, killed by his mother, who was suicidal, in a horrible and unnecessarily traumatizing way, which the author described in vivid gut wrenching detail. Which she then followed immediately after with a drunken, raunchy sex scene, followed by an accidental pregnancy.

I’m done with the series and this writer. Violent Child death and trauma is not what I need in a light fantasy fic read.

I tried.

I tried pushing myself through 3 times, but couldn't get past 60% . I started skimming after 30%. The pair together is very dry. Not much going on in the story line,it just feels like a lot of filler. After they first met, she already wants marriage and children? Disappointing, the other books were much better.
